Overview

HeyGen is a video creation platform for people who want to turn scripts, media, or presentations into avatar-led videos. It suits creators and teams producing explanatory or localized content; its range of inputs and editable output are useful, but the free allowance is small for steady publishing.

Cloud and mobile deployment, plus Android, iOS, web, and API access, give it room to fit different workflows. The platform can also be tried without a credit card, with limited access to premium features.

Key features

HeyGen accepts text, images, audio, and PPT or PDF files as starting points, alongside AI avatars. That breadth is valuable when a team works from varied materials, rather than only writing scripts for video. AI Studio keeps generated motion elements editable for text, color, timing, and layout, so users can refine a clip after generation instead of treating the render as final. Many videos are generated within a minute, though complex ones can take a few minutes.

Avatar lip-sync and translation support more than 175 languages and dialects, making the platform a strong fit for producing localized versions. Custom avatars require on-camera identity verification from the person depicted, an important safeguard that also adds a step to avatar creation.

Team tools include comments, tagging, multi-user editing, workspace collaboration, and task management. Business plans integrate with n8n, Make, HubSpot, Zapier, and LMS platforms. Business and Enterprise add centralized billing, role management, SSO, and SCIM provisioning, which matter more to managed teams than solo creators. Security markers include GDPR, SOC 2 Type II, CCPA, AI Act, and DPF compliance; HeyGen also describes annual penetration testing, vulnerability management, and continuous monitoring.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, billed monthly. It allows three videos per month, each up to one minute, with 500+ stock video avatars and one custom video avatar. This is enough to explore the workflow, but the monthly count and duration are tight for recurring production.

Creator is 29.00 USD per month, billed monthly, or Creator Annual at 24.00 USD per month, billed annually. Both provide 600 credits per month; Creator includes videos up to 30 minutes, 1080p export, and 175+ languages and dialects. The annual option lowers the monthly price but requires annual billing. Creator is the practical step up for individuals who need longer videos and regular output, though it gives up Pro's 4K export.

Pro is 49.00 USD per month, billed monthly, with 1,000 credits per month, videos up to 30 minutes, and 4K export. It fits creators for whom higher resolution justifies the higher price; the duration cap remains the same as Creator's.

Business is 149.00 USD per month, with 1,500 credits per month, videos up to 60 minutes, 4K export, and additional seats at $20 per seat per month. It is aimed at teams needing longer videos and team administration, but seat costs can add up. Enterprise has custom pricing, no maximum video duration, 4K export, SCIM provisioning, priority support, and customer success management; it is the tier for organizations needing those controls and support. Paid plans include live chat support. Cancellation stops renewal, while paid features and credits remain until the billing cycle ends.

Platforms

HeyGen is available on Android, iOS, and web, with API access for workflows that call for integration. It supports cloud and mobile deployment. The platform also offers a ChatGPT plugin; listed integrations include Vimeo, Salesforce, Slack, Google Drive, Notion, and Vercel, alongside the Business integrations noted above.

Who it's for

HeyGen is best suited to solo creators, small businesses, and larger teams that need avatar-based video, multilingual lip-sync or translation, and the ability to edit generated elements. Its company-size fit spans solo through enterprise. A person making occasional short clips may find the free cap restrictive, while a team that only needs simple photo animation may not need the breadth of a video platform.

Pros and cons

Pros: Multiple input types and editable motion elements support varied production workflows and post-generation refinements.
Pros: Support for more than 175 languages and dialects is useful for teams localizing avatar videos.
Pros: Business and Enterprise include administrative controls, with Business integrations for common automation and CRM workflows.
Cons: The free plan's three monthly videos and one-minute limit leave little room for regular publishing.
Cons: Creator and Pro both cap videos at 30 minutes; longer work requires Business or Enterprise.
Cons: Business seats cost extra, and Enterprise uses custom pricing, making team costs less straightforward than individual tiers.

Verdict

Choose HeyGen if you need avatar-led video production with multiple source formats, editable output, and substantial language coverage in one platform. Its clearest advantage is that breadth paired with team controls at higher tiers. Look elsewhere if three short videos a month are insufficient but paid plans are beyond budget, or if your work needs only a narrower animation tool.
