Overview

Fedena is a school management platform for institutions that want academic and administrative operations under one system. It suits schools, colleges, universities and coaching centres; its broad module range and hosted or self-hosted deployment are compelling, provided the chosen plan covers the institution’s needs.

Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Bengaluru, India, Fedena reports use by more than 40,000 schools and colleges across more than 200 countries, with support for 20 languages. Institutions comparing School Management Software, Student Information Systems or Course Registration Software should weigh its wide operational scope against the need to select the right modules and hosting model.

Key features

Fedena spans admissions and enrollment, fee management, payroll, examinations, gradebooks, attendance, assignments, courses, transportation, libraries and communication. Parent portal support connects families with school information, while the combination of student-facing academic tools and back-office functions can make it a practical fit for institutions seeking one system across those workflows.

The product is web-based, so it requires no software installation. Branded iOS and Android apps serve parents, teachers and students, extending access beyond the browser. Fedena offers up to 20 integrations, including biometric, location, payment gateway and online-class connections; named options include Tally, Google SSO, Azure, Paybooks, QuickBooks, Google Meet and BigBlueButton. Its API can let external applications read or enter Fedena data and connect with systems such as attendance hardware.

Schools can use Fedena as a service hosted on Foradian servers or run a self-hosted version on their own server. That choice accommodates different deployment preferences, though institutions considering self-hosting should factor their own server environment into the decision. Fedena says school data remains fully encrypted while stored in its system. Support includes 24/7 customer service, online and on-site assistance, and on-demand or webinar-based training.

Pricing

Fedena uses a freemium model, with a free basic version offered as open-source code and a 14-day trial. The paid plans are billed yearly and include unlimited users, one-to-one online training, automatic updates, email and phone support, and onboarding data and configuration. The main distinction is module access, so schools should match their required workflows to the plan before committing.

Standard: 999.00 USD per year. Includes 20 Core Modules and 17 Standard Modules. It is the entry paid tier for institutions that can work within those module groups.
Premium: 1399.00 USD per year. Adds 10 Premium Modules to the Standard inclusions, making it the step up for schools that need those additional functions.
Ultimate: 1699.00 USD per year. Adds 12 Ultimate Modules to the Premium package, for institutions that need the broadest published module set.
Enterprise: custom pricing. It includes the same published module counts as Ultimate and adds product source code, which may matter to institutions seeking that level of access.

The free version provides open-source code, while the paid plans specify training, support and onboarding alongside module access. The published plan summaries do not identify which individual functions sit in each module group, so the appropriate tier depends on confirming that its included modules cover the school’s requirements.

Platforms

Fedena supports web, Android, iOS, API access and self-hosted deployment. The browser-based product avoids installation, while mobile apps offer a dedicated route for parents, teachers and students. API access and self-hosting are useful considerations for institutions integrating external systems or preferring their own servers.

Who it's for

Fedena is aimed at schools, colleges, universities and coaching centres, including government and private institutions. Its admissions, fee, attendance, gradebook and transport functions cover common school operations, while payroll, libraries, examinations and communications extend its reach across administration and academics. It is a stronger fit for institutions wanting a broad system and willing to choose a module tier than for those seeking a narrowly scoped tool.

Pros and cons

Pros: Wide coverage across academic and administrative work can consolidate many school workflows in one platform.
Pros: Hosted and self-hosted options give institutions a choice about where the system runs.
Pros: Mobile apps for parents, teachers and students, plus API access and up to 20 integrations, support access and connections beyond the core web product.
Pros: Paid plans include unlimited users, onboarding, updates, training and email and phone support.
Cons: Paid module access increases by tier, so institutions must establish which package contains the functions they need.
Cons: Enterprise requires custom pricing, making it harder to compare its cost directly with the annual-priced tiers.

Alternatives

openSIS is another freemium option with a free plan and web, iOS and Android support; consider it if those platform and pricing characteristics better match your shortlist.

Classter uses custom pricing based on institution size, type and selected features or modules, and has no free plan. It may suit institutions comfortable with a tailored quote rather than a free entry option.

Gradelink has no free plan and supports Android, iOS, macOS, web and Windows. Its Gradelink Payments plan is 0.00 USD per month, with transaction fees potentially covered by the school or passed to families; SmartSend Pro is an add-on at 16.67 USD per month.

Aeries SIS is a paid option supporting Android, iOS, macOS, self-hosted, web and Windows, with district pricing available by contacting sales for a quote.

Infinite Campus is a paid option with Android, API, iOS and web support. iSAMS, Rediker AdminPlus and Skyward Qmlativ are also paid options with web, iOS and Android support.

Verdict

Fedena is a strong candidate for schools and other educational institutions that want academic and administrative functions in one system, backed by mobile apps, integrations and a choice of hosting. Its main reason to look elsewhere is the need to pin down module coverage and tier fit before purchase; institutions that want straightforward plan comparison should consider that trade-off carefully.
