AI-generated music does not automatically belong to the person who typed the prompt. In the United States, music generated entirely by AI is not copyrightable under the U.S. Copyright Office’s current guidance; prompts alone do not make someone its author. A platform may still give you permission to use a track under its license or plan terms, and human-authored parts of a mixed work may qualify for copyright protection. Those are separate questions: who owns copyright, and what use the service permits.
Copyright Ownership And Permission Are Different
Copyright asks whether a work or part of it is legally protected and who authored that protected material. A service’s license answers what you may do with a generated track under its terms. A commercial-use license can permit uses such as publishing or monetizing a track without making the track copyrightable or transferring copyright ownership to you.

The Copyright Office says that only the human-authored parts of a mixed work may be protected. If you register a work containing more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material, you must disclose that material and describe your human contribution. How To Keep A Clear Record On Your Galaxy
For a personal song, a video soundtrack, or a track you may later publish, keep the creation details together from the start. This browser-friendly workflow avoids assuming that a prompt or a paid plan by itself proves copyright ownership.
- Choose the service and plan, then read its current terms for ownership, permitted use, attribution, downloads, and any limits on commercial publishing.
- Save the prompt, lyrics you wrote, edits you made, generation date, plan details, and the service’s terms or license information for that track. On a Galaxy phone, you can keep these with the downloaded audio in a project folder or note.
- Make your own identifiable creative contributions where appropriate. For example, write or revise lyrics yourself, or make human-created musical or structural changes. Keep drafts or project files that show what you contributed; the amount and nature of human authorship still matter.
- Before using someone’s voice, a cover, or a sample, confirm that you have consent or the necessary rights and check the service’s terms. Do not assume that an AI output or a commercial-use plan clears another person’s voice or source recording.
- Before uploading, confirm that the destination permits the use and complete any required disclosure. For U.S. copyright registration, disclose and describe human contributions when the work contains more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material.
What To Check Before Publishing
A service license does not guarantee that a distributor, video platform, or copyright office will treat a track as exclusively yours. For video, YouTube requires disclosure when realistic altered or synthetic content could be mistaken for a real person’s performance. Spotify says vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist has authorized it, and it supports AI disclosures in credits. It also announced an AI Persona badge for identities that may be AI-generated. Use “ownership” carefully: a service may say a track belongs to you, retain ownership while granting you a license, or grant commercial-use rights without making a claim about copyrightability. For a Galaxy user, the reliable next step is to save the applicable terms and your own creative records when you generate the track, then verify the planned use against the service and publishing platform rules.
