Overview

VolunteerMark brings volunteer scheduling, communications, service records, and event check-in into one system for nonprofits and other organizations running volunteer programs. It suits coordinators who need more than a signup form, particularly those managing recurring shifts or multiple locations. The free tier is a practical starting point for a small roster, but the 50-volunteer ceiling and paid plans’ SMS quotas matter as a program grows.

Key features

Scheduling and communications

Organizations can schedule one-time, flexible, and fixed positions, with automatic scheduling tools and reminders. Email, SMS, in-app notifications, direct messages, chat, and announcements offer useful variety for keeping volunteers informed. SMS is the main constraint: Essential includes 100 messages per month and Royale includes 250, so programs that rely on frequent texting should account for that allowance before selecting a plan.

Hours, mobile apps, and check-in

Volunteers can log service hours, obtain organizational approval, and print certificates. The volunteer app adds opportunity search and signup, position management, hour tracking, and notifications; volunteer accounts and app access are free. A separate kiosk app supports self- or coordinator-led check-in and check-out, PIN-based event access, and served-hours tracking. These options make VolunteerMark useful for programs that need to connect signups with attendance and service records, rather than merely publish shifts.

Integrations and administration

The Salesforce integration syncs volunteer profiles, hours, and activities and automates data updates, a meaningful fit for organizations already managing volunteer information in Salesforce. Whitelabel branding lets organizations apply logos, colors, themes, and a custom subdomain. VolunteerMark also describes SSL-encrypted connections, encrypted inter-server communications and database data, firewalled servers, controlled access, and redundant copies of user data across RackSpace data centers.

Pricing

VolunteerMark is freemium. The FREE plan costs 0.00 USD per free, forever, and allows up to 50 volunteers, one administrator, and unlimited event creation. It gives a small organization room to coordinate events without a subscription, but the volunteer and administrator caps make it a poor fit once a program outgrows a single coordinator or a 50-person roster.

Essential costs 89.00 USD per month, billed month-to-month. It removes volunteer and administrator limits and includes 100 text messages per month. This is the straightforward step up for a growing program that needs more seats and volunteers, but the monthly SMS allowance can be restrictive for frequent outreach.

Royale costs 149.00 USD per month, billed month-to-month. It includes unlimited volunteers and administrators, 250 text messages per month, multiple locations, external services, and data migration. The higher tier is the better fit for organizations coordinating across sites or needing migration support; it still has a defined text-message cap. The pricing summary also gives a paid starting price of 34 /mo (annual), so buyers should distinguish that figure from the stated month-to-month prices for Essential and Royale.

VolunteerMark advertises a 30-day unlimited free trial on its signup page, while its pricing FAQ refers to a 14-day trial. Confirm the trial length before relying on it. Customer support is offered by calls, email, and online chat five days a week.

Platforms

VolunteerMark is available on Android, iOS, and the web. Its separate volunteer and kiosk mobile applications support both volunteer participation and event check-in workflows.

Who it's for

VolunteerMark is a strong match for nonprofits, universities, and other organizations that need scheduling, volunteer communications, hour approvals, and mobile attendance tools together. Its stated range runs from a small one-time community event to large university or national nonprofit programs, but the free plan itself is limited to 50 volunteers and one administrator. Organizations with several locations can consider Royale; those that primarily need basic tracking, or depend on texting beyond the paid monthly allowances, should weigh alternatives.

Pros and cons

Broad coordination toolkit: Flexible position types, automated reminders, multiple communication channels, hour approvals, and certificates cover more of the volunteer workflow than scheduling alone.
Useful mobile operations: Free volunteer app access and a separate kiosk app support signup, service tracking, and event check-in without requiring every task to happen on the web.
Clear upgrade path for larger rosters: Essential and Royale remove volunteer and administrator limits, while Royale adds multiple locations, external services, and migration.
Free tier has a low ceiling: A maximum of 50 volunteers and one administrator can quickly rule it out for a growing organization.
Paid texting is capped: The 100-message Essential and 250-message Royale allowances may not suit programs whose communications depend on frequent SMS.
Trial terms conflict: The signup page advertises 30 days, while the pricing FAQ says 14 days, so the trial should be confirmed before planning a migration or rollout.

Alternatives

Nonprofit Volunteer Management Software and Volunteer Scheduling Software are useful starting points for comparing category options.

Choose POINT if an unlimited-volunteer, unlimited-admin free plan with signups, scheduling, messaging, reminders, and time tracking is a better match than VolunteerMark’s 50-volunteer free cap.

GivePulse is another freemium alternative, with a Basic Free plan limited to one admin, zero subgroups, and five custom fields, and a Give Joy plan at 20.00 USD per month when billed annually.

Track It Forward may suit a grassroots organization with fewer than 25 volunteers that needs basic tracking on its free plan; its Basic plan is 13.25 USD per month, billed monthly.

Vome offers a forever-free Recruit plan with unlimited volunteers and admin seats, one application form, one onboarding sequence, and 35 default database fields.

Get Connected by Galaxy Digital uses custom pricing based on organizational fit rather than volunteer count.

Civic Champs is a paid option with a 1–49 volunteer plan at 49.00 USD per month billed annually, plus a one-time setup fee.

vHours is a paid alternative with a Starter plan at 49.00 USD per month for up to 250 active volunteers and unlimited administrators.

CERVIS is a paid alternative with a Basic plan at 25.00 USD per month for unlimited volunteers, simple needs, one-time events, communications, and built-in reporting, but without hour tracking.

Verdict

VolunteerMark is best for nonprofits and larger volunteer programs that want scheduling, communication, hour records, and mobile check-in under one roof, especially when Salesforce syncing or multiple locations matter. Its free plan gives small teams a way to start, and paid tiers remove roster limits; look elsewhere if a 50-person free cap, capped SMS, or unclear trial duration would complicate your program.
