Overview

Thumblore is a web app that turns a video title or topic into thumbnail options, then lets creators refine them in chat. It is best suited to people publishing repeatedly who want to reuse faces and produce both landscape and vertical artwork. Its chief compromise is a credit system whose per-action cost varies.

Each generation returns two options with text, faces, and color handled automatically. That is a useful starting point for creators who do not want to design from scratch, but it is not a promise that every result will be ready to publish: edits to headlines, colors, and layouts also consume credits. Thumblore shows the cost before an action is confirmed, giving users a chance to reconsider.

Key features

Chat-based revisions and reusable avatars

Plain-English editing offers a direct way to request specific changes without taking over a full design workflow. Because edits spend credits too, frequent rounds of revision can reduce how many thumbnails an account produces. Users can create or upload faces, save them for reuse, and place multiple saved avatars in one thumbnail. That makes the tool more useful for recurring channels and casts than for one-off artwork.

Formats and commercial use

Thumblore supports 16:9 and 9:16 formats, including Story, Short, and Reel outputs, and its supported destinations include YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook formats. The terms say users own generated outputs and may use them commercially, subject to applicable law and underlying model-provider rights. Brand kits and batch resizing are also supported.

New accounts receive 100 credits at signup without a payment card, roughly enough for five thumbnails. The Free plan includes one saved avatar, plain-English editing, and exports with a Thumblore badge. That is enough to explore the workflow, but the badge makes it a poor fit for polished public-facing channel art.

Pricing

Thumblore is freemium. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and gives 100 signup credits, approximately five thumbnails, one saved avatar, badge-marked exports, and plain-English editing. Credit costs vary by task, so the approximate thumbnail count is a guide rather than a fixed quota.

Starter costs 9.00 USD per month, billed $9/mo (was $10). It includes 700 credits/mo, approximately 40 thumbnails, up to 10 saved avatars, three AI-generated avatars per month, Story/Short/Reel formats, watermark-free exports, and HD exports. It is the practical entry point for creators who need clean exports and publish regularly, though the credit balance still covers both generation and editing.

Pro costs 24.00 USD per month, billed $24/mo (was $30). Its 2,000 credits/mo are estimated at approximately 120 thumbnails, with unlimited saved avatars, 20 AI-generated avatars/mo, and avatar swap and pop-out in the editor. This tier suits creators who rely on several recurring faces or need more room for production and revisions.

Studio costs 45.00 USD per month, billed $45/mo (was $75). It provides 4,200 credits/mo, approximately 240 thumbnails, unlimited avatars and AI generations, and the shortest wait on every generation. It is aimed at heavier publishing needs; occasional creators are unlikely to need its larger allowance and generation priority.

The published plan estimates are not fixed image quotas: generation and edit costs depend on the work involved. The supplied plan terms do not state a trial length, renewal conditions, or seat limits.

Platforms

Thumblore runs on the web. Its outputs cover YouTube thumbnails and Community posts, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and Stories, TikTok, and Facebook Stories, with 16:9 and 9:16 formats.

Who it's for

Thumblore makes the most sense for independent creators and small publishing teams that want a repeatable thumbnail workflow, recognizable faces across uploads, and both horizontal and vertical versions. The free credits lower the barrier to trying it, while Starter removes the export badge. It is less compelling for someone who needs predictable per-image costs, wants a substantial free export allowance, or prefers manual design control over AI-generated starting points.

Thumblore says it does not sell personal data or use prompts or outputs to train foundation models. Its privacy policy names Dodo Payments, Supabase, Cloudflare, Google Cloud Vertex AI/Gemini, and Cloudflare R2 as service processors, and lists TLS in transit, encryption at rest, role-based access, and database row-level security among its security measures. Support is available through the contact page and at support@thumblore.com.

Pros and cons

Two options per generation: gives creators a choice before spending credits on further refinement.
Chat edits and saved avatars: help keep recurring artwork consistent without requiring design skills.
Vertical and landscape formats: support a mix of video and social publishing destinations.
Badge on free exports: limits the Free plan's usefulness for finished public-facing work.
Variable credit costs: make output volume less predictable when edits and generations share a balance.

Alternatives

For another web-based thumbnail workflow, Thumbsmith has a free plan with three starter HQ credits, daily four-up watermarked previews, and a full editor with templates and saved projects; its Pro plan is $5.00 USD per month with 80 HQ generations/mo. Choose it if a template-based full editor and lower-priced stated monthly plan matter more than Thumblore's reusable-avatar emphasis.

ThumbMaker is another web freemium option, with a Premium plan at 9.90 USD per year billed annually and 800 images per month (200 generations × 4 images each). Its stated image volume and annual price may suit readers prioritizing a large monthly allowance at a low annual cost.

Thumbmagic has a free plan and trial; its Starter plan is $17.00 USD per month billed yearly for 100 thumbnails/month, one avatar, Starter templates, AI Editing, and no watermark. It is worth considering for readers who want templates alongside AI editing and a stated monthly thumbnail count.

Thumby is a freemium alternative available on web, iOS, and Android. CoverHook is a freemium web alternative.

ThumbGen offers a free plan with 150 credits, up to 18 thumbnails, up to 4K output, and reference images; its Starter plan is 9.99 USD per month with 1,000 credits/month. It may suit users who value reference images or an explicit 4K option.

CTRpilot is paid rather than freemium, with a free trial and a one-time $19.00 USD Starter offer that includes 100 credits, 20 thumbnails, six tools, AI Character face-lock, watermark-free output, a commercial license, and credits that never expire. Its one-time credit purchase may fit buyers who prefer not to subscribe.

BeyondBeings is a freemium alternative.

Verdict

Thumblore is a strong fit for recurring video creators who want two automatic starting points, chat-based revisions, and reusable faces across landscape and vertical formats. Its main advantage is a workflow built around repeat publishing; its main drawback is that variable credit costs make the advertised thumbnail counts approximate. Start with the free credits to judge the workflow, and choose Starter if watermark-free HD exports are essential. Look elsewhere if fixed per-image volume or manual editing control matters more.
