Overview

Mixos Mold is a browser-based sculpting tool for building organic 3D forms, aimed at artists and hobbyists who want to work across devices without installing desktop software. Its generous free sculpting access is useful for learning and development, but the export gate makes it a poor fit as a no-cost path to finished, portable meshes.

Projects saved to an account can be reopened on other devices after sign-in. Editing runs locally in the browser; saved projects are stored with the account. The maker says projects, models, textures, brushes and prompts are not used to train AI models. Mixos is a New York-based, one-person operation led by Matthew Guild, so studios should weigh that scale alongside the product’s workflow benefits.

Key features

Sculpting and topology

Mold combines GPU sculpting and pressure-sensitive brushes with subdivision, dynamic topology, masking, symmetry, stamp alphas, brush presets and remeshing. Automatic retopology, multiresolution sculpting and voxel sculpting broaden its modeling toolkit. The Free plan includes every brush and subdivision level with unlimited sculpting, making it a substantial workspace for practice and concept work; those capabilities do not remove the separate charge for mesh export.

Models, texturing and handoff

OBJ, FBX and GLB models can be imported. Mold can unwrap a sculpt and send it to Mixos Paint for layered PBR texturing, giving users a route from form-making into materials. Finished meshes export as GLB, OBJ or STL on Pro and Max, while the perpetual license also includes mesh export. Mixos’s broader desktop app can stream materials into Blender, Cinema 4D and Unreal through Live Link; that is a materials handoff, not a substitute for Mold’s export requirement.

Privacy and support

Local browser editing limits where active work is processed, while account saving means stored projects reside beyond the browser. The maker says it does not train AI on user content, but it has no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or equivalent audit and offers no uptime guarantee. That distinction matters to studios assessing operational assurances. Email support is available, and in-app feedback includes the app version.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, billed $0 forever. It includes unlimited Mold sculpting, every brush and subdivision level, 10 trial AI credits and 100 MB of cloud storage. It suits exploration and library-based work, but exporting a mesh requires an upgrade.

Pro costs 8.99 USD per month, billed monthly. It adds Mold export in GLB, OBJ and STL, 50 AI credits per month, 25 GB of cloud storage and email support. It is the practical choice for individuals who need recurring export access without the larger storage and credit allowance of Max.

Max costs 17.99 USD per month, billed monthly. It includes everything in Pro, 150 AI credits per month, 50 GB of storage and priority support. It fits heavier use of those allowances; users who mainly need mesh export may find Pro the more proportionate subscription.

The Perpetual license costs 99.00 USD per once, billed $99 once. It includes 4K watermark-free export forever, mesh export and 20 GB of cloud storage; AI credits are sold separately. It avoids a monthly subscription for users who expect to keep exporting, but provides less storage than either monthly paid tier and does not bundle AI credits. There is no free trial.

Platforms

Mold is available on web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. On desktop, it requires a WebGPU-capable browser; the maker names Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Brave, plus Safari 26+. On iPad and Android it runs in a WebGPU-capable browser, and it is included in the free Mixos iOS app for iOS 26 or later. No installation is required for browser use, but compatibility depends on both the device and browser supporting WebGPU.

Who it's for

Mold suits game artists, motion designers, 3D hobbyists and students who want sculpting tools and cross-device project access, especially if they can work within a browser-based workflow. Studios may value the Paint and Live Link handoffs, but the absence of a recognized security audit and uptime guarantee makes it harder to recommend where those assurances are prerequisites. Readers who need free mesh downloads should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: Free unlimited sculpting with every brush and subdivision level makes it possible to develop forms before paying.
Pros: Account-saved projects can move between signed-in devices, and import covers OBJ, FBX and GLB.
Pros: Pro export covers GLB, OBJ and STL, while the perpetual option provides ongoing mesh export without monthly billing.
Cons: The free tier cannot download finished meshes, limiting its usefulness for production handoff.
Cons: Browser use depends on WebGPU support, including Safari 26+ on desktop and iOS 26+ for the Mixos app.
Cons: No SOC 2, ISO 27001 or equivalent audit and no uptime guarantee may be a concern for studios.

Alternatives

Choose Tamga if its freemium offering and support for web, macOS, Windows, Linux and iOS better match your device mix. Nomad Sculpt is a paid alternative with a free trial and sculpting, painting, PBR rendering, and glTF, OBJ and STL import/export. Sculptura is a paid option for iOS and macOS users who do not need a free plan. Shapelab is worth considering for standalone VR on Meta Quest 3, 3S or Pro; its Max Standalone plan costs 9.99 USD per month or $49.99 per year and has no desktop mode. Putty 3D is an iPhone and iPad option with OBJ and STL export and Apple Pencil and 3D Touch support. Re:Form offers a free plan on macOS and web. SculptGL is a free web and Windows choice. ZBrush offers a free iPad plan with 28 brushes alongside a subscription tier.

Verdict

Mixos Mold is a strong fit for artists and learners who want capable sculpting tools, account-saved projects and the freedom to start without paying. Its decisive drawback is the export paywall: choose it if browser-based creation is the priority and a paid export tier is acceptable; look elsewhere if finished meshes must remain free or your studio requires formal security and uptime assurances.
