Doska
What it is
Doska is a free, MIT-licensed local-first Kanban board whose cards are Markdown files. Boards stay stored locally and work offline, with synchronization added when configured. Card bodies support GitHub-flavored Markdown, task lists, links, deadlines and priorities. Board tools include row view, sortable deadlines and priorities, search, sidebar folders and undo for deleted cards. The desktop app can sync boards both ways with a local folder, using folders for columns and Markdown files for cards. Cross-device synchronization and shared boards require a self-hosted server running with Docker and Docker Compose. Administrators create accounts there, while board owners can share boards or publish read-only links. Self-hosted single sign-on supports OpenID Connect providers. An MCP endpoint lets connected agents read and edit boards through OAuth-protected access limited to the signed-in account’s boards. Attachments require a sync server and have a default 25 MiB single-file limit. Doska is in active development.
For and against
For
- Works offline with locally stored boards
- Cards use GitHub-flavored Markdown
- Desktop folder synchronization works both ways
- MCP editing with OAuth protection
- MIT licensed with no paywalled features
Against
- Shared boards require a self-hosted Docker server
- Attachments require a sync server
- Default single-file upload limit is 25 MiB
- Project is in active development
The verdict
Doska favors local control, offline work and file-based cards over managed collaboration. It is a strong fit when self-hosting is acceptable, but shared access adds server requirements.
Who it suits
Doska suits people who want an offline-capable Kanban board with Markdown files and local storage. Teams needing shared boards or cross-device sync must operate its self-hosted server.
