Overview

HiPDF is an online service for converting, editing and organizing PDFs, with OCR and AI tools alongside its document utilities. It suits people who want a broad PDF toolkit in a browser, especially those who regularly convert or process batches of files. Its range is a strength, but the free converter’s 20 MB cap and paid-plan quotas matter if your work involves larger documents or frequent AI use.

Key features

Conversion, OCR and document management

HiPDF converts files to PDF and PDFs to formats including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, images, HTML and text. Its supported targets also include EPUB, RTF and Publisher. OCR turns scanned PDFs into editable Word documents, and batch processing handles multiple files. Together, these features make HiPDF a practical fit for recurring document conversion, rather than just occasional one-off exports.

The service also covers editing, merging, compression, splitting, image extraction, page rearrangement, protection, unlocking, redaction, signing and sharing. A DOC-to-PDF workflow can open files from Dropbox or cloud storage and save converted PDFs to the cloud. The free converter accepts files up to 20 MB; paid plans raise the maximum to 100 MB and allow up to 2,000 pages per file. That is a meaningful upgrade for larger documents, though the page ceiling remains relevant for lengthy scans.

AI tools, API and security

HiPDF’s AI features include PDF chat, translation, proofreading, AI detection, mind maps, reading, rewriting, explanations and question answering. Their usefulness depends on plan quotas: annual Basic includes 50 uses each for Chat with PDF/AI Reader and AI Detector, while Advanced includes 1,000 of each. The separate monthly AI plan provides 1,000 uses.

For developers and higher-volume workflows, HiPDF offers API subscriptions, prepaid pricing and custom or high-volume plans by quote. Monthly and annual API subscribers get their first 200 files per month free. HiPDF says uploaded files are permanently deleted within 60 minutes after processing and cites PDF Association membership, ISO 27001 and SSI SECURE certifications.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and provides limited access to most PDF and image tools; the converter page sets a 20 MB file cap. It is suitable for light use, but not a substitute for paid batch processing and higher file limits.

Basic costs 39.95 USD per year, billed annually. It includes web access, OCR, batch processing, a 100 MB maximum file size and 2,000 pages per file. The Basic Plan also includes 50 Chat with PDF/AI Reader uses and 50 AI Detector uses. This is the more restrained paid option for conversion and document work, but its AI allowances are modest.

Advanced costs 69.95 USD per year, billed annually. It adds AI PDF tools to the Basic feature set, with 1,000 Chat with PDF/AI Reader uses and 1,000 AI Detector uses. It is the better fit for regular AI-assisted PDF work; users who mainly need conversion may not benefit enough from the additional cost.

AI Monthly costs 3.99 USD per month, billed monthly, and provides web access and 1,000 uses. It automatically renews, though cancellation is available anytime. This plan fits readers who want a monthly AI allowance without the annual commitment, but the plan’s listed benefits are narrower than the annual document plans.

HiPDF also offers a Basic 7-Day Access trial for 0.95 USD once, then automatically renews at US$ 39.95 per year after 7 days. It includes 2,000 pages, 100 MB files, unlimited batch processing, and PDF editing and download tools. Advanced 7-Day Access costs 1.95 USD once, then renews at US$ 69.95 per year after 7 days; it adds Chat with PDF, AI Reader and AI Detector. These are short paid trials, so the renewal price and timing deserve attention before signing up.

The HiPDF API Subscription costs 28.00 USD per month, billed monthly, with the first 200 files per month free for monthly and annual subscribers. Custom or high-volume API plans are available by quote. This is aimed at integrations and sustained processing, not ordinary personal PDF editing.

Platforms

HiPDF is a web service, and the platform range also includes Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, an extension and API access. That breadth gives users multiple ways to reach the service, while the paid plan benefits described here are centered on web access.

Who it's for

HiPDF is best for people who need conversion, OCR, batch processing and PDF management in one service, with AI features as an optional extension. The annual Basic plan suits document-heavy users who do not need large AI quotas; Advanced is more appropriate when PDF chat and related AI tools are part of regular work. It is a weaker fit for occasional users whose files stay small and whose needs are covered by the free plan, or for AI users who do not need the broader document features.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad conversion support, OCR and batch processing cover both scanned documents and recurring file workflows.
Pros: Editing, organization, sharing and cloud storage workflows extend beyond format conversion.
Pros: Paid plans raise the file cap to 100 MB and support up to 2,000 pages per file.
Cons: The free converter’s 20 MB cap limits its usefulness for larger documents.
Cons: Basic’s AI quotas are only 50 uses each for PDF chat/reading and detection; regular AI users need Advanced or the monthly plan.
Cons: The low-cost 7-day access offers renew automatically at annual prices after the trial period.

Alternatives

LightPDF is worth considering if a free web plan with a 10 MB file cap, five cloud files for one year and three daily AI questions is enough for your needs. Choose HiPDF instead when its OCR, batch conversion or higher paid file limit better matches your workload.

PDF Candy offers a free web and desktop plan, but its free tier has page and hourly restrictions, no batch processing and a limited file size. HiPDF’s paid batch processing is the stronger fit when handling files in groups matters.

Smallpdf provides 30 tools for free and a 7-day free trial. Consider it if that free-tool access suits your needs; HiPDF is the more relevant choice when OCR and batch conversion are priorities.

PDF24 Compare PDF is a free option with no limits, registration or time restrictions, and is a focused alternative when comparing PDFs is the need.

AvePDF offers 50+ document tools, but its free plan allows two processing operations every six hours, up to 128 MB per file and 10 files per processing. It may suit users whose occasional processing fits those limits; HiPDF has a clearer paid path for recurring batch work.

PDFgear is free and allows PDFs up to 100 MB in its online editor. It is an alternative for users seeking that free online editing cap, while HiPDF adds OCR and batch conversion.

iLovePDF offers a free tier with limited tools and document processing, plus a Premium plan.

CoolUtils Online PDF Merger is a free alternative for PDF merging.

Verdict

Choose HiPDF if you want conversion, OCR, batch processing and PDF management under one roof, with AI tools available when needed. Basic makes sense for document work with light AI use; Advanced is the stronger choice for higher AI quotas. Look elsewhere if the free 20 MB cap is enough for your occasional tasks, or if you want to avoid an annual plan and its renewal terms.
