Overview

Live agent chat and a website chatbot sit alongside visitor tracking, giving businesses a way to handle conversations and monitor site visitors in one product. The web, Windows, macOS, iOS and Android platforms offer broad device coverage. The free Hobby plan makes it practical to begin without a subscription, but its 100 monthly message credits and one AI chat agent make it a small-scale starting point rather than a generous long-term allowance.

Key features

Website and messaging chat: Live agent chat and a website chatbot cover both human-led support and automated conversations. The combination is useful for businesses that want both, though the plan-specific AI agent limits matter as demand grows.
Visitor tracking: Tracking adds context about site visitors to the chat offering, making tawk.to a fit for teams that want to pair conversations with visitor monitoring.
AI capacity and crawling: Plans distinguish themselves through monthly message credits, AI chat agent counts and crawled-page allowances. Those quotas make it easier to choose a tier by scale, but teams should match each allowance to their expected usage.

Pricing

tawk.to is freemium, with monthly subscriptions for its main tiers and separate paid options for branding, voice and visitor data enrichment.

Hobby: 0.00 USD per free, billed Free of charge. It includes 100 monthly message credits, 1 AI chat agent and 100 crawled web pages. That is the no-cost way to begin, but the credit and page caps limit its fit for sustained or high-volume use.
Growth: 29.00 USD per month, billed $29 monthly. It raises capacity to 1,000 monthly message credits, 3 AI chat agents, 500 crawled web pages and up to 1,000 API calls. This is the natural step up for teams whose needs exceed Hobby but do not require the larger allowances below.
Business: 99.00 USD per month, billed $99 monthly. It includes 5,000 message credits, 5 AI chat agents, 2,000 crawled web pages and 5,000 API calls. The increased quotas suit higher-volume operations that need more agents and crawling capacity than Growth provides.
Enterprise: 399.00 USD per month, billed $399 monthly. Its 20,000 message credits, 10 AI chat agents, 10,000 crawled web pages and 10,000 API calls give the most room among these tiers for teams with substantial usage.
Whitelabel: 29.00 USD per month, billed Per property. It removes tawk.to branding and includes custom domains and branded ticketing emails, making it relevant to organizations that need a more branded customer-facing presence.
Voice Agents: 49.00 USD per month, billed From $49/month plus usage. It includes an inbound voice agent, knowledge-base training and warm transfer to a human. The usage charge means the monthly starting price is not the full cost.
Data Enrichment: 59.00 USD per month, billed From $59/month; scales with volume. It identifies companies behind anonymous visitors, provides verified business contact data and synchronizes with a CRM. Its volume-based pricing suits teams that specifically need those capabilities, but costs scale with volume.

Platforms

tawk.to supports web, Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, covering desktop and mobile use. That range is useful for teams that need access across common computer and phone platforms.

Who it's for

tawk.to is best suited to organizations that want live agent chat, a website chatbot and visitor tracking, and can select a plan around explicit usage quotas. Hobby is a low-commitment starting point; Growth and above are more appropriate when credit, agent, crawling or API needs outgrow the free caps. Teams seeking branded service, inbound voice handling or visitor-company data can consider the add-on plans, with the latter two carrying usage- or volume-linked pricing.

Pros and cons

Pros

Free entry plan: Hobby provides 100 monthly message credits, one AI chat agent and 100 crawled pages without charge, letting a small operation start before taking on a subscription.
Clear scale-up tiers: Growth, Business and Enterprise progressively increase credits, agents, crawled pages and API calls, so teams can compare capacity against their needs.
More specialized options: Whitelabel, Voice Agents and Data Enrichment address branding, inbound voice and visitor identification needs beyond the core chat plans.

Cons

Free capacity is limited: 100 monthly message credits, one AI chat agent and 100 crawled pages can constrain a team once usage rises.
Higher quotas cost more: The core tiers rise from $29 monthly to $99 and $399 monthly, so expanded capacity comes with a substantial subscription step-up.
Some costs vary with usage: Voice Agents adds usage charges, while Data Enrichment scales with volume, making those options less predictable than a flat monthly fee.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, browse Live chat software. Consider these alternatives when their stated plan details or platform support better match your requirements:

Freshchat offers a free plan for up to 10 agents, with a web and mobile chat widget, shared inbox, email, roles and permissions; its free trial and API platform support may also matter to teams comparing entry options.
Crisp has a free plan with 2 seats, no AI credits, 100 customer profiles and unlimited conversations. It may suit teams prioritizing conversation volume over AI credits at no cost.
Chatwoot is open source and offers a free Hacker plan for up to 2 agents and 500 conversations per month. It is worth considering for teams seeking open-source software.
Zoho SalesIQ has a free plan with 3 operator licenses, 100 chats per month, 10,000 visitors per month and 30 days of chat history. Those caps may suit teams whose needs align with that visitor and chat allowance.
JivoChat has a free plan for 5 agents, making it an alternative for teams that value a higher stated free agent count.
Smartsupp offers a free plan with 1 operator, 25 conversations per month and 14-day history. It may suit a small operation with modest conversation needs.
Brevo Conversations has a free plan for 1 user, with no credit card required and no time limit. It is an option for a single user seeking a free plan without a time limit.
MyLiveChat offers a free plan for 1 agent and 3 years of chat history, which may appeal to a solo agent prioritizing long history.

Verdict

Choose tawk.to if you want website and messaging chat, visitor tracking and a free way to start, with paid tiers that scale in credits, AI agents, crawled pages and API calls. Its strongest case is the breadth of those usage-based tiers and separate options for branding, voice and enrichment. Look elsewhere if the free caps do not fit or if higher-volume service would push you into a more expensive monthly plan.
