Epicollect5
What it is
Epicollect5 is a free mobile and web application for building forms and collecting data. Its web-based drag-and-drop builder supports surveys with up to five hierarchical forms. Forms can record GPS locations, photos, video, audio and barcodes. On mobile devices, collection can continue offline, with data uploaded to the server after connectivity returns. Results are available in tables and maps and can be exported as JSON or CSV.
Projects can be public or private; private projects require authentication, and project owners can use user roles. Custom mappings help tailor exports for other systems, while a read-only API serves data through HTTPS GET requests. API limits include five requests per minute for projects and entries, ten for media, and 500 entries per request. The service is free to use, subject to fair usage. Project managers retain ownership, but data in public projects is visible online to anyone. Mobile app data is not encrypted by default. Epicollect5 is hosted in a UK data centre, uses HTTPS and daily backups, and directs support questions to its community.

Epicollect5 brings form creation, mobile collection and data review together at no charge. Its privacy settings and mobile storage limitation matter when deciding how to handle sensitive project data.
Who it suits
Epicollect5 suits teams collecting structured field data who need mobile offline capture, multimedia forms and exportable results. Those managing sensitive information should account for public-project visibility and the lack of default mobile encryption.
