Overview

Infor Public Sector is a cloud ERP for government agencies, utilities, and K–12 organizations that need finance and operational tools alongside public-service workflows. It is best suited to organizations seeking a broad system spanning administration, permitting, and field inspections. Its breadth is compelling, but custom pricing and configuration-dependent mobile access make it a less direct fit for buyers seeking a narrowly scoped or ready-priced product.

Key features

Finance and operations

The ERP covers financial management, budgeting and planning, procurement, human capital management, predictive analytics, process automation, and disaster preparedness. Restricted-fund tracking, grant management, and audit trails support public-sector financial controls. Multi-entity and multi-currency accounting, inventory and order management, and supplier management extend the system into purchasing and operations.

Manufacturing tools, work-in-progress tracking, production costing, shop-floor reporting, and multiple inventory valuation methods make the scope unusually broad for a public-sector product. Logistics planning and fulfillment management add further operational coverage. That range may suit organizations that want related functions in one system, though buyers should weigh it against the cost and complexity of adopting capabilities beyond their needs.

Permitting and public service

Community Development and Regulation brings together planning, permitting, licensing, inspections, and code enforcement. Its public-facing portal lets residents and customers handle licensing, permitting, and service tasks online, which can connect administrative workflows with public access rather than leaving those interactions entirely outside the ERP.

Field work and integration

Infor Field Inspector supports inspections and service requests on Android, Windows, and iOS. It can download a subset of data for offline use when configured to store that data on the device. That is useful for field staff working beyond reliable connectivity, but offline operation is conditional rather than automatic. Infor ION supports hybrid integrations between Infor and third-party applications in cloud or on-premises environments.

Cloud and security

Infor describes the public-sector ERP as cloud-based on AWS GovCloud and says it supports FedRAMP compliance. Infor Government Solutions runs securely configured CloudSuites on AWS GovCloud infrastructure managed by US Persons and supports FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, and ITAR frameworks. These assurances will matter to organizations with government security requirements. Infor also reports having more than 1,700 support experts.

Pricing

Infor Public Sector is paid software with custom pricing; contact Infor for details. No plan price or seat, quota, trial, or renewal terms are provided, so organizations should seek a proposal that spells out the relevant modules, deployment, implementation, and support costs before comparing budgets.

Platforms

Supported platforms are Android, iOS, Windows, web, API, and self-hosted. The ERP deployment option is cloud. Mobile offline use depends on configuring the app to retain selected data on the device.

Who it's for

Infor Public Sector is a strong candidate for government, utility, and K–12 organizations that need financial controls and procurement alongside permitting, inspections, and public-facing services. Its breadth can also appeal to organizations with inventory, manufacturing, or logistics operations. Buyers seeking only general accounting or a focused permitting tool may find the wider ERP scope unnecessary.

Pros and cons

Pros

Connects administrative and public-service workflows: Finance and procurement sit alongside permitting, licensing, inspections, code enforcement, and an online public portal.
Broad operational coverage: Multi-entity accounting, inventory, manufacturing, logistics, and fulfillment features can address needs beyond core finance.
Government-oriented cloud security: AWS GovCloud deployment and support for named government security frameworks address requirements that can rule out general-purpose systems.
Field inspections can work offline: Configured device storage lets inspectors use a subset of data without an internet connection.

Cons

Pricing requires a sales conversation: Without a published price, buyers cannot quickly assess affordability or compare equivalent configurations.
Offline access takes configuration: The app only works without a connection for data downloaded to the device, limiting the practical scope of field access.
Its breadth may exceed a focused buyer's needs: Organizations seeking only accounting or permitting may be taking on a broader ERP than necessary.

Alternatives

For a different accounting fit, consider Marg ERP, Xledger, or Workday Expenses. Marg ERP and Xledger are paid products, but their listed plan details differ: Marg's Nano and Basic Edition cap use at two users and two companies, while Xledger uses a monthly SaaS subscription plus a one-time implementation fee, with pricing based on business needs. Workday Expenses is paid and runs on Android, iOS, and web. These alternatives may suit buyers comparing different accounting or expense-management scopes, but their listed facts do not establish that they match Infor's public-sector permitting and field-work coverage.

Smaller organizations seeking a free or lower-commitment accounting starting point can compare BUSY, Beancount, FrontAccounting, GnuCash, or GNUKhata. BUSY has a free billing and accounting plan; the others are free accounting or bookkeeping products, with Beancount, FrontAccounting, GnuCash, and GNUKhata identified as open-source or free software. Choose among them when free accounting is the priority, not when the full public-sector ERP scope is required.

Verdict

Choose Infor Public Sector if your government, utility, or K–12 organization wants a cloud ERP that brings financial and operational management together with permitting, inspections, and public-facing services. Its most persuasive advantage is that unusually broad combination, backed by government-focused cloud security frameworks. Look elsewhere if you need only a narrow accounting or permitting product, or if you need a clear price before engaging a vendor.
