Overview

PDF Candy is a broad PDF toolkit for people who move between editing, conversion, and document-management tasks. It suits users who want web access, cloud storage connections, and a Windows desktop option in one service; occasional users should weigh its free-tier restrictions before settling on it.

Developed by the Icecream Apps team and offered since 2016, it brings together 98 PDF tools across 19 languages. Its AI features and offline desktop tools extend its reach beyond basic file conversion, but the range may be more than needed for someone with one narrow PDF task.

Key features

PDF tools and AI

PDF Candy supports text editing, annotation, OCR, conversion, merging, splitting, compression, signing, and document protection. That breadth makes it a sensible choice for mixed document work, rather than maintaining separate tools for each operation. Its AI tools can summarize, chat with, and translate PDF documents, adding useful ways to navigate or interpret files.

Cloud and desktop workflows

Google Drive and Dropbox integration lets users import files and save updated versions back to cloud storage. PDF Candy Desktop is a Windows download with 35 tools that can operate offline, a useful distinction for work without a connection. The desktop option is Windows-only; the broader service supports web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.

Security and support

PDF Candy says transfers use HTTPS with TLS/SSL and documents are protected with 256-bit AES encryption in transit and at rest. It says uploaded and created files are deleted from its servers within two hours after processing, and that the platform complies with GDPR and uses ISO 27001-certified data centers. Technical support aims to respond within two business days when the Help Center cannot resolve an order issue. Payments are processed by Paddle.

Pricing

PDF Candy uses a freemium model. The Web + Desktop Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and imposes page and hourly restrictions, limited file size, no batch processing, and a desktop operations limit. That is suitable for occasional, modest jobs, but a poor fit for routine batch work or large files.

Web Monthly costs 6.00 USD per month and includes web access, no hourly limits, tasks up to 500 MB, and high-priority processing. It suits users who need regular online processing but do not need desktop access. Desktop + Web Yearly costs 4.00 USD per year and includes web and desktop access, no hourly limits, up to 500 MB per task, high-priority processing, Video Candy WEB, and Image Candy WEB. The much lower stated annual price makes it the broadest package on these terms, though buyers should check that its billing term matches their needs.

Desktop + Web Lifetime costs 99.00 USD per month, with payment described as pay once. It includes PDF Candy Web and Desktop access and permanent access to a specific software version. The stated monthly unit and pay-once term make this price worth confirming before purchase; permanent access to a specific version is not the same as a promise of ongoing upgrades.

Students and teachers can get one year of PDF Candy PRO online at no cost, with no hourly limits and uploads up to 500 MB. Paid plans have a full refund within 30 days if recurring errors cannot be resolved within a reasonable period.

Platforms

PDF Candy supports web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. Its 35-tool offline desktop app is for Windows, so users who need local desktop processing on another operating system should look elsewhere.

Who it's for

PDF Candy is best for people who handle varied PDF jobs and value having AI tools, cloud imports and exports, and an offline Windows app alongside web access. The free plan can work for occasional use, while the paid web plan is a better fit for frequent online processing. Those who need dependable batch processing or do not want to work within free-tier caps should compare paid terms before relying on the free option.

Pros and cons

Pro: The 98-tool range covers editing, OCR, conversion, signing, and file management, reducing the need for separate single-purpose services.
Pro: Google Drive and Dropbox connections, plus a Windows app with 35 offline-capable tools, support more than a browser-only workflow.
Pro: The student and teacher offer provides a year of online PRO access with no hourly limits and uploads up to 500 MB.
Con: The free plan restricts pages, hours, file size, batch processing, and desktop operations, limiting its usefulness for heavier workloads.
Con: The offline desktop app is Windows-only, even though the service supports several other operating systems and mobile platforms.
Con: The lifetime plan's stated 99.00 USD per month price conflicts with its pay-once description, and it promises permanent access only to a specific software version.

Alternatives

For a focused compression need, PDF Compression Software is a relevant category to compare. For combining files, see PDF Merger Software; readers prioritizing editing can browse PDF editors.

PDF2Go is another freemium option with broader platform support, including browser extensions, and a free plan that gives access to most tools with limited processing. Smallpdf offers a seven-day free trial and 30 tools for free, making it worth comparing if that tool set meets your needs. Xodo Compress PDF is a freemium choice to consider for compression, with a free online plan that allows one low-compression action per day.

AvePDF provides 50+ document tools, but its free tier allows two processing operations per six hours, caps files at 128 MB, and allows 10 files per processing. PDF24 Compare PDF is free, with no limits, registration, or time restrictions, for users who want a no-cost option. PDFOptim is a freemium alternative whose free plan permits three operations a day, files up to 25 MB, and private processing across its four PDF tools.

iLovePDF is another freemium service with a free Basic plan and limited document processing. FS PDF Compressor is a free alternative for users on Linux, macOS, or Windows.

Verdict

Choose PDF Candy if you need a versatile PDF workspace that combines a large tool set with AI features, cloud storage connections, and Windows offline processing. Its main advantage is that breadth; its main drawback is that the free plan’s restrictions can obstruct regular work, while the lifetime plan's stated price and term warrant confirmation. For a single task or predictable free use, a more focused alternative may be the better fit.
