Overview

Positionly is an SEO service for tracking search rankings and investigating competing sites. It suits businesses and agencies that want rank tracking alongside backlink checks, audits, and shareable reports; its appeal is breadth, while the free tier’s five-keyword, one-site ceiling is strictly a starting point.

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Warsaw, Positionly checks rankings every 24 hours, with results available around noon in the user’s time zone. That cadence offers regular monitoring rather than live updates, so it fits teams comfortable reviewing daily movement.

Key features

Rank tracking and competitor research

Positionly tracks keywords across local and global search engines and keeps ranking history, giving users a way to follow changes over time. Competitor comparisons include positions, ranking history, and overlapping keywords. That combination is more useful for understanding relative visibility than a current-rank snapshot, though daily checks will not suit anyone who needs intraday changes.

Backlinks and site audits

The backlink tools, powered by Majestic, support keyword-level searches, competitor backlink analysis, and link-quality review. Website audits check crawlability and flag missing keywords. Together these cover practical investigation and site hygiene; they are a useful complement to rankings, not a substitute for a narrowly focused specialist workflow.

Reports, access, and integrations

Reports can be branded and customized, scheduled or generated manually, and exported as CSV or PDF. This gives consultants and teams flexible ways to share results. Users can invite clients or colleagues with read or write access to one or more sites, while white-label options add a custom domain, company name, colors, logo, and removal of Positionly branding. Google Analytics integration is listed, and add-ons can sync with Google Spreadsheets.

Positionly also offers mobile apps for iOS and Android. API access is included with Standard and above, while white labeling starts with Agency; those capabilities are reserved for higher-priced plans.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and covers 5 keywords and 1 website. It is suitable for a small trial of the service, but too constrained for ongoing monitoring across a meaningful portfolio. A 14-day trial is available with no obligation and no credit card required to start.

Basic: 15.00 USD per month (billed 12 months (20% off)); 100 keywords, 10 websites, 10 competitors, 2,500 backlinks, and 1 user. This is the entry paid tier for an individual monitoring several sites, but the single seat limits collaboration.
Medium: 39.00 USD per month (billed 12 months (20% off)); 500 keywords, 20 websites, 20 competitors, 10,000 backlinks, and 5 users. It is a better fit for a small team that needs shared access and more coverage.
Standard: 79.00 USD per month (billed 12 months (20% off)); 2,000 keywords, 50 websites, 50 competitors, 20,000 backlinks, 10 users, and API access. This adds integration capacity for larger operations, without white labeling.
Agency: 159.00 USD per month (billed 12 months (20% off)); 5,000 keywords, 100 websites, 100 competitors, 50,000 backlinks, 20 users, API access, and white labeling. Agencies needing client-facing branded reports and broader access get the key presentation tools here.
Platinum: 399.00 USD per month (billed 12 months (20% off)); 12,000 keywords, 500 websites, 500 competitors, 150,000 backlinks, 100 users, API access, and white labeling. Its expanded quotas target large portfolios; smaller teams may not need that headroom.

All paid prices shown are tied to 12-month billing and a 20% discount, so the commitment matters when comparing the monthly figures. Custom pricing can be arranged by contacting Positionly by email or using the phone numbers provided for plan configuration.

Platforms

Positionly supports web, iOS, Android, and API access. The API is a paid-plan feature beginning with Standard, while mobile apps extend access beyond the web service.

Who it's for

Positionly is best suited to businesses, consultants, and agencies that need recurring rank checks plus competitor context, backlink review, and reporting across multiple sites. Its access controls and report branding help teams sharing work with clients, particularly on Agency and Platinum. Solo users with only a few terms can start free, but users needing more than five keywords or one site will quickly need a paid plan. It is less compelling for anyone who needs real-time rank updates or only wants a single-purpose rank tracker.

Pros and cons

Pros: Ranking history and competitor overlap add context to daily keyword tracking, rather than leaving users with isolated positions.
Pros: Backlink analysis, crawlability checks, and missing-keyword flags bring several SEO review tasks into one service.
Pros: Branded, scheduled, and exportable reports plus per-site read/write access support client and team workflows.
Cons: The free plan’s 5-keyword and 1-site limits are too small for most sustained work.
Cons: Basic includes only 1 user, and API and white-label features require higher tiers.
Cons: Daily checks mean the service is not suited to monitoring ranking changes throughout the day.

Alternatives

Choose Geogrid if its free plan’s 200 credits and weekly scheduled rescan better suit a lighter scanning cadence; its Starter plan is 29.00 USD per month billed annually. Topvisor is another freemium option, with a free XS plan offering unlimited projects and keywords; consider it when those stated limits matter more than Positionly’s bundled audit and backlink features. FreeSERP offers a free plan with 100 credits and 10 keywords per project, and a 19.00 USD monthly Starter plan with 2,000 credits and 66 keywords tracked daily, making its credit-based entry relevant to smaller tracking needs.

Marketing Miner has a freemium model and a Minee tier with one website plus competitors, 10 keywords, 50 profilers, and 500 credits; its Minee pricing is custom pricing. CanIRank has a free plan with one website, five keyword reports total, five SEO reports total, and 20 link opportunities total; consider it when those capped reports align with a small initial evaluation. Grid My Business offers a free Starter plan with two business profiles, unlimited keywords, five competitors, and 250 scan credits, which may suit a profile-focused starting point.

Local Rank Guru has a free plan with 500 credits per month for up to 10 businesses, and a 9.00 USD monthly Specialist plan with 10K credits per month; it is an option when those credit and business limits fit the work. ProMapRanker offers a free plan with 150 scan credits, one AI-search visibility check, and one saved business, a narrow free starting allowance compared with Positionly’s broader SEO toolkit.

Verdict

Positionly is a solid choice for teams that want daily ranking history, competitor research, backlinks, audits, and client-ready reporting in one service. Its strongest case is the way those workflows and shared access scale across sites; look elsewhere if you need more frequent rank updates, or if the annual billing and tier limits do not match your workload.
