Overview

Checkvist lets lists grow through unlimited hierarchy, then offers focus and hoist, expand-to-level, search, and filtering to navigate them. Options to hide completed items and future tasks help keep attention on current work. This structure rewards users who naturally decompose plans into nested items; those who need a more prescriptive project workflow may prefer another format.

The editor combines keyboard shortcuts with Markdown, code, tables, bulk operations, sorting, and backlinks. Lists support real-time collaboration and can be shared with read or write access, password protection, expiration times, and task assignment. OPML, plain text, Markdown, and rich-text exports make it possible to move outline content elsewhere.

Key features

Tasks can hold tags, due dates, notes, priorities, assignees, attachments, and progress counters. That range keeps practical task context close to the outline, although attachments and task assignment are PRO features. Repeating tasks are also reserved for PRO, a meaningful limitation for people managing recurring routines on the free plan.

Integrations include Zapier, Dropbox, Google Calendar sync, Jira, YouTrack, Slack, browser extensions, and an Open API. The Web Clipper can collect tasks, bookmarks, and notes from web pages and services including Gmail, Zendesk, Jira, and GitHub. PRO adds an MCP server that lets AI assistants read and search lists and manage items; users who do not need that connection can stay on Free.

Checkvist's mobile experience is a progressive web app for iOS and Android, with list syncing and offline use. That is useful for continuing to work away from a connection, though the mobile offering is a web app rather than a separately listed native app. The company says it does not use tracking tools on its website or in user accounts and does not sell personal data. User, list, and history database data is stored on dedicated servers in Germany; attachments and backups are stored in AWS Ireland. Inactive non-PRO user data is removed after a year of inactivity following two email warnings.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, billed forever. It includes unlimited hierarchical lists, unlimited sharing and collaboration, tasks added by email, Markdown, notes, due dates, tags, the mobile offline web app, browser extensions, and the Open API. It is a substantial starting point for individuals or collaborators who can do without file storage, assignment, repeating tasks, and PRO integrations.

PRO costs 3.90 USD per month, billed $39/year per person. It adds 2 GB of file storage, task assignment, repeating tasks, Google Calendar synchronization, Slack save, the MCP server, advanced sharing, and 30-day and Dropbox backups. At the listed annual billing, it is the relevant upgrade for users who need those task and sharing capabilities; the per-person charge matters when several collaborators need accounts.

PRO team costs 6.90 USD per month, billed $69/year per person, and is marked “COMING SOON.” Its planned features are centralized data ownership, user management, group access rights, spaces, and priority support. The free 14-day trial includes all PRO features, requires no credit card, and downgrades the account to Free afterward.

Platforms

Checkvist is available on the web, Android and iOS through its mobile progressive web app, browser extensions, and API. Offline access is supported on mobile, and the editor supports Markdown.

Who it's for

Choose Checkvist if your work fits expandable lists and you want task details, collaborative sharing, and offline mobile access in one service. It is especially practical for users who want to begin on a free plan and upgrade only when assignment, attachments, recurring tasks, or advanced sharing become necessary. Look elsewhere if your work depends on a board-based workflow or you need PRO capabilities without a per-person subscription.

Pros and cons

Pros: Unlimited hierarchical lists and sharing on Free give individuals and groups room to build substantial workflows without a subscription.
Pros: Keyboard editing, multiple navigation controls, and rich task details support both fast capture and structured planning.
Pros: Offline mobile use, exports in four formats, and a broad integration set make lists more flexible across devices and services.
Cons: Attachments, assignment, recurring tasks, and MCP access require PRO, so the free plan cannot cover every task workflow.
Cons: PRO is priced per person and billed annually at $39/year, which can add up for larger groups.
Cons: PRO team is marked “COMING SOON,” so its centralized ownership and group administration are not a current choice.

Verdict

Checkvist is a strong choice for people who think in nested lists and want collaboration, task context, and offline mobile access without paying to get started. Its clearest advantage is the combination of unlimited hierarchy and a capable free plan; its main drawback is that attachments, assignments, repeating tasks, and AI-assistant access sit behind a per-person PRO subscription. Choose it for flexible list-centered work, and look elsewhere if your workflow depends on a different project structure or needs those paid features at no cost.
