Overview

Nexus brings PC hardware monitoring, cooling controls and RGB lighting into one app. It is best suited to desktop owners who want to manage compatible components together, particularly Windows gamers who value per-game FPS history. Its no-account, offline operation is a welcome strength, but check platform and device support before relying on it.

Key features

Monitoring and cooling

Live readings span CPU, GPU, memory, network, disk, fans and temperatures, giving users a broad system view without separate monitoring tools. Windows adds per-game FPS history, a useful distinction for gamers; that feature does not extend to the other platforms. Fan and pump curves can use any system temperature sensor, while selected devices can remain under BIOS or firmware control. That flexibility suits users who want to tune cooling, but those content with existing hardware settings can leave them alone.

Lighting and integrations

The GPU-rendered lighting engine offers screen sync, audio sync and Game Sync, alongside addressable RGB control, lighting profiles and cross-device sync. Nexus combines its own drivers with a bundled OpenRGB build to widen RGB hardware coverage. It also lists integrations with Corsair iCUE, ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light, Lian Li L-Connect, FanControl and Elgato Stream Deck. The breadth is promising, but compatibility depends on the exact device model; owners of specific components should verify support before treating Nexus as a single control hub.

Remote access and privacy

A phone browser can act as a remote panel, so users can access controls without an installed mobile companion app. Outside the home network, connections use an encrypted relay and switch to direct connection when possible. Nexus says remote sessions are end-to-end encrypted and that the relay cannot read forwarded data. iOS and Android companion apps are not yet in app stores.

Nexus works locally and offline without an account. Optional anonymous usage telemetry can be controlled in settings. Optional profile sync stores up to five profiles of 512 KB each and excludes authentication tokens and listed third-party credentials. This is a sensible privacy-conscious approach, though profile sync is modest in capacity.

Pricing

Free: 0.00 USD per free. The plan has no ads, paid tiers, subscription or account requirement. It is a straightforward fit for anyone seeking Nexus's monitoring, cooling and lighting controls without a recurring cost. There is no free trial because the plan is free.

Platforms

Nexus runs on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, Apple Silicon Macs and x86-64 Linux. It has no builds for Windows on ARM, Intel Macs or ARM Linux, so users on those systems should look elsewhere. Mobile use is through a phone browser remote panel; iOS and Android companion apps are not in app stores yet. Per-game FPS history is Windows-only.

Who it's for

Nexus makes the most sense for PC owners who want live hardware readings, customizable fan and pump behavior, and synchronized RGB effects in one free app. It is especially compelling for Windows gamers who want per-game FPS history. It is less suitable for anyone whose operating system or exact RGB and cooling hardware is unsupported, or who specifically wants a native mobile companion app.

Pros and cons

Pros: Monitoring, cooling and lighting controls share one app, reducing the need to manage those tasks separately.
Pros: Local offline use without an account makes the core experience less dependent on online services.
Pros: Custom sensor-driven curves and the option to retain firmware control accommodate different cooling preferences.
Cons: Hardware compatibility varies by exact model, which can limit the usefulness of the broad RGB and integration support.
Cons: Platform exclusions rule out Windows on ARM, Intel Macs and ARM Linux.
Cons: Mobile remote access relies on a browser rather than an app-store companion app.

Alternatives

For a desktop widget rather than a PC hardware control hub, Desktop Widget Software is a broader category to explore. Readers focused on lighting options can browse RGB Lighting Software; those seeking benchmarking tools can compare PC Benchmark Software.

Mango Mirror is a better fit for screen-based dashboards across Android, iOS, Linux, web and Windows: its free plan allows two screen licenses and includes clocks, news, weather, background images, quotes and custom layouts, with a trial and a 5.99 USD per mon Pro plan. Wdgts 2 is another option for macOS and iOS users seeking a widget app.

For Windows monitoring focused on widgets, Monitor Flows has a free tier with 15 core widgets, three pages and five themes, plus a trial; its Pro plan is 3.00 USD per month. Themia is a Windows widget option whose free tier includes 10 widgets, two screens and full customization, while its Pro plan costs 19.00 USD per once. WidgetSpark offers Windows widgets with a free set and a 1.99 USD per month Pro option. For Mac widgets, Widgetter has a free download and in-app purchases.

Delta Widgets is a free, open-source option for Windows 10/11. Duckboard suits users wanting a dashboard on macOS or Windows: its free plan is limited to one dashboard and three widgets, while a 29.00 USD per once upgrade allows unlimited widgets on one dashboard.

Verdict

Choose Nexus if you want a free, account-free way to bring monitoring, cooling curves and RGB effects together, especially on a compatible Windows gaming PC. Its main advantage is the breadth of control in one app; its main reason to look elsewhere is that exact hardware support and platform limits can rule out the setup you want to manage.
