Overview

PhotoPad combines everyday adjustments—cropping, rotating, resizing, retouching, color and exposure correction, blur and sharpening—with tools for making collages, mosaics, calendars, greeting cards and photo montages. That range suits varied personal projects, though it is less compelling for anyone whose work depends on stitching larger panoramas.

Editing is non-destructive: effects can be undone, reordered or revisited in a layers list. This makes it easier to revise a sequence of adjustments. RAW editing is supported alongside formats including JPG, GIF, PNG, TIFF and BMP. PhotoPad also supports wide panoramas and HDR or exposure blending, but projects are limited to eight images.

Key features

The maker lists AI-assisted super-resolution resizing, object removal, background removal and colorization of black-and-white photos.

Edited pictures can be uploaded directly to Twitter, Flickr, Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive. That offers a direct route to sharing or storing finished work. Windows desktop versions support Windows 7 to 11; macOS versions support macOS 10.5 or later.

Pricing

PhotoPad has a free plan at 0.00 USD per free, limited to non-commercial use. No signup is required, which makes it a low-friction choice for personal editing, but not for paid or business work.

Plan	Price	What it includes	Best fit
Free	0.00 USD per free	Non-commercial use only	Personal and hobby projects
Home Edition Annual Plan	Custom pricing	Unlimited use, licensed for non-business use only	Home users who need ongoing use beyond the free edition
Pro Edition Annual Plan	Custom pricing	No restrictions; single location license	Professional use at one location
Pro Edition Quarterly Plan	Custom pricing	Unlimited ongoing use of professional-version features and all upgrades	Professionals preferring a quarterly plan
Pro License	Custom pricing	Pro license	Buyers seeking a Pro license

The Home plan retains a non-business restriction, while the Pro annual plan is explicitly limited to a single location. Buyers should also account for version upkeep: those who purchased more than six months ago may need to buy an upgrade to use the current version.

Platforms

PhotoPad is available for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web, Windows and as an extension. For desktop use, the stated system requirements are Windows 7 to 11 or macOS 10.5 or later.

Who it's for

PhotoPad is a sensible fit for home users and hobbyists who want standard photo correction, RAW support and practical creative outputs in one editor. Its non-destructive effects and broad project tools suit people who expect to revisit edits. Commercial users should choose a Pro option rather than the free or Home edition, and panorama specialists may find the eight-image limit restrictive.

Pros and cons

Pros: A broad set of correction tools and creative projects makes it useful for more than basic cleanup.
Pros: Non-destructive effects can be undone, reordered and edited again, supporting iterative work.
Pros: RAW support, HDR/exposure blending and direct uploads to several services widen its practical use.
Cons: The free edition is non-commercial, ruling it out for business use.
Cons: The eight-image project limit can constrain larger panorama jobs.
Cons: Telephone and live chat support are listed only for customers with Platinum support; standard email support is available.

Alternatives

For a dedicated panorama workflow, Panoweaver is worth considering: its Professional Edition includes 300-group batch stitching, HDR stitching, tripod removal and branding or custom URL options. DMD Panorama is a paid Android and iOS option at 9.99 USD per once, while Hugin is a free, open-source choice for Linux, macOS and Windows.

For RAW conversion and tethering in desktop software, choose Capture One instead; it is paid, offers a free trial, and its Pro Subscription includes RAW conversion, tethering and advanced desktop editing tools. Luminar Neo is another paid option across Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. ON1 Portrait AI and ON1 Photo RAW are paid alternatives; MikuMikuDance is a freemium alternative for iOS and Android.

For broader browsing, see Panorama Stitching Software, Photo Editing Software or AI Photo Editors.

Verdict

Choose PhotoPad if you want a versatile editor for personal corrections, RAW files and occasional creative projects, especially with revisable effects and direct upload options. Look elsewhere if you need a free commercial license, larger panorama projects or a more specialized workflow.
