Overview

Shipwell TMS is a transportation management system for shippers, covering work from sales orders through freight audit. It is aimed at logistics coordinators, planners, and operations managers handling complex freight workflows. Its broad operating scope is a clear advantage, though buying requires a customized quote rather than self-serve pricing.

Key features

Shipwell brings freight procurement, load tendering, exception management, invoice settlement, freight audit, and spend analysis into one environment. That breadth can help teams keep transportation work connected across the shipment lifecycle; teams with only a narrow freight need may find the platform broader than necessary. Predictive analytics and AI-powered decision support add planning and decision tools, while AI Workers and RFP Automation are also available as standalone modules within the same Shipwell environment.

The platform supports planning, pricing, booking, and tracking across road, rail, ocean, and parcel shipments, with carriers, brokers, and fleets. This multimodal scope suits shippers coordinating diverse freight, rather than those focused on one mode. A supplier portal extends the workflow to onboarding, purchase order creation and release, order visibility, notifications, and shipment creation.

Shipwell describes the TMS as API-first, with REST, SOAP, and webhook connectivity. ERP integrations can exchange data through APIs in real time or use flat-file transfers over SFTP for batch processing. The partner directory includes Infor, Microsoft D365, Highway, UPS, Coyote, and SAIA. This range offers multiple routes to connect systems, but implementation choices will depend on a customer’s existing environment.

Shipwell states that it encrypts data with AES 256 and SSL/TLS 1.2 or stronger, maintains SOC 2 compliance, and targets 99.9999% uptime. It says customer data is processed according to customer instructions and is not accessed or used without explicit permission. TMS customers can contact a dedicated portal for platform bug questions; access is arranged through a Customer Success Manager and capped at two portal logins per customer.

Pricing

Shipwell TMS: custom pricing; contact sales for a customized quote based on organizational needs. There is no published price to compare before engaging with sales, so this fits organizations prepared for a tailored purchasing process better than buyers who need a clear budget upfront.

Platforms

Shipwell TMS supports web, Android, iOS, and API access. The native shipper app is available for iPhone and Android and uses web-platform credentials. The separate Shipwell Driver App, also available on Android and iOS, lets carriers view and bid on freight, check upcoming shipments, and communicate with shippers and 3PLs in real time.

Who it's for

Shipwell is best suited to shippers whose logistics coordinators, planners, and operations managers need connected procurement, execution, visibility, settlement, and analysis across multiple freight modes. Its supplier workflows and integration options are useful for organizations connecting transportation activity to suppliers and other business systems. A team seeking a simple single-mode tool or transparent upfront pricing should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad freight lifecycle coverage brings procurement, exception management, settlement, audit, and spend analysis together.
Pros: Multimodal support spans road, rail, ocean, and parcel, with both carrier connectivity and a supplier portal.
Pros: REST, SOAP, webhooks, API-based ERP exchange, and SFTP batch transfers give customers several integration approaches.
Cons: Pricing is custom and requires a sales conversation, making early cost comparisons harder.
Cons: Support portal access is limited to two logins per customer and requires Customer Success Manager registration.

Alternatives

For a logistics-software shortlist, see Logistics Management Software and Transportation Management Software.

Choose Fleetbase if a freemium option, free trial, or its $29.00 USD per month Fleetbase Cloud plan with unlimited orders and users better suits your starting point. Consider Freightos if its $119.00 USD per month Individual Starter Ocean plan—with one user, one custom shipping route, and specified ocean pricing data—matches a more focused ocean-pricing need. Infor Public Sector is another paid option for buyers considering Infor software.

OpenWMS.org is a free alternative. project44 Ocean Visibility is a paid option with a Movement UI or API and connections to more than 150 ocean carriers and forwarders. For warehouse management instead of a shipper-focused TMS, compare Made4net WMS, which uses custom pricing based on features, warehouse size, and cloud or on-premise deployment. CargoWise and Logiwa IO are also options to compare for logistics and fulfillment needs.

Verdict

Shipwell TMS is a strong fit for shippers that need a connected, multimodal freight operation with supplier workflows and multiple integration paths. Its main reason to choose is the breadth of transportation work it brings into one environment; its main reason to look elsewhere is the custom-quote buying process, especially if your team needs transparent pricing or a narrower tool.
