Overview

Pomodoist combines a task manager and Pomodoro timer for people who want to plan work and track focus in one place. It is best suited to users who value detailed planning, voice capture or shared projects alongside timed work; the breadth may be unnecessary if all you need is a simple timer.

It is open source under the AGPL-3.0-only license. FinchForge operates the service. Its privacy policy says it does not sell personal data or display ads; cloud sync uses Supabase to process tasks, projects, tags, reminders, settings and focus-session data across devices.

Key features

Task planning

Pomodoist offers an inbox, upcoming tasks and projects, plus timeline, kanban and priority-matrix views. Filters, search, quick-add parsing, task decomposition and CSV import round out the planning tools. That range gives people with varied workflows ways to sort and review work, though it is more machinery than a lightweight to-do list requires.

Focus and capture

The Pomodoro timer includes configurable breaks, local sounds and focus tracking, with custom intervals and focus statistics. Voice input can create tasks and recognize dates, projects and tags in speech; Pro includes voice tasks and subtasks. This combination is useful for people who want to turn spoken capture into organized work, but voice features are a paid-plan distinction.

Teamwork and integrations

Shared projects, task assignment and activity history support coordination within the planner. Optional integrations include Google Calendar, a Telegram Mini-App, Apple Watch and widgets, account sync, and voice input. The mix extends Pomodoist beyond solo task tracking, although the core appeal remains its combined planner and focus timer.

Privacy and self-hosting

The policy says Axiom collects aggregate website statistics with 30-day retention. Users who want more control can run Pomodoist as an independent server, web app and native clients, with their own accounts, database and integration credentials. The guide's practical minimums—Docker Compose v2, make, openssl, curl, 4 GB RAM and 40 GB free disk—make self-hosting a technical project, not a simple privacy toggle.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes tasks, projects, labels, the Pomodoro timer and productivity reports. Its key trade-off is a 90-day limit on completed and deleted task history, which may be enough for current work but not for people who need a long record.

Pro costs 29.99 USD per year, billed $29.99 billed yearly. It includes everything in Free, voice tasks and subtasks, dates and projects from speech, and task history forever. It is the more relevant option for regular voice capture or keeping an unrestricted history; otherwise the free tier retains the central planning and timer tools.

Lifetime costs 99.99 USD per once, billed One payment, forever. It includes all Pro features and lifetime access without subscription renewals, suiting buyers who prefer a one-time payment over recurring billing. Pomodoist also offers Pro Monthly and Pro Annual plans with custom pricing, and a free trial is available.

Platforms

Pomodoist is available on macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, Windows, Linux, the web and Telegram, with a Chrome extension in beta. Android is planned for October 2026, so Android users should not choose it expecting current app availability.

Who it's for

Pomodoist fits people who want structured task planning, focus sessions and optional team coordination in the same product, especially those who will use its voice features or need long-term task history. Its visual planning options and self-hosting path also suit users who want more control than a basic timer or list provides. It is a weaker fit for Android users today, anyone seeking only a minimal timer, or users unwilling to manage self-hosted infrastructure.

Pros and cons

Pro: Multiple task views, filters, search, decomposition and CSV import support both detailed planning and task review.
Pro: The built-in timer, configurable breaks, tracking and statistics connect focus sessions with the task planner.
Pro: The free tier includes core tasks and timing, while Pro removes the 90-day history cap and adds voice-oriented features.
Con: Android is planned rather than currently available, leaving Android users without a listed native app for now.
Con: Self-hosting requires server resources and command-line tooling, which raises the setup burden for users seeking a turnkey option.
Con: The free plan's 90-day completed and deleted task history may not suit users who rely on a lasting archive.

Alternatives

Choose Focus To-Do if Android support is a priority: it has an Android app as well as iOS, macOS, web, Windows and extension availability. Its 3 Months plan costs 3.99 USD per month, while the Premium and Lifetime plan prices are not given.

Session is another free-plan option, available on extension, iOS and macOS; its free tier includes unlimited sessions and rests, two days of analytics, and calendar events inside Session. Choose it when those focus and calendar basics matter more than Pomodoist's broader task-planning features.

Focusmeter offers an Android-only free Minimalist plan with timer customization, unlimited modes, background timing, focus and rest sessions, and ringtone and vibration alerts. It is a straightforward alternative for Android users who want those timer controls.

Forest has a free plan for its core focus features, with occasional ads, one Time Guard app or site, and one Mindful Space soundscape. Goodtime is an Android and iOS alternative with a free basic plan and GPL-3.0 open-source software.

Pomodorome is available on iOS and macOS; its free plan includes custom session lengths, daily statistics, sounds and notifications, while Pro costs 5.00 USD per once. PomodoroTimers is free on Android, iOS and web, with core focus tools and possible advanced extras later. Bodhi Timer is a free Android meditation timer released under GPL 3+.

Verdict

Choose Pomodoist if you want a substantial task planner tied to Pomodoro sessions, with voice capture, teamwork and a self-hosting option. Its strongest reason to choose it is that planning and focus live in one tool; look elsewhere if Android access is essential now, the free history cap is too restrictive, or you want a timer without the broader setup.
