Overview

vidIQ brings keyword research, competitor comparisons, channel audits and metadata optimization to YouTube creators. Keyword Research combines scores and estimated search volume with competition, related keywords, matching terms and questions, helping creators assess a topic from several angles. Competitors supports channel-performance comparisons, but vidIQ does not provide rank tracking, so creators who need to monitor keyword positions should look elsewhere.

Connecting a channel requires permission to view analytics and manage videos and playlists. vidIQ says it uses multi-factor authentication so only the channel owner can modify the channel, and identifies itself as a certified YouTube service provider that prioritizes privacy and data security. The required permissions are worth considering before connecting a channel.

Key features

Research and optimization

The browser extension adds video SEO scores, keyword recommendations, competitor research overlays and upload optimization tools. This is useful for creators who want guidance while preparing uploads, rather than switching between separate research and publishing workflows. Channel audits and metadata optimization round out the toolkit, though the free plan’s limited research results can constrain how much value casual users get from those tools.

Mobile and AI tools

The iPhone and Android apps offer video research, content optimization and channel insights, giving creators a mobile option for reviewing and refining their channel. AI credits are shared across supported tools and refresh monthly on the sign-up or upgrade anniversary. That shared pool makes the monthly allowance important: usage in one supported tool draws on the same credits as another.

Support

Users can contact Creator Support through Help in the vidIQ account menu. That provides an in-product route for assistance when questions arise about the toolkit or account.

Pricing

vidIQ uses a freemium model, with a free plan and paid plans aimed at individual creators through larger teams. The stated paid-from price is $19/mo, while the plan details include different billing terms and allowances; check the term and channel or seat limits that match your use.

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes	Best fit
Free	0.00 USD per free	150 AI Credits monthly; Keyword Research 3 results/search; Outliers 8 results/search; Personalized Daily Ideas 3/day. Keyword Research also shows only three results for Keywords For You, Rising Keywords and Top Search Terms for Your Channel.	New or occasional creators who want a no-cost introduction and can work within small research and idea quotas.
Max	39.00 USD per year, billed yearly; saving $120 with yearly billing	6,000 AI Credits monthly and unlimited insights.	Creators seeking a larger monthly AI allowance and broader insights at an annual billing term.
Boost	Custom pricing; billed yearly, cancel anytime	2,000 AI Credits monthly, unlimited trends research and unlimited subscriber insights.	Creators who prioritize trends and subscriber research; the annual term matters even though cancellation is allowed.
Enterprise	799.00 USD per month	Unlimited AI credits, up to 3 full-access seats and up to 5 connected channels.	Brands, businesses, agencies and networks coordinating several channels or users.
Enterprise Pro	2500.00 USD per month	Up to 8 full-access seats, up to 20 connected channels and Creator Discovery.	Larger teams needing more seats and channel capacity than Enterprise.
Enterprise Pro + YouTube Strategy	Custom pricing	A dedicated YouTube strategist, 60-minute bi-weekly strategy calls and coaching support on 1 identified channel.	Organizations seeking ongoing strategic coaching for a specific channel.

The Free plan’s three-result keyword views and three daily ideas are meaningful constraints for creators who research multiple topics. Max offers 6,000 monthly AI credits and unlimited insights, but its yearly price is a commitment; Boost adds unlimited trend and subscriber research with 2,000 credits and yearly billing. Enterprise tiers trade substantially higher monthly prices for multiple full-access seats, connected channels and, at the top tier, Creator Discovery. The strategy add-on is for teams that want coaching rather than just software access.

Platforms

vidIQ is available on web, as a browser extension, and through iOS and Android apps. That range suits creators who move between desktop upload work and mobile channel review.

Who it's for

vidIQ is a strong fit for YouTube creators who use keyword discovery, competitor comparisons and upload optimization as regular parts of channel growth. Its mobile apps and browser extension extend those tools across common creator workflows. The free plan suits limited exploration, while larger research needs make the paid allowances more relevant. It is less suitable for creators whose priority is rank tracking, which vidIQ does not offer, or for those unwilling to grant the channel permissions required for integration.

Pros and cons

Pros

Keyword Research pairs demand and competition estimates with related terms and questions, giving creators several ways to evaluate a video topic.
The extension combines SEO scores, keyword recommendations, competitor overlays and upload optimization tools in the browser.
Mobile apps provide video research, content optimization and channel insights on iPhone and Android.
Enterprise options specify seat and channel limits, helping larger teams assess capacity before choosing a tier.

Cons

The free plan limits several keyword views to three results and daily ideas to three, restricting sustained topic research.
There is no rank tracking, a notable gap for creators who need to monitor keyword positions.
YouTube connection requires access to analytics and permission to manage videos and playlists, which may not suit users cautious about account access.
Enterprise tiers carry high monthly prices, while the yearly billing on Max and Boost requires attention to the commitment.

Alternatives

TubeBuddy is another freemium option across Android, iOS, web and extension; consider it if its Legend plan’s Pro features, advanced analytics and full search and SEO access better match your needs.

YTThumbnail is free on Android, iOS and web, with no registration or payment required for personal, non-commercial use. Choose it when that free, personal-use scope is all you need.

YTStudio is a free web option with 40+ tools and no signup required, making it worth considering if browser access without registration is the priority.

Vidlens offers a free plan with 30 AI credits monthly, one competitor channel, keyword research and AI title, description and tag tools; its Pro plan is 14.99 USD per month. Consider it if those specific limits and tools suit your workflow better.

TubeSpanner has a free plan with a personal bio page, two video scripts and two thumbnail designs per month, plus a free trial. It may fit creators who want those creation tools rather than vidIQ’s research emphasis.

RankVids is a paid web option with a Starter plan at 23.99 USD per month, billed $23.99/3 months and renewing automatically after three months. Consider it if a paid web tool and its stated billing structure fit your preference.

TubeRanker is a paid web tool with a Basic Plan at 9.90 USD per month, including 50 keyword searches per month, 20 tracked keywords and unlimited channel audits and generators. Its tracked-keyword allowance may appeal to creators seeking keyword monitoring on a lower-priced plan.

1of10 has a free plan with 60 credits monthly, one channel and outlier and thumbnail search limited to five results; consider it if those limits fit your needs.

Verdict

Choose vidIQ if you want YouTube keyword research, competitor comparisons and upload optimization across browser, web and mobile, with enterprise tiers for multi-channel teams. Its broad workflow coverage is the main reason to choose it; look elsewhere if rank tracking is essential or if the free plan’s tight research limits are too restrictive.
