Overview

Geektastic is a technical assessment service for teams hiring software engineers, with short multiple-choice screens and take-home coding challenges. It is best for employers who want human feedback on submitted code; its main trade-off is that take-home use combines a monthly platform charge with per-review fees.

Key features

Express challenges take around 30 minutes, while take-home tasks take about two hours. That gives hiring teams a faster initial screen and a more substantial coding exercise, but the take-home format demands considerably more candidate time.

A human review team evaluates take-home submissions and provides detailed feedback. Geektastic aims to return reviews within 24 hours, although heavy volumes can extend that to 48 hours. Teams can also have their own challenges ported to the platform and reviewed against tailored guidelines, useful when standard questions do not fit a role but subject to a one-time setup fee.

Supported areas span JavaScript, Java, PHP, Python, C#, Swift, Android, AWS, Terraform, Ansible and CI/CD. Greenhouse, Lever and Workable integrations allow invitations and results to be handled through an ATS, though that convenience costs extra. Geektastic says reviews are anonymous and that it is GDPR compliant, uses SSL encryption and does not store passwords in plain text. All plans include 24/7 support.

Pricing

The free Express tier includes 50 assessed candidates per month and two seats. Beyond that cap, Express additional candidates cost 3.00 USD per once, billed per candidate. Extra Express seats cost 50.00 USD per once per admin or recruiter seat; the two included seats make the free tier workable for small hiring groups, but larger teams pay to expand access.

Take-home assessments have a higher and less predictable cost structure. The platform fee is 350.00 USD per month when using the take-home platform, including two admin seats; code reviewers are free. Each human review then costs 95.00 USD per once. A code challenge licence costs 70.00 USD per month per challenge, plus $7 each use. Extra take-home admin seats cost 50.00 USD per once, while code reviewers remain free. This setup suits teams that value expert review, but recurring platform and challenge fees matter even before per-submission costs.

Custom and integration charges are separate: porting an Express challenge costs 65.00 USD per once, bespoke Express challenge creation costs 195.00 USD per once, and ATS integration costs 130.00 USD per month. Geektastic offers a free plan and a free trial, but the Express candidate cap and take-home fees are the key budgeting constraints.

Platforms

Geektastic is available on web and through an API. Its ATS integrations connect the assessment workflow with Greenhouse, Lever and Workable.

Who it's for

Geektastic is aimed at hiring teams assessing software engineering candidates, especially those that want expert evaluation and detailed feedback on take-home code. Developers can also join its global community. It is less suited to employers seeking a low-cost, fully self-serve take-home process, since platform access and each human review are charged separately.

Pros and cons

Pros: Two assessment formats cover quick screening and deeper coding work; human feedback adds context beyond a score; teams can use custom challenges; anonymous reviews and named ATS integrations support hiring workflows.
Cons: Take-home work takes candidates around two hours; the review fee is charged per submission on top of a monthly platform fee; the free Express tier stops at 50 candidates per month, with additional candidates billed individually.

Alternatives

For a broader Coding Assessment Platforms comparison or a Pre-Employment Assessment Software shortlist, start with those categories. Choose CodeSignal if a free individual learning tier, practice-based paths and broad Android, iOS, web and API access matter. Savyre is an option for teams seeking IDE-based assessment invites through VS Code or Cursor alongside a web service. Consider CodeInterview for a free tier with two interviews per month and unlimited users. CodePanion has beta access limited to select founding companies, with acceptance at its discretion. CoderScreen offers a free Basic plan with monthly live interview and assessment invite limits, plus self-hosted availability. TalentsAccess is worth considering for a free Starter tier supporting up to 50 assessments per month and coding challenges in 40+ languages. HackerEarth Assessments may fit teams whose free plan's five test invites, three interview invites and two admins cover their needs. Hirevoult offers per-assessment pricing at 6.00 USD per once and includes AI-generated question types and proctoring.

Verdict

Choose Geektastic if your hiring team needs human-reviewed take-home submissions, detailed feedback and the option to tailor challenges. Look elsewhere if the monthly take-home platform fee and per-review charges do not fit your volume or budget; the free Express tier is a more contained starting point for teams screening up to 50 candidates each month.
