Overview

Hadeda is a utility billing platform for managers of multi-unit properties. It is best suited to South African operators billing residents for water, and its main appeal is bringing meter data, statements and collections into a shared workflow. Buyers needing live electricity, gas or prepaid billing should look elsewhere for now.

Its manager portal handles tenants, meters, tariffs, bills and payments, while the resident app provides meter data, a combined rent-and-utilities statement and in-app payment. Hadeda Pay says it was founded in 2018 in Tamboerskloof, Cape Town.

Key features

Resident billing and collection

Postpaid billing is live, with tenants paying monthly on the 1st; residents can also pay in the app, and online collections are supported. A single statement for rent and utilities makes charges easier to review in one place, though prepaid billing is still rolling out. The product therefore fits operators ready to bill after use, not those whose workflow depends on prepaid service today.

Submetering and meter coverage

Hadeda uses submetering to allocate utility consumption across units. It supports ultrasonic, smart-mechanical and electromagnetic meters for domestic, zonal and bulk applications, and its current fleet includes Kamstrup and Axioma ultrasonic meters. That range gives property operators options for different metering setups; the live utility scope, however, is water only, with electricity and gas still rolling out.

Leak monitoring and reports

The platform checks meter data for leak patterns and can send alerts, while remote shutoff is possible when smart valves are installed. Residents can also receive bill-increase warnings and unusual-usage flags, and view charts spanning hourly through yearly usage. These tools can help surface problems earlier, but a remote shutoff depends on compatible smart valves rather than the software alone.

Monthly reports bring together readings, usage, charges, meter health and bulk-versus-unit totals, with Excel and CSV export. This gives managers a way to review consumption and move figures into other workflows without relying only on the portal.

Connectivity, integrations and reliability

Hadeda supports Sigfox, LoRaWAN and fixed-radio deployments, and offers third-party API integration with property systems. The breadth of connectivity is useful where buildings have differing network arrangements, while API integration can link billing to wider property operations.

Meter transmissions, connectivity and third-party systems can be interrupted, delaying or correcting readings. Managers should account for that possibility when planning billing timelines. Hadeda says it uses Firebase Authentication and Google Cloud, aligns its privacy policy with POPIA, and may store data outside South Africa; users may request access, correction or deletion of personal information by email.

Pricing

Hadeda is paid software with custom pricing. The price is on request, so prospective customers should seek a quote before comparing its cost with alternatives. No public plan tiers, seat limits, usage quotas, trial terms or renewal terms are stated.

Platforms

Hadeda is available on Android, iOS and the web, covering resident mobile access and browser-based property management.

Who it's for

Hadeda is aimed at South African estates, body corporates, property managers, owners and municipalities, and it supports commercial properties. It is a strong fit for teams managing multi-unit buildings that need water submetering, postpaid resident billing and online collection in one system. It is a weaker fit for buyers who need prepaid billing or live electricity and gas metering now.

Pros and cons

Pros

Connected resident billing: Meter data, a combined rent-and-utilities statement and in-app payment bring key resident tasks together.
Useful monitoring and exports: Leak alerts, usage warnings, meter-health reporting and Excel or CSV export support operational follow-up.
Flexible meter and network support: Multiple meter types and Sigfox, LoRaWAN and fixed-radio deployments can accommodate varied property setups.

Cons

Current utility scope is limited: Water is live, while electricity and gas are rolling out.
Prepaid is not live: The current billing model is postpaid, with payment due monthly on the 1st.
Readings can be disrupted: Transmission, connectivity or third-party interruptions may delay or change readings.
Data may be stored abroad: Hadeda says data may be held outside South Africa, a consideration for organizations with location requirements.

Alternatives

Compare property management utility billing software if you want to survey the category before choosing a product.

MyVoltage Utility Management Platform is another paid option available on Android, iOS and the web; consider it if you want to compare a similarly broad platform footprint.

Genea Submeter Billing is also paid and runs on Android, iOS and the web. Its Submeter Billing plan uses custom pricing, offers a demo and quote, and advertises no setup fees with the first invoice on the company. It may suit buyers who value those stated onboarding terms.

Smarty Utility Management offers paid Android, iOS and web access. Its Rent-to-Own plan is positioned for phased rollouts with ownership after 36 months and a lower upfront barrier; Monthly Rental is described as requiring no capital outlay with evergreen terms. These models are worth comparing if financing structure is a priority.

Zego Utility is a paid Android, iOS and web option. Its Utility Expense Management plan is aimed at multifamily utility accounts payable, auditing and cost recovery, with pricing on request; choose it when those expense-management tasks matter more than Hadeda's stated resident meter and billing workflow.

Ayillo Tenant Screening is a paid Android, iOS and web service with a free trial and a Core workspace plan at 49.00 USD per month, billed monthly per workspace and including the first 5 units. Consider it if tenant screening is the need rather than utility billing.

Chirp Utilities is freemium and available through API and web. Its free Core platform includes unlimited properties and team members, with the first 10 units per module free; choose it if those access and initial-unit terms suit your rollout.

MRI Property Management X is a paid API, web and Windows option with no public price and a demo request; it is an alternative to evaluate if those platforms fit your operation.

ResidentIQ Utility Billing is a paid web option to consider alongside Hadeda.

Verdict

Hadeda is a sound candidate for South African property operators who need water submetering, postpaid resident statements and online collection joined to meter monitoring. Its combined resident and manager workflows are the main reason to choose it; the live offering's water-only, postpaid scope is the main reason to look elsewhere if electricity, gas or prepaid billing is essential now.
