Overview

Put a date or time before FollowUpThen’s email address in a message to schedule a reminder. It recognizes thousands of formats, including intervals, specific dates and recurring reminders. That keeps scheduling close to the conversation, but makes it less suited to people who want a broad task or project workspace.

Use BCC for a reminder that stays private to its sender, or CC to send a due follow-up to everyone in the message’s To field. Upcoming follow-ups can be managed in a web app, by emailing pending@followupthen.com, or through a daily agenda. Basic email reminders require no inbox connection, a useful boundary for people wary of granting email access.

Key features

Listed add-ons include response detection, SMS notifications, recurring reminders, persistent tasks and automatic cancellation when a reply arrives. The product also lists Zapier, which it says connects to 4000+ other apps, and Google Calendar features for managing follow-ups. These options can extend an email-centered workflow, but the add-ons make the cost and plan choice important for users who need more than basic reminders.

The help page says reminder message bodies are stored with 128-bit encryption and automatically deleted between four weeks and six months after a follow-up is sent. Privacy mode deletes message bodies and attachments when a reminder is scheduled, while retaining the subject and headers for threading. For support, debugging and system operations, email headers and subjects are saved in an unencrypted searchable format. The company says it undergoes an annual security audit by a Google-approved third-party firm using manual and automated penetration testing. Users can delete their account and export follow-ups as a portable CSV; a data processing agreement for EU customer data is available on request.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and allows 50 active followups per month, free forever. It suits light personal use, but the cap can constrain anyone maintaining a larger queue.

The Base Plan costs 5.00 USD per month, billed $5/mo (monthly). It includes basic functionality, attachments, calendar integration, tasks, cancellation and recurring followups. It is the straightforward paid choice for users who need those capabilities, though it does not remove the need to choose specific optional add-ons.

Skills offers optional à la carte add-ons, with examples including response detection, SMS and calendar integration. Its terms say billed $2~20/mo, with custom pricing. That structure may suit people who need selected extras, but is less predictable than a single fixed plan.

A 14-day trial is offered. The published pricing note also says paid plans start at $4/mo; the Base Plan is priced separately at 5.00 USD per month.

Platforms

FollowUpThen is available on Android, iOS and the web. The company says its email-address-based service works on phones, PCs, tablets and other devices, so the reminder workflow is not tied to one device type.

Who it's for

Choose it if you want to schedule personal nudges or shared email follow-ups without connecting an inbox, and value BCC privacy, a daily agenda or a simple email-driven queue. It is less compelling for people who need a full sales engagement system or want message content deleted immediately by default: privacy mode offers that deletion for bodies and attachments, but subjects and headers remain, and searchable headers and subjects are retained for operations.

Pros and cons

Pro: Dates and times in an email address can schedule one-off or recurring reminders without an inbox connection, keeping the basic workflow close to the message.
Pro: BCC and CC support private reminders and reminders sent to everyone in the To field, respectively.
Pro: Follow-ups can be managed in a web app, by email or through a daily agenda.
Con: The free plan is capped at 50 active followups per month, which can be restrictive for a busy queue.
Con: Privacy mode retains subjects and headers, and the service saves headers and subjects in unencrypted searchable form for operational purposes.
Con: Optional add-ons are priced à la carte, so the cost depends on which capabilities a user needs.

Alternatives

Email Scheduling Software and Sales Follow-Up Software offer broader category comparisons for readers still deciding what kind of tool fits.

Pick Boomerang if you want a free Gmail or Google Workspace option with 10 message credits per month, or its paid Personal plan at 4.98 USD per month billed annually. Pick Instantly if a paid tool with a Growth plan at 47.00 USD per month billed monthly and a database of 450M+ B2B leads better fits your needs. Saleshandy is another paid option, with its Starter plan at 34.00 USD per month billed annually at $408/year, or $41/mo if paid monthly.

Hunter, Mailmeteor, Mixmax, Right Inbox and Scurry are also alternatives.

Verdict

FollowUpThen is a sensible choice for email-first users who want to schedule private or shared reminders without connecting an inbox. Its narrow, low-friction workflow is the main reason to choose it; the free-plan cap and retained searchable email metadata are the main reasons to look elsewhere.
