Best choice for a Samsung Galaxy user seeking a sad chord progression generator: start with Faso if you want an Android app that turns a mood description into chord ideas and lets you rewrite or extend sections. Keep Jamprovise as the browser based alternative when you want a live, MIDI like backing sequence for improvisation. Both can respond to a sad brief, but they serve different jobs: Faso is the stronger phone first writing workspace, while Jamprovise is centered on practice and educational jamming.
Ranked Sad Chord Progression Generators
| Rank | Tool | Best Fit For | Samsung Galaxy Route | Key Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Faso | Writing and revising a sad song section | Android app on Google Play | AI Companion suggests progressions from a mood or genre and can rewrite or extend sections |
| 2 | Jamprovise | Practising over a dynamically generated sad progression | Use its browser experience; device support is not stated | Music Theory AI creates prompt tailored progressions; sequences render live in the browser via Tone.js |
What A Sad Progression Needs
“Sad” is not one fixed chord recipe. A convincing result usually depends on the emotional shade you describe: quiet grief, unresolved longing, late night loneliness, tender regret or a gradual move toward hope. Your prompt should also identify the musical job of the progression. A verse may need space for a restrained vocal, a chorus may need a wider emotional lift, and an instrumental loop may need a clear cycle for improvisation.

You can ask for minor tonality, suspended color, a descending bass feel, a final chord that avoids full resolution or a turn from darkness toward release. These are creative instructions for the generator; neither listing establishes a particular preset, genre library, tempo control or instrument palette, so check the product interface for those options.
1. Faso: Best Android Starting Point For Writing
Faso ranks first for Galaxy owners because its verified listing specifically includes iPhone and Android availability through the App Store and Google Play. Its AI Companion works as a chord progression generator: describe a mood or genre, receive suggested progressions, then ask it to rewrite or extend any section. That sequence matches a sad-song workflow, where the first idea often needs more tension in the pre-chorus or a gentler landing in the verse.

How To Prompt Faso For Sad Chords
Start with a compact musical brief such as: “Create a melancholic minor-key verse progression for a slow vocal, with a repeating four-chord cycle and an unresolved ending.” Once the first section exists, request a targeted revision: “Keep the sadness, make the second chord more unexpected, and extend the final two bars into a pre-chorus.” You can also ask for a contrast: “Rewrite the chorus so it feels hopeful without losing the reflective mood.” These examples describe desired outcomes; the supplied facts do not promise that every named control or musical result is available, so inspect the generated output and the controls Faso presents.
Where Faso Fits After The Idea
Faso states that you can arrange multi-track sessions, layer vocals and MIDI, and export to Ableton, Logic or GarageBand when ready. That makes it suitable when your sad progression is becoming a complete arrangement rather than a one-off loop. The source also says to download free and start writing from chords; it does not state a paid price, a usage quota or a commercial license. Check Faso’s current terms before releasing music or sharing exported material.

2. Jamprovise: Best For Sad Practice Backing
Jamprovise is designed for instantly generating dynamic chord progressions and custom backing tracks for improvisation. Its Music Theory AI takes a mood or style description and builds harmonically rich progressions tailored to the prompt. The output is described as fully dynamic sequences akin to MIDI, rendered live in the browser through Tone.js. For a Galaxy user, that means the practical first step is opening the site in a mobile browser; Android app availability is not stated.
How To Use Jamprovise With A Sad Brief
Describe the emotional target and the practice task together: “Build a slow, sorrowful progression with room for a minor pentatonic improvisation; keep the harmony moving but leave a clear point of tension before the loop returns.” For a more focused exercise, ask for “a restrained, reflective backing track that gradually increases harmonic tension over one cycle.” These prompts ask for musical behavior rather than a named preset. Jamprovise’s verified facts do not establish specific keys, tempos, instruments or genre buttons, so confirm what the live browser session actually lets you set.

Important Jamprovise Limitation
Jamprovise says it is strictly designed as a practice and educational tool. Treat the generated progression as a way to practise, improvise and study harmony. The site says “Start Jamming for Free,” but no broader plan limits, export rights or commercial-use permission are stated in the supplied facts. If you intend to record, distribute or monetize material developed from a session, read Jamprovise’s current terms first.
Galaxy Workflow For A More Useful Sad Result
- Write the emotion before the genre. Choose one clear feeling, such as quiet grief or hopeful regret, instead of asking for every kind of sadness at once.
- Set the section’s job. Say whether the progression is for a verse, pre-chorus, chorus, loop or improvisation practice.
- Specify tension and resolution. Ask for an unresolved ending, a gradual lift or a return that feels heavier, depending on the song’s story.
- Generate one idea, then revise one variable. Change the ending, bass motion or emotional intensity in a follow-up request so you can hear what caused the difference.
- Save the version you can explain. Keep the progression whose emotional movement you understand, then add melody or accompaniment around it.
Prompt Examples You Can Paste
- Minimal verse: “Give me a sparse, intimate sad progression for a verse, with gentle tension and an ending that does not fully resolve.”
- Longing pre-chorus: “Extend this reflective minor progression into a pre-chorus that increases urgency without becoming triumphant.”
- Hopeful chorus: “Rewrite the chorus so the harmony opens emotionally, while keeping the underlying feeling of regret.”
- Improvisation practice: “Create a dynamic, melancholic backing progression with a clear cycle and space for melodic improvisation.”
Rights, Consent And Release Checks
The supplied product information does not grant a blanket commercial license for either generator. Faso mentions layered vocals and MIDI plus exports to Ableton, Logic and GarageBand; Jamprovise describes a practice and educational purpose. Obtain consent for any vocal performance you add, use only samples you are allowed to use, and read each platform’s current terms before releasing a song, cover or recording that incorporates generated material.
