Overview

Veryfi Invoices OCR API converts invoices into structured data for software workflows, rather than serving as a standalone invoice-management app. It suits developers and finance teams building accounts-payable, bill-pay, or purchase-order matching processes. Its extraction breadth and integrity checks are useful, but the $500.00 monthly minimum makes it a costly paid starting point.

The API returns invoice fields in JSON alongside recognized OCR text. It accepts PDFs and images and is designed to handle variation in invoice layout, geography, and language. That combination is a good fit when downstream systems need both consistent fields and the source text.

Key features

Structured data and text

Veryfi says the API supports more than 150 fields, including supplier, line-item, tax, and payment data, as well as totals. Returning line items and OCR text gives an implementation more to work with than a basic text-recognition endpoint. The product also supports PO matching, which makes it relevant to workflows that reconcile invoices against purchase orders.

Invoice integrity and workflow connections

Checks for duplicates and altered invoices include digital tampering analysis and PDF layer analysis. These can help surface questionable documents in an AP flow, but they are checks rather than a substitute for a broader approval process. SDKs and code samples cover Python, Node.js, PHP, C#, and Java, among other languages; n8n and Zapier integrations offer options for connecting document processing to workflows.

Transaction size and safeguards

One transaction is one document of up to 15 pages. That gives teams a clear unit for budgeting and processing, but documents longer than 15 pages require a custom account configuration. Veryfi states that its platform is SOC 2 Type II certified, uses TLS 1.2 and 1.3, salted password hashing, and AES encryption at rest and in transit, and complies with GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA. It will sign a BAA upon request.

Pricing

The Free plan costs $0 per invoice and allows up to 100 documents per month, billed monthly. It is the low-risk way to assess the service or handle a small volume, but the cap limits its usefulness for a sustained production workflow.

Starter costs 500.00 USD per month, billed monthly, with a $500/mo minimum commitment. It charges $0.16 per invoice and covers 0–25,000 transactions per month, with a 15-page maximum per transaction. The commitment sets a substantial floor even for teams whose usage is modest; the stated per-invoice rate and quota are more relevant to teams with recurring volume.

Growth uses volume discounts and custom pricing; contact sales. It includes unlimited storage, custom data retention, and SLA options, making it the tier to discuss when those requirements or larger volumes outgrow Starter. The free offer is capped at 100 documents, while Growth's retention and SLA options are aimed at different operational needs. The invoice API page also offers documentation, FAQs, human expert support, and a free demo.

Platforms

Veryfi lists Android, iOS, web, and API platforms. The API and developer tools make it most compelling for teams integrating extraction into their own systems; the mobile and web platform listings broaden access beyond an API-only footprint.

Who it's for

This is a strong fit for developers and finance operations teams automating accounts payable, bill pay, or three-way purchase-order matching, especially when they need line-item extraction, OCR text, and invoice-integrity checks in the same workflow. It is a weaker fit for low-volume users who cannot justify the Starter commitment, or for anyone seeking a ready-made invoice application rather than an API-centered service.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad structured extraction. Support for over 150 fields, including line items, plus OCR text gives downstream systems both structured values and recognized text.
Pros: Integrity checks are part of the offering. Duplicate detection and tampering-related checks address risks relevant to invoice workflows.
Pros: Developer and workflow options. SDKs, code samples, n8n, and Zapier provide several routes into an implementation.
Cons: High paid entry commitment. Starter's $500/mo minimum is hard to justify for a small or intermittent invoice volume.
Cons: Tight free ceiling. Up to 100 documents monthly can support evaluation or limited use, but not a larger ongoing operation.
Cons: Long documents need custom configuration. The standard transaction limit stops at 15 pages.

Alternatives

Choose Dext Prepare instead if a paid product with a stated annual plan suits better: its Business plan is 290.00 GBP per year, billed at £24.17 per month, with 250 documents monthly and five users; it has no free plan.

DocuClipper Invoice Approval is a paid alternative with no free plan; its Starter costs 20.00 USD per month when billed annually and includes 60 pages monthly, unlimited users, API access, and email and chat support. Pick it when that stated low-volume page allowance and user access better match the need than Veryfi's minimum commitment.

Tungsten Power PDF is a paid alternative for readers considering a desktop PDF editor with PDF creation, editing, conversion, redaction, and Bates stamping.

Circulus is a paid alternative with a stated AP Automation plan at 481.00 USD per month; consider it when comparing AP automation options.

Datamolino is another paid option for readers comparing invoice-related software across web and mobile platforms.

Nanonets Invoice OCR is worth considering for readers who want a free plan and free trial alongside API access; its Starter begins with $50 in credits, then costs $100 per month for 100 credits.

Parseur suits readers comparing a freemium API and web option: its free plan allows 20 pages per month, one user, and 90-day document retention.

ABBYY FlexiCapture for Invoices is another option to consider for readers evaluating invoice capture software.

Verdict

Choose Veryfi Invoices OCR API if you are building a recurring AP, bill-pay, or PO-matching workflow and value broad field extraction, OCR text, and invoice-integrity checks in one service. The main reason to look elsewhere is cost: the free allowance is small, and paid use starts with a $500.00 monthly minimum commitment.
