Overview

Businesses can create checks for blank stock, print payroll checks, customize layouts, and import checks from accounting software. The mobile app supports reviewing and releasing vendor payments and payroll runs, while the service also lists ACH, RTP, wire transfers, printed checks, and eChecks as payment methods. Zil Money is a financial technology company, not a bank; partner institutions and licensed providers handle banking and money movement.

Key features

Check creation and payroll

MICR printing and blank-check support let businesses print checks using their own printer and stock. Payroll checks can include employee details, payments, and deductions, and layouts can use a business’s logo, colors, and text. Those options suit companies that need check output tailored to their operation, but the listed payroll-check capability should not be mistaken for a complete payroll service.

Payment workflows and integrations

Phone-based review and release of vendor payments and payroll runs can help teams keep approvals moving away from a desk. Direct accounting imports and integrations including QuickBooks, Zoho Books, Gusto, Zapier, Xero, Salesforce, and Slack offer useful connections across finance and business tools. The breadth matters most to companies already using those services; the platform’s web delivery model is also worth bearing in mind when evaluating its mobile workflows.

Security and provider relationship

Zil Money says it uses encryption, secure data centers, multi-factor authentication, continuous monitoring, and regular security assessments. It also states that it has completed SOC 2 Type I and Type II examinations and is PCI DSS compliant. These are relevant safeguards, while the separate provider relationship remains important: banking and money movement come from partner institutions and licensed providers, not Zil Money itself.

Pricing

Zil Money describes its pricing as volume-based, with customized plans and discounts for high volume, and says there is no monthly subscription fee. The plan options show why businesses should compare their expected usage and transaction costs before choosing.

Free: 0.00 USD per free, billed monthly, with limited monthly transactions. It is a way to start without a subscription, but the cap may not suit regular payment activity.
Business: Custom pricing with unlimited transactions. This may suit companies whose volume makes a tailored arrangement preferable; no published price means costs need to be established with the provider.
Enterprise: Custom pricing, with unlimited transactions, Enterprise API access, white-label platform options, a dedicated account manager, custom integrations, and SLA guarantees. Its additional options target businesses needing bespoke integrations or service commitments.
Pay as You Go: 30.00 USD per once, billed $30.00 Initial Recharge $30; it allows 3 bank accounts and 3 users. International payments and positive pay are volume/custom pricing, so the initial recharge does not describe all potential costs.
Premium: 499.99 USD per month, billed $499.99/mo, with 500 free credits every month. After those credits, the transaction fee is 0.19%, with a $0.10 minimum. This gives higher-volume users a monthly credit allowance, but activity beyond it incurs transaction fees.
Enterprise Custom: Custom Volume / Custom Pricing, with unlimited bank accounts and users. Transaction pricing and check mailing are volume/custom pricing, a fit for businesses that need scale but require a tailored cost quote.

A 15-day trial is offered. The free plan and trial make initial evaluation possible, but businesses should consider transaction limits, fees, and custom-priced services against their expected payment volume.

Platforms

Zil Money is available on Android, iOS, web, and API. Its delivery model is web; the mobile apps provide payment review and release workflows, while check printing requires a printer and blank check stock.

Who it's for

The strongest fit is a small or medium-sized business that handles checks as well as vendor or payroll payments, and can benefit from accounting integrations. Businesses with high or specialized volumes may value unlimited-transaction or custom enterprise arrangements, provided the tailored pricing works for them. It is less compelling for someone seeking check printing alone or a straightforward fixed monthly cost, since several options depend on volume and custom pricing.

Pros and cons

Pro: Blank-stock and MICR printing, payroll checks, and layout customization bring several check tasks together.
Pro: ACH, RTP, wires, printed checks, and eChecks give businesses multiple payment methods, with phone workflows for reviewing and releasing vendor and payroll payments.
Pro: Direct accounting imports and a broad integration directory can connect payment work with existing business tools.
Con: The free plan has limited monthly transactions, while Premium charges 0.19% with a $0.10 minimum after 500 monthly credits.
Con: Several plans and services use custom or volume-based pricing, making costs harder to assess without a business-specific quote.
Con: Banking and money movement depend on partner institutions and licensed providers rather than Zil Money acting as a bank.

Alternatives

Check Printing Software is a useful starting point for comparing check-focused products. For a free plan with unlimited checks but PDFs that carry a watermark and are stored for 30 days, consider CHECKPRINT. VersaCheck is a paid alternative with monthly plans and support for Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows. Checkrun is another paid option, with a free trial and a $50.00 per month Business subscription. CheckWriter offers a paid cloud single-user limited plan at $8.00 per month. ChequePro has a free Windows plan limited to one device, three bank accounts, and one company, as well as a one-time Essential plan. PrintCheck is a free web option with no subscription or signup requirement and supports up to 500 checks per batch. SimpleChex offers a free web plan limited to one business, one user, and 10 checks per month. SimpleChecks is a web and API alternative with a $14.99 per month Starter plan that includes the first 50 checks, then charges 50¢ per check printed or emailed.

Verdict

Choose Zil Money if your business needs check printing alongside multiple payment methods, payroll and vendor workflows, and accounting connections. Its main advantage is combining those tasks; its main drawback is that transaction limits, fees, and volume-based custom pricing can complicate cost planning. Businesses seeking a simpler, check-only option should compare alternatives before committing.
