Overview

Recombee is a recommendation and personalized-search platform for businesses shaping discovery across digital products. It suits teams that can connect user activity and catalog data to a recommendation workflow; its blend of real-time recommendations, semantic search, and business-rule controls is its strongest case.

Its reach across commerce, media, travel, recruitment, and other catalog-driven industries makes the product broadly applicable, but the volume-based plan thresholds deserve close attention. A small operation can start free; a growing service may need to move quickly from the entry tier to substantially higher monthly pricing.

Key features

Recommendations adapt to user interactions and content changes, a practical fit for catalogs where relevance shifts as people browse or inventory and content change. Personalized semantic search extends that approach to discovery beyond recommendation placements. Behavioral triggers, dynamic content, product recommendations, real-time personalization, and omnichannel support round out the listed capabilities.

Scenario settings, filters, boosters, constraints, and ReQL give teams several ways to tune results and apply business rules. That flexibility is useful when default recommendations are not enough, but it also favors teams prepared to define and maintain their own logic. The Admin UI adds customizable reports and insights about interactions with recommendations and the platform.

Integration options include a REST API, SDK clients in multiple programming languages, catalog feeds, and no-code widgets. Official plugins are available for Keboola and Segment; community plugins cover WordPress, Drupal, Laravel, Kentico, Kentico Kontent, and n8n. That mix offers different paths into a stack, though the community plugins are not the same as official integrations.

Recombee says it handles over 30,000 recommendations per second, catalogs with tens of millions of items, and more than a billion recommendations per day. It also says it serves over 10,000 sites and apps worldwide. Those scale claims make the platform relevant beyond small catalogs, while plan quotas—not headline capacity—remain the practical limit to check for a specific workload.

Pricing

The free tier costs 0.00 USD per free, billed Forever, with fewer than 100,000 interactions and recommendation requests per month, fewer than 20,000 active users per month, and fewer than 20,000 catalog items. It is a sensible starting point for a pilot or modest service, but the strict caps leave little room for growth. The pricing page offers an unlimited 30-day trial, after which customers can upgrade or continue on the free plan.

Standard starts at 99.00 USD per month, billed Starting at /mo. It raises the ceilings to 100,000 interactions and requests per month, 20,000 active users per month, and 20,000 catalog items. This is the entry paid option for a service that has outgrown the free caps, but its quotas remain bounded.

Pro starts at 1699.00 USD per month, billed Starting at /mo, and includes 5,000,000 monthly interactions and recommendation requests, 1,000,000 active users per month, and 1,000,000 catalog items. It targets substantially larger services; the jump in price from Standard makes volume forecasting important.

Premium starts at 4499.00 USD per month, billed Starting at /mo. Its thresholds are at least 20,000,000 monthly interactions and recommendation requests, at least 4,000,000 active users per month, and at least 4,000,000 catalog items. This tier is aimed at very high-volume deployments, not teams paying for headroom they will not use. Plan features also include support tiers and may cover mail, availability guarantees, an account manager, video calls, a Slack channel, integration support, and data science support.

Platforms

Recombee supports Android, iOS, web, and API access. The API, SDKs, feeds, and widgets give teams several implementation routes across those platforms.

Who it's for

Recombee is a strong fit for businesses with sizable or changing catalogs that want recommendations and search shaped by live behavior and explicit business rules. Its named industries include video, e-commerce, news and media, deal aggregators, music and podcasts, sports and live events, real estate, marketplaces, travel, and recruitment. Teams should assess their event, user, request, and item volumes before choosing a tier.

Privacy-conscious buyers may value the company's stated safeguards: pseudonymized customer data, physical and software server protections, routine penetration tests, monitored and logged database access, and processing servers in the EU. These statements describe its approach, while buyers with specific compliance requirements will need to determine whether it meets them.

Pros and cons

Pros: Recommendations respond to user activity and content updates, supporting timely discovery in changing catalogs.
Pros: Semantic search and recommendation controls sit in the same product, with ReQL and filtering tools for business-specific rules.
Pros: A permanent free tier and unlimited 30-day trial provide room to evaluate usage before committing to a paid tier.
Cons: Free and Standard quotas cap interactions, requests, active users, and catalog size, so growth can force a plan reassessment.
Cons: Pro starts at 1699.00 USD per month and Premium at 4499.00 USD per month, a substantial step up for workloads that exceed Standard.
Cons: The breadth of controls is most useful to teams able to define recommendation rules and connect catalog and interaction data.

Alternatives

Personyze is worth comparing for teams seeking a freemium personalization tool: its free plan includes 5k pageviews, 1 domain, 3 active campaigns, and 8 AI tasks a month, with email support.

LimeSpot may suit a smaller online store looking at an order-based entry price: its LimeSpot Turbo plan is 19.99 USD per month for up to 250 orders per 30 days from the Online Store channel, though it is unavailable to Shopify Plus stores.

Bloomreach Content is a paid alternative for teams considering a web, iOS, and Android product.

Salesforce Personalization is another paid option; its Salesforce Personalization plan is 8000.00 USD per month, billed annually, with 50M personalization credits.

Dynamic Yield, Constructor, and Nosto are other paid alternatives. Wiser AI offers a freemium option, including a free tier for up to 50 orders.

Verdict

Choose Recombee if your business needs configurable, real-time recommendations and personalized search across a substantial or fast-changing catalog, and can manage the data and rules that make those capabilities useful. Its combination of control, integration routes, and a free starting point is persuasive; look elsewhere if your forecast exceeds Standard but cannot justify the steep jump to Pro, or if you need a simpler fit for a smaller store.
