Overview

SpeedExam is an online assessment platform for educators, employers, and organizations running exams for learning, hiring, appraisals, or training. It is strongest for teams that need varied question formats, multiple publishing routes, and candidate oversight in one system. Its free tier is useful for a small program, but teams with regular volume will need to plan around monthly attempt limits.

Key features

Authoring covers radio-button and dropdown multiple choice, multiple-correct, fill-in-the-blank, matching, drag-and-match, true/false, yes/no, essay, and audio-answer questions; scenario-based questions are also supported. That range suits both quick knowledge checks and assessments that need richer responses. Scoring can use marks, points, or grades, and multiple-correct questions can receive full marks; essays require manual marking, which shifts effort from the platform to instructors.

For exam oversight, SpeedExam offers AI-based cheating prevention, optional live streaming, and candidate photo capture. Exam Monitor can show status, attempts, device, browser, operating system, IP address, and location details. Those signals give administrators more context when reviewing candidate activity, while still leaving decisions to the people running the exam. SpeedExam says communication is SSL encrypted and that security alerts are recorded for review in the administrator account. Its homepage displays GDPR, ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and SOC2 badges.

Analytics go beyond final scores: reports include average score and time, total attempts, candidate score graphs, candidate-, section-, question-, and answer-level statistics, difficulty levels, Challenge Quotient, and question-wise and overall performance reports. These views can help teams identify difficult sections or questions, but essay responses still need manual assessment. Exams can be published through a candidate site, embedded on a website or blog, shared through Facebook, Twitter, email, or SMS, or connected through a registration API or LMS. PayPal, Stripe, and Razorpay payment support lets providers sell exams. A 500-response limit applies.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, billed Today & Always. It allows 25 exam attempts per month, 2,000 questions, and 100 MB of storage. That is a practical starting point for a small class or a pilot, but the attempt cap makes it a poor fit for sustained recruitment or organization-wide testing.

Professional costs 37.00 USD per month, billed Monthly Billing, and raises the cap to 500 attempts per month. It includes 10 instructor accounts, 15,000 questions, and 1 GB of storage. This is the more suitable tier for a team running recurring assessments, though the attempt ceiling remains a constraint for larger candidate pools.

Ultimate costs 180.00 USD per month, billed Monthly Billing. It allows 3,500 monthly attempts, 25 instructor accounts, 50,000 questions, and 1 GB of storage. It is the clearest fit for a larger instructional or hiring operation that needs more seats and capacity; it does not add storage over Professional. Paid plans list phone support, and 24/7 email support is available.

Platforms

SpeedExam supports Android, iOS, web, and API access. Its help documentation names Android and iOS as supported operating systems, and the features page mentions an Android app for exam notifications. The API and LMS publishing options suit organizations connecting candidate registration or exam delivery to existing systems.

Who it's for

Educators, training teams, and employers can use SpeedExam for regular examinations, campus drives, recruitment, and appraisals. It is a good match when varied question types, candidate monitoring, and detailed reporting matter together. It is less compelling for a one-off or high-volume program that cannot work within the free cap or justify a paid tier, or where manual essay marking would dominate the workload.

Pros and cons

Pro: Broad question formats and scoring options accommodate objective tests as well as essay and audio responses.
Pro: Exam Monitor and proctoring options give administrators multiple candidate-activity signals to review.
Pro: Publishing routes span embeds, social channels, messaging, API, and LMS, with payment support for selling exams.
Con: The free plan stops at 25 attempts per month, making it a limited option beyond small-scale use.
Con: Essays require manual marking, so open-response testing adds instructor review work.
Con: Professional and Ultimate still have defined monthly attempt caps, and Ultimate keeps storage at 1 GB.

Alternatives

For another freemium exam platform with a 25-exam free plan and 1 GB of storage, consider Eklavvya; its listed free allowance counts exams rather than SpeedExam's monthly attempts. ThinkExam may suit readers comparing a platform with a free plan and trial, though its Standard plan is priced at 3125.00 USD per month billed annually and includes 100 users and unlimited quizzes. Numbas is a free, open-source option for readers comfortable installing and running its LTI tool; it has no public LTI hosting instance.

ClassMarker is another freemium option with a trial; its Professional 2 plan lists up to 1,000 monthly credits, AI exam proctoring, and custom certificates. ExamSoft is a paid alternative for readers comparing a platform whose capabilities depend on product and order-form terms. Wheebox is another paid assessment option. Inspera Assessment is worth considering for per-student pricing with storage not charged. Janison Assessment Platform uses tailored organizational pricing after requirements are understood. Verdict

SpeedExam is a strong fit for educators and organizations that need varied assessment formats, candidate oversight, flexible publishing, and analytics in one platform. Its main reason to choose it is that breadth; its main reason to look elsewhere is the combination of monthly attempt caps and manual marking for essays. Start with Free for a small program, and choose a paid tier only when its attempt and instructor-account limits match your workload.
