Overview

Fotor is a photo editor and design suite with AI image-generation tools, aimed at individuals and businesses making images and marketing materials. Its breadth is useful when photo cleanup, promotional graphics, and generated visuals belong in one workflow, though the free plan has tight storage and generation limits.

Key features

Editing and design

Fotor covers practical fixes such as cropping, resizing, enhancement, portrait retouching, background and object removal, unblurring, upscaling, and restoration. Batch editing, layers, masking, cloud sync, and AI retouching extend the toolkit beyond one-off adjustments. That range suits users who want both routine correction and more involved image work in the same service; it is less compelling for someone seeking only a narrow, specialized editor.

Customizable templates, stickers, clipart, fonts, and text effects let users turn edited images into composed graphics. The combination is useful for social posts and other designed assets without switching tools, although the available facts do not establish how far layout customization goes.

AI and commercial visuals

Text-to-image generation, AI headshots, and AI face generation add ways to create imagery rather than just refine existing photos. Fotor also positions its tools for product images, model visuals, multi-scene listings, product videos, and advertising or social media assets. That makes it relevant to small commercial content workflows as well as personal editing. An API offering is also linked for content-focused businesses.

Fotor says its app connects to third-party generation models including Veo, Nano Banana, Kling, Seedance, Hailuo, FLUX, Wan, Qwen, Midjourney, Seedream, Classic, and Pixverse. Prompts and images are sent to the selected provider when a user chooses that engine. Personal information is described as encrypted and stored where the service is hosted; AIGC inputs and outputs remain on AWS servers in the USA until deletion by the user or account closure. Fotor says face data is used only for AI Avatar features and not to train other AI products. These terms matter to anyone handling sensitive images or prompts.

Pricing

Free plans

Fotor Basic is 0.00 USD per free, billed Free forever. It allows 1 concurrent generation, 50 AI Agent chats, 1 AI Agent task, 30-day creation storage, and 512MB cloud storage. A separate Basic plan is also 0.00 USD per free, billed Free forever, with limited free credits, the same generation and agent quotas, 512MB cloud storage, 100 project folders, and normal JPG/PNG/PDF export. These caps make the free tier a sensible way to try the editor or handle occasional work, but not a strong fit for frequent AI creation or a large project library.

Paid plans

Fotor Pro has custom pricing and provides 10 concurrent generations, 2,000 AI Agent chats, 2 AI Agent tasks, and 2GB cloud storage. Pro+ has custom pricing with 30 concurrent generations, 4,000 chats, 5 tasks, and 100GB storage. Max has custom pricing, is billed annually, and raises those quotas to 50 concurrent generations, 10,000 chats, 10 tasks, and 500GB storage. A separate Pro+ plan is described as billed annually with the same 30-generation, 4,000-chat, 5-task, and 100GB limits; a separate Pro plan is billed annually with the same limits as Pro. The higher tiers suit heavier AI use and larger storage needs, but the stated quotas do not establish which plan is best for every workflow.

Fotor provides a Help Center for support.

Platforms

Fotor identifies its editor as online and browser-based, with photo editing available on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. It also lists web, macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, and API as platforms, so it can serve users working across desktop and mobile environments.

Who it's for

Fotor is best suited to individuals who want editing, design templates, and AI image creation together, and to businesses producing product and marketing visuals. The free plan can cover light use, while its storage and generation caps make paid tiers more appropriate for sustained production. Users who need larger quotas should weigh the custom pricing against the workload before committing.

Pros and cons

Pros: Editing, AI creation, and design assets sit in one service, reducing the need to split basic visual work across separate tools.
Pros: Batch editing, layers, masking, and cloud sync support more than simple single-image touch-ups.
Cons: The free options impose limited credits or low storage and generation quotas, restricting regular or high-volume use.
Cons: AI prompts and images go to the selected third-party model provider, and generated inputs and outputs are stored in the USA until deletion or account closure.
Cons: Paid plans have custom pricing, making cost comparison difficult before selecting a tier.

Alternatives

For a simpler photo-editing option, BeFunky offers a free plan with basic editing, limited templates and assets, and export without a subscription; its Plus plan is 6.99 USD per month. It may suit someone who wants a lower-priced paid option for that narrower stated toolkit.

For thumbnail-focused work, Thumio is a web and extension option with a free tier allowing 3 Thumio Scores per day and up to 2 YouTube channels; generation requires credits. Its Creator plan is 19.00 USD per month. Thumblore is another web alternative, with a free plan that starts with 100 credits, about 5 thumbnails, one saved avatar, and exports bearing its badge.

If video editing is the priority, CapCut has free templates and basic editing in a mobile-focused free tier, with a Pro plan that includes 100 GB cloud storage. Adobe Express Video offers a free tier with 25 generative credits per month, more than 155,000 templates, and 5 GB storage.

ThumbPocket provides a free editor and a 9.99 EUR one-time top-up for 120 credits, at one credit per AI generation. Simplified has a free plan with 1GB storage and a Starter plan at 79.00 USD per month. ThumbnailMake offers 3 free thumbnails per day with no credit card required and a small corner mark, plus a 19.90 USD per month Starter plan.

Readers comparing category-specific tools can also browse Video Thumbnail Makers, AI Photo Editors, Photo Editing Software, AI Image Expanders, Album Cover Maker Software, and HDR Software.

Verdict

Choose Fotor if you want one broad workspace for photo editing, design, and AI-generated visuals, especially for recurring product or marketing content. Look elsewhere if predictable paid pricing, generous free quotas, or avoiding third-party AI processing matters more than having those tools together.
