Overview

Pick a protagonist and one of eight story worlds—Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Romance, Mystery, Wuxia, Urban, Thriller, or Workplace—then guide the plot with a suggested path or your own direction. Each new chapter runs about 800 words and offers three paths forward. That structure makes TaleAI a fit for serialized, choice-driven reading, rather than a tool for shaping a single fixed manuscript.

Its memory can reach back thirty chapters and retain details such as names, wounds, and promises. That continuity gives decisions room to matter over time. Chapters are cached for offline reading, while AI-generated covers and hero portraits lend stories a visual identity; a completed chapter can also become three pages of panel art.

Story text comes from DeepSeek, while Volcengine/Seedream generates covers, character images, and chapter art. TaleAI supports English, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Thai, with both Chinese variants represented in the app listing.

Key features

Branching chapters: Choose from three suggested paths or enter a custom direction. Readers get control over the next beat without having to write every turn themselves.
Persistent character memory: Recall across as many as thirty chapters can support longer-running plots, though it does not promise unlimited recall.
Offline reading and narration: Cached chapters remain readable offline. Free on-device narration supports sentence tapping, 0.75–2x speed, sleep timers, and locked-screen playback, making it a strong option for listening without a cloud narration subscription.
Illustrations: AI covers and hero portraits give stories visual framing, and chapter-to-panel conversion adds a comic-like option. These creative extras draw on credits, so readers should account for the quota before relying on them often.
PDF and EPUB exports: Free exports are watermarked; Plus removes the watermark, which matters to readers who want cleaner saved copies.

Pricing

TaleAI uses a freemium model. Its free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes two stories, up to fifteen chapters each, 90 credits, watermarked PDF/EPUB exports, and on-device narration. The caps make it a reasonable way to sample the format, but frequent readers can exhaust the chapter allowance quickly.

Credit top-up: 0.99 USD per once. Top-ups never expire and can be used for optional AI art and cloud narration; this is a targeted add-on, not a way to remove the free plan's story and chapter limits.
Plus monthly: 9.99 USD per month, billed App Store. It adds unlimited stories and chapters, 1,000 credits per month, cloud sync, and unwatermarked PDF/EPUB exports. It suits regular readers who want room to continue stories and keep them synced.
Plus yearly: 69.99 USD per year, billed App Store, with the same Plus benefits. It lowers the effective cost for readers committed to a full year, but requires paying for that term.
Pro monthly: 19.99 USD per month, billed App Store. It includes everything in Plus, 200 Deep Mode chapters per month, selfie portraits, 14 art styles, priority generation, and 2,000 credits per month. Choose it for the expanded image options and Deep Mode allowance, not simply for longer reading.
Pro yearly: 149.99 USD per year, billed App Store, with the same Pro benefits. It is the longer-term option for readers who expect to use those additions regularly.

Plus and Pro both remove the free story and chapter caps, but their monthly credit allowances remain defined. Paid plans are billed through the App Store.

Platforms

TaleAI is available on iPhone and iPad. Mac compatibility requires macOS 12.0 or later and an Apple M1 chip or later, so older Macs are not supported by the stated requirements.

Who it's for

TaleAI is best for readers aged 12 or older who want to shape serialized fiction, revisit earlier character details, or listen to chapters while doing something else. Its offline cache and on-device narration are especially useful when reading away from a connection. It is a weaker fit for readers who want a completely open-ended number of chapters on a free plan, or who need platforms beyond Apple's listed devices.

TaleAI says it stores information on secured servers and uses protections including encryption in transit. Its privacy policy says it does not sell personal information and shares it only with listed service providers, when legally required, or to protect users and the service. Support is available at support@nanhara.com or through in-app feedback.

Pros and cons

Pro: Thirty-chapter character memory can preserve names, injuries, and promises, helping branching stories build continuity.
Pro: Offline chapter caching and capable on-device narration support reading and listening without cloud narration.
Pro: Plus offers unlimited stories and chapters, cloud sync, and clean exports at 9.99 USD per month.
Con: The free allowance stops at two stories and fifteen chapters per story, limiting longer experiments.
Con: Pro's higher price primarily makes sense for Deep Mode, portrait, art-style, priority-generation, and credit benefits; readers focused on text can choose Plus instead.
Con: Mac use requires an M1 chip or later, and the listed platforms do not include Android or web.

Verdict

Choose TaleAI if you want mobile-first interactive fiction with branching choices, memory that carries across chapters, offline access, and flexible narration. Its strongest case is the combination of story continuity and reading tools; its main drawback is that the free plan is tightly capped, while the most elaborate art options sit behind Pro. Readers who need Android or web access should look elsewhere.
