AccelByte PlaytestHub
What it is
AccelByte PlaytestHub is an open-source, self-hosted application for managing closed game playtests from player applications through feedback. Players apply for a place, accept an NDA, receive a game code or download, play, and submit a survey. Studios can distribute Steam keys, AGS Campaign redemption codes, or ADT build download URLs. Players sign in through Discord using AGS IAM’s platform-token grant, which supplies an AGS user identity to the backend. Studios can curate signups, manage code pools, review structured feedback, and send announcements through the AGS Admin Portal. Surveys support versioned text, 1–5 rating, and multiple-choice questions. Playtest windows can open and close on schedules, and a configured number of initial signups can be approved automatically. The backend runs as an AGS Extend Service Extension, while the player frontend is a static bundle. The free MIT-licensed project requires AccelByte Gaming Services (AGS) Extend. Its hosted admin UI is currently available only for Internal Shared Cloud.
For and against
For
- Open-source and MIT-licensed.
- Supports several game-code and build-delivery options.
- Surveys offer three question types.
- Playtest windows and initial approvals can be automated.
- Admin changes are recorded in an audit log.
Against
- Requires AccelByte Gaming Services Extend.
- Hosted admin UI is limited to Internal Shared Cloud.
- Discord and Steam identities may differ without an identity bridge.
The verdict
PlaytestHub covers signups, NDA acceptance, distribution, and survey feedback in a self-hosted workflow. It is most relevant to studios already using AGS, with the hosted-admin availability and identity caveat worth checking.
Who it suits
PlaytestHub is aimed at indie and mid-size studios already using AGS that want to own and self-host playtest tools. It suits teams distributing builds or codes and collecting structured survey feedback.
