Overview

SpotOn serves a wide range of restaurant formats, from cafes and bakeries to fine dining, breweries, quick service, and fast casual. Its combination of POS, reservations, labor management, and management tools can consolidate everyday restaurant work. That breadth is less compelling for operators who need to choose their own POS devices or build around an open integration platform.

Key features

The POS brings together table layouts, menu management, ordering, payments, reporting, and employee tools. Reservation booking, table management, and staff scheduling extend its reach beyond checkout, making it relevant to restaurants coordinating both floor service and routine staff operations.

SpotOn Order provides commission-free online ordering connected to the POS and GoTo Place app. DoorDash and Uber Eats connect directly, while Deliverect supports additional delivery platforms. The dashboard adds an AI menu assistant, dynamic reporting, marketing campaigns, remote management, multi-location tools, and employee tools. Those capabilities suit operators who want a broad management layer, though the API is not open: integrations are offered through selected software providers.

Offline mode keeps stations and devices connected and sends orders to the kitchen during an internet outage; offline payments sync when connectivity returns. This is a meaningful safeguard for restaurants that need service to continue through a connection failure. SpotOn also includes 24/7/365 technical support from real people at no extra cost.

Integration options span ordering, delivery, labor, inventory, kitchen display systems, kiosks, reservations, accounting, and payroll, with partners including DoorDash, Uber Eats, 7shifts, MarginEdge, and OpenTable. SpotOn does not charge a blanket fee for third-party integrations, but the third-party software itself may charge fees. Customers who opt out of the Core Bundle also pay a small monthly marketplace access fee.

The restaurant POS requires SpotOn’s proprietary hardware; customers cannot use their own POS hardware or tablets. That constraint can be a poor fit for businesses hoping to reuse equipment. SpotOn lists PCI PTS v7 and end-to-end encryption for its Handheld device. The dashboard works in a browser on any device and is described as mobile-friendly.

Pricing

SpotOn’s paid pricing starts at $55/mo, but the plans differ in what they bundle and how they charge. The All-In Plan is $0.00 per free for POS software and hardware, ordering, payments, table layouts, menu management, and reporting. It comes with processing minimums and a two-year minimum term, so the zero listed plan price does not mean a commitment-free option.

Core Bundle is $50.00 per month, billed at $50/month plus 20 basis points of gross payment volume, capped at $200. It is priced per location and includes Profit Assist, SpotOn Order, the GoTo Place app, Marketing Assist, and software integrations. It may suit restaurants seeking those bundled tools, but the added volume charge and marketplace fee for customers opting out should be weighed against the POS Essentials alternative.

POS Essentials costs $55.00 per month, billed at $55 per station per month. Station 15 hardware is $750 each and Handheld hardware is $297 each, with implementation costs extra. Card-present processing is 2.45% + $0.15, except Amex at 3.19% + $0.15; keyed transactions are 3.45% + $0.15. These charges make station count, hardware needs, and payment mix central to estimating the real cost.

Build Your Own has custom pricing for multi-unit, enterprise, and other high-volume operations, with custom processing rates and implementation costs extra. It is the route for larger operators needing tailored terms, rather than a published fixed-cost plan.

Platforms

SpotOn Restaurant is available on Android, iOS, and the web. The browser-accessible dashboard adds flexibility for management, but the POS itself still requires SpotOn hardware.

Who it's for

SpotOn is best suited to restaurants that want POS, online ordering, delivery connections, reservations, employee tools, and reporting in a connected system, especially those operating across multiple service styles or locations. It is a weaker choice for restaurants that need an open API, wish to keep existing POS tablets, or want to avoid processing and implementation costs.

Pros and cons

Pro: POS, ordering, reservations, and management tools cover several restaurant workflows in one system, which can reduce the need to assemble separate products.
Pro: Offline ordering and payment syncing help preserve service during internet outages.
Pro: 24/7/365 technical support is included at no extra cost.
Con: Proprietary POS hardware prevents restaurants from using their own tablets and equipment.
Con: The API is not open, so integrations are limited to selected providers; third-party software charges and possible marketplace fees add to costs.
Con: Processing rates, hardware, implementation, and minimum-term requirements mean plan prices alone do not show the full commitment.

Verdict

Choose SpotOn Restaurant if you want a broad restaurant operating system with connected POS, ordering, management tools, offline support, and around-the-clock technical help. Look elsewhere if keeping your own hardware, using an open API, or controlling processing and implementation costs matters more than consolidating those workflows.
