Overview

Testportal is an online assessment platform for quizzes, tests, exams, and certifications. It is a strong fit for educators, HR teams, trainers, and organizations that need to create assessments and track results across a range of question types. Its broad delivery and reporting options are useful, but response allowances make the right plan important for recurring programs.

Key features

Questions can be written from scratch, imported from PDF or Word, or generated with AI. Single- and multiple-choice formats, self-grading short answers, and descriptive open responses span quick knowledge checks through work that requires human judgment. Automatic and manual scoring, partial or negative points, bonus points, pass marks, grade ranges, and multidimensional scoring give administrators room to shape evaluation; the trade-off is that open-ended responses can require manual scoring.

Reporting includes results tables, respondent reviews, scores by question, pass rates, histograms, grade distributions, average answer times, answer popularity, and cross-test results. Live monitoring and progress statistics help administrators follow an assessment as it runs, while certificates support credential-based programs. Business and paid education plans export reports in PDF, XLSX, and CSV; Free EDU limits report downloads to PDF.

Tests can be distributed through public links, email verification, group passwords, individual access codes, printable sheets, website embeds, Microsoft Teams, or an API. The API can authorize respondents, start tests, and return results through another system, making it relevant to organizations that want assessments within an existing workflow. Respondents need no Testportal account and can resume after interruptions. Testportal says up to 1,000 people can take a test simultaneously, with larger groups directed to contact the company.

The Microsoft Teams add-in supports Azure Active Directory authorization and live webcam monitoring. Testportal says it is GDPR ready and offers a customized data processing agreement; its infrastructure is based on Microsoft Azure and includes anti-DDoS techniques, auto-scaling, redundancy, SSL, and data encryption. These measures may matter to organizations assessing deployment requirements, though they do not replace their own review of suitability.

Pricing

Free EDU costs 0.00 USD per free, billed Free forever!, and includes 100 results storage, advanced test configuration and reporting, additional user accounts and collaboration, and customization. It is the sensible starting point for a small education program, but the 100-result storage cap and PDF-only report exports constrain longer-running or more data-intensive use.

Standard costs 35.00 USD per month and allows 30 results/month. It includes AI question creation, PDF/Word import, analytics and reporting, certificates, and API integration. That quota makes it a modest fit for low-volume business assessments, not a high-throughput testing program. PRO costs 79.00 USD per month for 300 results/month, with the same core capabilities; it suits organizations with more regular volume. MAX costs 129.00 USD per month for 3,000 results/month and the same listed core package, a better match for larger recurring programs.

EDU costs 39.00 USD per year and includes unlimited results storage, advanced test configuration and reporting, additional user accounts and collaboration, and customization. It is the lower-cost education option for institutions that need those capabilities without a stated storage ceiling. MAX Customized has custom pricing, starting at $159 / month, and includes unlimited results/month, AI question creation, document import, analytics and reporting, certificates, additional users and collaboration, and API integration. EDU School and EDU University both have custom pricing and unlimited results storage, advanced configuration and reporting, additional accounts and collaboration, and customization; EDU School is for district deployments only.

The 14-day trial offers a short evaluation window before a paid commitment. The listed terms do not specify seat allowances or renewal conditions, so readers should confirm those details when selecting a paid plan.

Platforms

Testportal is available on Android, iOS, web, and as an extension. Its Teams add-in and API provide additional ways to connect assessment delivery with existing systems.

Who it's for

Testportal suits teachers, schools, universities, language schools, training and certification programs, and HR, sales, or customer-service teams. It is particularly useful when one assessment workflow needs varied question formats, respondent access controls, monitoring, and reporting. It is less compelling for programs whose response volume exceeds a plan's allowance unless a higher-tier or custom plan fits the budget.

Pros and cons

Pros: Multiple question creation routes and scoring modes support both objective checks and assessments requiring human review.
Pros: Reporting, live monitoring, certificates, and multiple distribution channels cover much of the assessment lifecycle.
Pros: Respondents can start without accounts and continue after interruptions, reducing friction for test takers.
Cons: Standard, PRO, and MAX impose monthly result quotas, so sustained volume can require a more expensive plan.
Cons: Free EDU stores only 100 results and exports reports only as PDF, limiting its usefulness for extended analysis.
Cons: The stated simultaneous-response ceiling is 1,000; larger events require contacting Testportal.

Alternatives

FlexiQuiz is worth considering when a free plan with unlimited quizzes matters more than Testportal's broader listed result allowances: its free tier permits 20 responses per month and 20 per quiz, with up to 10 questions per quiz.

SpeedExam may suit buyers seeking a free exam tool with 25 attempts per month and 2,000 questions, or a paid monthly tier priced at 37.00 USD per month.

TriviaMaker is an alternative for trivia-style activities, with a free Basic plan that limits styles, teams, buzzers, and Crowd participants.

ClassMarker is another freemium assessment option, including a Professional 2 plan with up to 1,000 credits per month and AI exam proctoring.

ExamSoft is a paid alternative whose capabilities depend on the product and terms in the customer's order form.

Sporcle is an alternative for downloadable sets of vetted trivia questions.

Exam.net is worth considering for schools or universities seeking an annual school-based license with unlimited use across subjects.

Crowdpurr is a web-based alternative with a free Basic tier for up to 20 participants, 15 questions, and three simultaneous experiences.

Verdict

Testportal is a good choice for educators and organizations that need flexible question formats, controlled delivery, active monitoring, and detailed reporting in one assessment platform. Its respondent access options and integration routes strengthen that case. Look elsewhere if a low-cost plan must support substantial monthly response volume, or if the free education tier's 100-result storage cap is too restrictive.
