Fair Pay For Artists In AI Music: What Galaxy Users Should Check

Fair pay in AI music can mean artist payments for model training, revenue sharing from a catalogue, or royalties retained by the person using generated tracks. Here’s what three services state and what Galaxy users should verify before creating or releasing music.

Fair pay for artists in AI music depends on what the service actually pays for: music used to train models, streams of artists’ tracks, or the rights to use generated music. These are different arrangements. For a Galaxy user choosing or publishing AI-assisted music, check which one applies, whose work is involved, and what the service’s terms say before you subscribe, distribute, or monetize a track.

What Fair Pay Means In AI Music

There is no single payment rule that makes AI music fair to every artist. A service might share revenue with artists in its catalogue, pay artists when models train on their music, or generate tracks from material it says its own producers created. Those approaches address different parts of the music economy; one does not prove that every artist whose work could be relevant is paid.

For a specific track, ask: Was a human artist’s music used to train the model? Does the service say how that artist is compensated? Who owns or can use the output, and what does the licence cover? If the available information does not answer those questions, check the provider’s current terms before relying on the track commercially.

How Three Services Describe Artist Compensation

Service What It Says About Artists Stated Price Or Limit What To Check
LANDR Distribution Its Fair Trade AI offer says artists can earn monthly when AI models train on their music, opt in or out anytime, and keep 100% of their earnings. It also offers royalty splits that can be set once so collaborators are paid automatically on every payout. From $2 per month. Check how eligibility, training use, earnings and opting out work for your account and recordings.
Audiimax It says 35% of revenue is shared with participating independent artists and describes members as receiving 35% royalties on their music. £14.99 per month per location; 14-day free trial. Confirm which catalogue, membership and royalty terms apply. Its stated operating markets are the UK, USA, Australia, UAE, Italy and Singapore.
SOUNDRAW It says its AI is trained only on music created in-house by its producers, not scraped songs. It says users keep 100% of royalties for life. 20 monthly track downloads. Its stated sourcing and royalty claims do not establish payments to outside artists whose music was not used. Check the current licence and terms for your intended use.

The services describe different models, so the figures are not directly comparable. LANDR describes payments tied to training on an artist’s music; Audiimax describes sharing revenue with participating artists; SOUNDRAW describes in-house training material and royalty retention for users. None of these statements alone establishes the amount any individual artist will receive.

Choose A Workflow That Makes The Payment Path Clear

If You Want To Release Your Own Music

Keep your original recording, lyrics, arrangement notes and collaborator agreements together. If you use LANDR Distribution, review its Fair Trade AI opt-in and opt-out terms and set any royalty splits with collaborators before payouts. Its page says it offers distribution from $2 per month; verify current account terms and eligibility directly with LANDR.

If You Need Licensed Music For A Location

Audiimax says that when you play only its catalogue, your subscription includes the commercial music licence for that catalogue, so no separate music licence is required. Its stated price is £14.99 per month per location, with a 14-day free trial. Confirm that your location is covered, that the catalogue suits the use, and that playing only that catalogue fits your setup.

If You Generate A Track

SOUNDRAW says its producers write and record the music used to train its AI, and lists 20 monthly track downloads. Its site also says users can download MP3, WAV and stems and distribute and monetize songs. Before release, check the current licence for your exact project and destination; these statements do not describe a payment to outside artists for training material.

Make The Track And Its Credits More Transparent

On your Galaxy, keep a simple record as you work: which service you used, what material you supplied, what you wrote or performed yourself, who gave permission, and which licence or account terms you relied on. A short prompt can make your creative intent clear without implying that a real artist consented to an imitation. For example: “Create a restrained instrumental bed for a product video, with a steady pulse and no vocals; use no named artist’s voice or recognizable song.” This is a workflow example, not a claim that any listed service supports a particular prompt control or musical style.

If you add your own melody, lyrics, performance or arrangement, save those contributions separately. The U.S. Copyright Office says entirely AI-generated works are not copyrightable, prompts alone do not make someone the author, and only human-authored parts of a mixed work may be protected. For a registration application containing more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material, applicants must disclose that material and describe the human author’s contribution. Read the Copyright Office’s AI report information for the applicable details.

For uploads, identify AI involvement accurately in credits where the destination supports it. Spotify announced support for DDEX AI disclosures in credits and said vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist has authorized it. It later announced an “AI Persona” badge for artist identities that may be AI-generated rather than a real person. YouTube requires a label for realistic altered or synthetic content that could be mistaken for a real person’s performance. Check each destination’s current submission and disclosure rules before publishing.

Consent And Platform Rules Still Matter

Do not assume that an AI tool’s output grants consent to imitate a singer, use a collaborator’s voice, or include a sample. Get permission from the relevant people for voices and source material, and check the AI service’s terms and the destination platform’s rules. YouTube’s inauthentic-content policy targets mass-produced, repetitive or template-based uploads; its stated concern is not AI use by itself. A distinctive prompt or a disclosure does not by itself settle whether a particular upload meets a platform’s requirements.

Prices, eligibility, catalogue coverage, licences and platform rules can change. The facts available here do not establish support for a particular Galaxy app, music genre, prompt control, language, or every commercial use. Check the service and destination terms for those specifics before committing money or releasing work.
