Overview

ServiceM8 brings job administration and team coordination together, with offline access for field work and a customer portal for customer interactions. Its maker, based in Darwin, Australia, says contractors worldwide use the platform to manage over $50 billion in jobs.

Android and iOS apps cover mobile teams, while ServiceM8 Desktop is available for Mac or PC. The mix suits businesses that need staff to work on phones in the field but want desktop access as well. Offline mode is a practical advantage when a job site has unreliable connectivity.

Key features

Managers can view staff locations and job progress, coordinate through messaging, and use activity feeds and timesheets to follow work and hours. Route optimization can help organize visits, while recurring jobs reduce the need to repeatedly set up routine work. These tools make ServiceM8 relevant to contractors coordinating multiple field staff; businesses seeking only basic invoicing may not need this broader operational layer.

ServiceM8 supports invoicing and card payments on site or online, including Tap to Pay on iPhone. A customer portal extends the workflow beyond the crew. Xero, QuickBooks Online and MYOB integrations connect job administration with accounting, while Mailchimp, Deputy, n8n, Zapier, add-ons and a REST API provide other connection options.

Two-step authentication and a 90-day account activity log add account safeguards. Paid plans include 24/7 chat and email support; help videos and partners are also available.

Pricing

ServiceM8 has a free plan, a 14-day trial and paid plans from $29 to $349 per month. Prices are in AUD and include GST; the homepage says there are no hidden fees or contracts. All paid plans include unlimited users, so the main step-up across tiers is monthly job and SMS capacity.

Plan	Price	Included limits	Best fit
Free	Free	1 user, 30 jobs per month, 10c per SMS	A solo contractor with light monthly volume.
Starter	$29 per month	Unlimited users, 50 jobs per month, 100+ SMS per month	A small team starting on paid service, if 50 jobs covers its workload.
Growing	$79 per month	Unlimited users, 150 jobs per month, 300+ SMS per month	A busier operation that has outgrown Starter's job allowance.
Premium	$149 per month	Unlimited users, 500 jobs per month, 1000+ SMS per month	A higher-volume team needing more monthly capacity.
Premium Plus	$349 per month	Unlimited users, 1500+ jobs per month, 3000+ SMS per month	A business with substantial monthly job and messaging volume.

The free tier's one-user cap makes it unsuitable for a working crew, and its 30-job ceiling constrains even a solo business as volume grows. Starter removes the seat limit but still caps work at 50 jobs monthly; higher tiers are chiefly for teams whose job and SMS usage exceed the cheaper plan allowances.

Platforms

ServiceM8 supports Android, iOS and macOS, with a separate desktop app for Mac or PC. Mobile coverage on both Android and iOS gives field teams access across the two major phone platforms.

Who it's for

ServiceM8 is a good fit for contractors who need to coordinate staff, recurring jobs and customer billing, especially when offline work, route planning or accounting integration matters. A one-person business with fewer than 30 jobs a month can start free; a multi-person team must move to paid service, though paid plans do not impose a user cap. Businesses with job volumes beyond the listed Premium Plus allowance should compare their expected workload before choosing a tier.

Pros and cons

Pros

Unlimited users on every paid plan lets a growing crew share the service without per-seat restrictions stated for those tiers.
Offline mode, route optimization and staff-location visibility address practical field-team coordination needs.
Invoicing, several card-payment options and integrations with Xero, QuickBooks Online and MYOB connect field work to customer payments and accounting.

Cons

The free plan is limited to one user and 30 jobs per month, making it a narrow fit for a solo operator with rising demand.
Starter is capped at 50 jobs per month despite unlimited users, so adding staff does not raise the job allowance.
The listed prices and GST terms are in AUD, which may make the cost less straightforward for businesses budgeting in another currency.

Alternatives

ReachOut Suite is worth comparing for a business that wants a freemium option: its free plan allows 25 jobs and includes limited work orders, inspections, invoices and quotes. Salesforce Field Service is a paid alternative with a Dispatcher plan at $175.00 USD per month, billed annually, including AI-powered scheduling and route optimization; consider it if those stated capabilities are a priority and the annual USD commitment fits.

Zuper and Zinier are paid field-service alternatives for readers comparing other web and mobile options. Acumatica Field Service uses custom pricing based on applications, expected usage and resources, and deployment preferences, making it an option for buyers who want that pricing approach. BigChange offers plans by request that include support, CRM, job scheduling, mobile app, live tracking, quotes and invoices, business intelligence and collaboration.

Spoors may suit readers seeking a freemium task platform: its free plan includes 1,000 tasks per month, while Basic costs $12.00 USD per month. Praxedo has paid Basic and Advanced plans at $39.00 USD and $69.00 USD per month respectively, each with a five-user minimum; that minimum matters for smaller teams comparing entry costs.

Verdict

ServiceM8 is a strong choice for contractors that need field-team coordination and job-to-payment workflows, particularly when offline access and accounting connections matter. Its unlimited-user paid plans support team use, but businesses with modest needs may find the free plan's 30-job cap restrictive, while larger-volume operators should weigh the monthly job ceilings against their workload before committing.
