Overview

Mainfolk is a church-oriented website builder for congregations that want staff to manage their own web presence. It is best suited to small churches seeking a purpose-built site without hiring an agency or relying on a volunteer to maintain WordPress. Its strongest case is the combination of church content tools and a free starting tier; the trade-off is that team capacity and analytics require paid plans.

Key features

Church pages and direct editing

An AI-generated first draft provides a starting point for service times, visitor information, sermons and media, events, groups, ministries, and giving. Staff can edit by selecting page content, and Mainfolk says published changes go live worldwide in under a minute. That is a useful fit for churches that need to keep routine details current without routing every update through a web specialist.

Giving pages can link to an existing provider such as Tithe.ly, Pushpay, or PayPal, so a church can keep its processor rather than move donations into a new one. Mainfolk also says every site includes structured data, semantic HTML, and a site-specific llms.txt to support discovery through search engines and AI answers. These are discovery-oriented features, not a substitute for deciding what content the church needs to publish.

Accessibility, hosting, and control

Mainfolk says it builds to WCAG 2.1 Level AA and supports semantic structure, keyboard operation, editable alt text for AI-generated images, reduced motion, and labeled forms. That gives churches a defined accessibility baseline, but uploaded documents and third-party embeds can still create problems beyond the platform's rendering engine.

All tiers include hosting, SSL, platform updates, security patching, and global delivery. Mainfolk says it does not sell personal information and identifies Stripe, Mailgun, Cloudflare, and its hosting provider as service vendors. Users can export pages, images, submissions, and subscribers on any plan, and a site remains on Free after cancellation. Those controls reduce the cost of trying the service, though a church remains responsible for accessibility issues introduced by its own content.

Pricing

The Free plan costs $0/month and includes a yourname.mainfolk.com address, unlimited edits, about 10 AI assists per month, community help, and a footer note. It is a credible way to build and maintain a modest site, but the branded address and limited AI assistance make it less suitable for a church seeking a fully branded public presence.

Launch costs $15/month, or $150/year with two months free. It adds a custom domain, two editors, more AI help, and email support. This is the sensible paid entry point for a small staff that needs its own domain and more than one editor; the two-editor ceiling may constrain larger teams.

Pro costs $29/month, or $290/year with two months free. It includes Launch features, nine editors, more AI help, visitor analytics, and priority support. Churches that want insight into referral sources, popular pages, visitor activity, and form messages get a meaningful step up, while those without a need for analytics can stay on Launch.

Civic costs $149/month, or $1,490/year with two months free. It includes Pro features, unlimited staff editors, up to 25 websites, an emergency alert banner, and free site migration. Its higher price is aimed at organizations managing multiple sites or needing broad staff access, not a single small congregation.

White-Glove Design is a one-time $199 for a team to design site pages, words, and photos; the ordinary plan price still applies. It can help a church that wants a designed starting point, but it does not replace the ongoing plan. There is no free trial; the Free plan provides the no-cost way to start. Free gets community help, Launch email support, and Pro priority support; Mainfolk says customers can talk to the platform's engineers.

Platforms

Mainfolk supports Android, iOS, and web. Its web builder and mobile platform availability give staff multiple ways to access the service, while the church site itself remains the central product.

Who it's for

Mainfolk fits small churches that want to publish church-specific information and handle routine edits in-house. Launch suits a church needing a custom domain and two editors; Pro is a better fit when analytics or a larger editing group matters. Civic makes more sense for multi-site organizations. Churches seeking a donation processor rather than website tools, or needing a highly customized agency-built site, should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pro: Church-focused page types cover practical needs such as sermons, events, ministries, and visitor planning.
Pro: Existing giving processors can be linked, letting the church keep its current provider.
Pro: Export is available on every plan, and sites continue on Free after cancellation.
Con: Free uses a Mainfolk subdomain and includes a footer note, so it is not the most polished option for a church wanting its own branded domain.
Con: Launch is capped at two editors and Pro at nine; teams needing unlimited staff access must pay for Civic.
Con: Customer-uploaded documents and third-party embeds can undermine accessibility despite the platform's stated WCAG 2.1 Level AA aim.

Alternatives

Browse Church Website Builders to compare church-focused site options. Planning Center is worth considering for a church that prioritizes its free Calendar, People, or Services tools, including a free Calendar plan for one room and a free People plan with an unlimited database and reporting. For donation processing, Tithely Giving offers a free giving plan with no monthly fees and unlimited donations, though transaction fees apply; Mainfolk instead links to an existing processor. Subsplash Church App has a free Subsplash Giving option with card and ACH processing fees, making it an alternative to evaluate when giving is the focus.

GrowMyWebsite is another freemium option for comparison. ChurchDev is a paid alternative with a $10/month Membership Directory plan plus a $99 setup fee. Congregate offers a paid Economy plan at $20/month with 5 GB storage, 15 email accounts, a public website and mobile app, and all Congregate features. Tithely Custom Church App costs $89/month and can be canceled at any time without penalty. ChurchSpring Live Streaming is another paid option to consider. For categories outside church software, the directory also covers Legal Marketing Software, Law Firm Website Builders, and Dental Website Builders.

Verdict

Mainfolk is a strong fit for a small church that wants to publish core church information, make quick staff edits, and retain its existing giving processor. The free tier lowers the barrier to starting, while Launch and Pro provide sensible upgrades for domain ownership, more editors, support, and analytics. Look elsewhere if the congregation needs a giving platform itself, if the team needs unlimited editors without Civic pricing, or if uploaded materials make accessibility assurance a central concern.
