Overview

ImageColorizer is a photo service for adding color to black-and-white images and repairing, restoring, and retouching older photos. It suits people working with family pictures, historical images, or scanned portraits who need several kinds of correction in one place. Its broad toolkit is balanced by monthly credit limits and upload constraints on paid accounts.

Key features

Colorization: AI colorization adds tones to subjects and surroundings, including skin, clothing, and scenery. That makes it useful for bringing old monochrome photos into a shareable or archival collection, though the monthly credits limit how many images regular users can process.
Restoration and repair: Restoration aims to improve contrast, clarity, and facial detail in faded or blurry photos. Separate repair tools reduce scratches, tears, stains, creases, water spots, and other visible damage, making the service more useful for worn prints than a colorizer alone.
Portrait retouching: Tools can improve facial clarity, reduce noise, and smooth minor imperfections while retaining a natural appearance. That is a focused aid for scanned portraits, not a claim to broader photo-editing controls.
Batch processing: Paid plans include legacy batch processing as well as single processing. Batch work can help with a group of photos, but processing or downloading an image costs a credit, and downloading it again costs another.
Formats and file handling: JPG, PNG, and WEBP are supported. Paid users should keep photos under 100MB and 4000px on one side; larger images may need resizing or compression before upload.
Privacy and payment: Uploaded source images and cloud-generated results are automatically deleted within two hours. The service says it uses encrypted transmission and access controls, without offline-model processing or history-based file retention. Payments go through Paddle; ImageColorizer says it does not store card details and uses 256-bit SSL encryption.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and provides 50 credits per month, single processing, all AI features, and ads. It is a reasonable way to try occasional edits, but the small allowance and ads make it a poor fit for a sizable photo archive.

Starter costs 6.90 USD per month, billed monthly, for 500 credits per month, priority support, single processing, legacy batch processing, all AI features, and no ads. Premium costs 9.90 USD per month, billed monthly, and raises the allowance to 1000 credits with the same listed features. Starter suits modest recurring work; Premium is the more practical step for users who expect to process or download more images. Subscription credits can roll over to the next month, which softens the risk of unused allowance.

Business costs 19.90 USD per month, billed monthly, and includes unlimited access to the V2 model, priority support, single processing, legacy batch processing, all AI features, and no ads. Its appeal is V2 access rather than a stated monthly credit quota; it makes sense for users who need that model access, while the lower tiers have explicit credit allowances. There is no free trial.

Platforms

ImageColorizer is available on the web and desktop, with Windows and Mac support. Its Colorize app is also offered for iOS, iPad, Mac, and Android, so users can choose between browser, computer, and mobile workflows.

Who it's for

ImageColorizer is a good fit for people restoring family photos, historical images, or scanned portraits who want colorization, damage repair, and portrait cleanup together. Its free tier can suit occasional edits; regular users should compare their expected image volume with the credit costs and paid allowances. It is less suitable for very large originals that cannot be reduced to the recommended upload dimensions, or for users seeking offline processing.

Pros and cons

Pro: Colorization, restoration, damage repair, and portrait retouching share one service, which is useful when an old photo needs more than one kind of correction.
Pro: Paid plans include batch processing, and subscription credits can roll over, helping users manage recurring work.
Pro: Cloud images are automatically deleted within two hours, and the service describes encrypted transmission and access controls.
Con: Free use is capped at 50 credits per month and includes ads, limiting its usefulness for larger collections.
Con: Repeated downloads consume credits, so users who need multiple copies should account for that against their allowance.
Con: Paid uploads should stay below 100MB and 4000px on one side, which can require resizing larger photos.

Alternatives

AI Image Restoration Software is another category route when restoring images is the priority.

PicWish Photo Colorizer is worth considering if free bulk colorization is the priority: its online plan says it can colorize and download photos free and bulk edit up to 30 images. snapnedit AI Photo Colorizer may fit users who want browser-based access to 14 AI tools without an account or watermark; its free plan is listed as free forever.

Colorize by Photomyne suits mobile-only users who want a limited free number of colorizations and a yearly membership option. MyHeritage In Color is an option for users who want to start with up to 10 free photos and consider unlimited colorization in its Complete plan.

HitPaw AI Image Colorizer is another option for readers comparing a paid service with a free plan and trial. Topaz Labs Photo Colorizer may suit users who do not need a free plan and want unlimited image rendering on its web image plan, with a 32 MP export limit. Colorize Images and RetroFix are additional alternatives to consider.

Verdict

Choose ImageColorizer if you need one service for colorizing, restoring, repairing, and retouching old photos, especially when paid batch processing will save work across a collection. Look elsewhere if your volume exceeds the credit allowances, your originals exceed its upload guidance, or you need offline processing.
