Overview

Faithful has been a community project since 2010, built around refining Minecraft’s original textures rather than replacing their visual identity. It supports both Java and Bedrock Edition, and can be installed on computers, phones, and certain consoles. Community-made add-ons broaden coverage across editions and versions, useful for players whose setup does not match a single standard release.

The project is open source, with its textures and related-project code available on GitHub. A public RESTful API serves the texture database and add-on submissions, among other functions. Faithful says it collects personal information only when someone explicitly provides it.

Key features

Two resolutions, a restrained visual direction

Faithful 64x remakes default Minecraft art at four times the resolution while keeping a vanilla-style experience. It is the clearest choice for players who want sharper familiar textures rather than a new art direction. Faithful 32x takes a more modern, detailed approach, with a limited palette and an emphasis on consistency. The range of resolutions and styles offers some flexibility, but Faithful remains a refinement of Minecraft’s established look, not a dramatic redesign.

Community-led development and reuse

Textures are publicly voted on before joining Faithful, and anyone may submit work to any project without strings attached. That open contribution model gives players a way to participate, while public voting provides a community filter for additions. The license permits use, modification, and distribution in Minecraft and non-Minecraft projects, but reuse requires credit, a website link, and including or linking the license. It also bars paywalled Faithful content, monetized download links, cryptocurrency or NFT projects, and training AI models or neural networks on the work. Those terms matter for creators considering redistribution or adaptation.

Pricing

Faithful Resource Pack costs 0.00 USD per free, with no payment required. The plan includes Java and Bedrock Edition, computers, phones, and certain consoles, and provides 64x textures and custom interface art. There is no paid tier to weigh against it; players get the central pack without a subscription, while the practical choice is whether its visual approach and license fit their needs.

Platforms

Faithful supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows, and can be installed on certain consoles as well. The pack supports Java version 26.3 and Bedrock version 26.x. Add-ons cover a wider variety of editions and versions, but the core plan’s stated version support is narrower, so players on other releases may need to look to community add-ons.

Who it's for

Choose Faithful if you want higher-resolution Minecraft textures that still read as vanilla, or if you value an open project with community contributions and a route to build add-ons. It is less suited to players who want a radically different art style, and creators who cannot meet its attribution and distribution rules should not adapt or redistribute its work.

Pros and cons

Pro: The free 64x pack supports both Java and Bedrock, making a sharper vanilla-style look available across both editions without a recurring charge.
Pro: Public voting and unrestricted submissions give the community a direct role in texture development.
Pro: Open-source textures and project code, plus a public API, make the project relevant to contributors and developers as well as players.
Con: The visual goal is intentionally close to default Minecraft, so players after a substantial art-style change should look elsewhere.
Con: Reuse comes with attribution and distribution conditions, including prohibitions on paywalls, monetized downloads, and AI training.

Verdict

Faithful is an easy recommendation for Java and Bedrock players who want more texture detail while keeping Minecraft’s recognizable style, especially at no cost. Its open community model adds value for contributors, but the license’s attribution and distribution rules are a real constraint for anyone adapting or sharing the work.
