What it is

Shelf is an open-source platform for organizations to keep track of their assets, locations, and custody. Its tools cover bookings, audits, location tracking, asset pages, kits, consumables, calendars, dashboards, search, reminders, and workspaces. The free Shelf Companion app for iPhone and Android scans QR codes, supports audits and custody management, and handles booking check-ins and check-outs. Shelf’s web app can be installed as a progressive web app on mobile and desktop platforms. Organizations can use the managed cloud or self-host with Docker and Supabase. All plans include unlimited assets. Personal is free and allows one user and three custom fields; Plus is $34 a month, and Team is $67 a month. Enterprise pricing is custom. Shelf lists SAML 2.0 integrations and automatic SCIM provisioning. It says data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.3 and at rest with AES-256, with role-based and organization-level access controls. Its managed cloud stores data in Frankfurt, Germany, with application servers in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Shelf says it is not yet SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certified.
