What it is
MailHippo is a HIPAA-compliant secure email platform for protecting patient data. It works with an existing email address and provider, and MailHippo says users can begin sending and receiving encrypted messages without setup or configuration. SendSafe provides a personalized URL so anyone can send an encrypted message to a MailHippo inbox, even without a subscription. Messages use SSL/TLS 1.2 or higher in transit, while message bodies and attachments use AES-256 encryption at rest; the key ring is also encrypted. Every plan includes a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement, and message access records identify the authorized user, date, time, and records accessed. The API supports attachments, CC/BCC recipients, HTML content through HTTP POST, and inbound webhooks. MailHippo says its API is featured on Keragon for connections to more than 100 EHRs, CRMs, and AI medical tools. A 30-day trial costs nothing. Basic costs $4.95 a month and Pro $7.95 a month, with month-to-month cancellation.
