Overview

Harvest is a time-tracking and invoicing product for teams that need to connect recorded work to billing. Its strongest case is combining time entry, expense-based invoicing, and team administration; the small free allowance makes it a limited test for teams rather than a lasting free option.

It covers project tracking, billable time, timesheet approvals, and data export. Harvest says more than 70,000 businesses trust it. The maker was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Milan, Italy; its copyright names Bending Spoons Operations S.p.A. Related categories include Time Tracking Software, Time and Expense Software, Time Billing Software, and Employee Time Tracking Software.

Key features

Time entry and billing

One-click timers, timesheets, and calendar imports give teams several ways to capture hours. Offline tracking can help when a connection is unavailable, and data export provides a way to take records elsewhere. Tracked time and expenses can become invoices with online payment options, a useful link between delivery records and billing. Teams needing only a basic time log may find the invoicing scope unnecessary.

Team administration

Approvals, permissions, roles, rates, and capacity planning give managers tools to review submitted time and coordinate team workload. Harvest also connects with accounting services including Stripe, QuickBooks Online, Xero, and Deel. The homepage describes 40+ integrations, while its pricing comparison says 50+ core integrations, so the broader integration count is not consistent across those descriptions.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and is billed $0 forever. It is aimed at individual freelancers, with 1 seat and 2 projects; that cap rules it out for a growing team or anyone managing more projects. A 30-day trial is available without a credit card, but the trial account is deactivated if it is not upgraded when the period ends.

Teams costs 11.00 USD per month on monthly billing and includes unlimited seats. Teams annual costs 9.00 USD per month, billed $108 per seat, billed annually. Annual billing gives a 20% discount, but commits the buyer to a per-seat annual charge; monthly billing costs more and has a 30-day free trial.

Enterprise monthly costs 17.50 USD per month and includes unlimited seats; Enterprise annual costs 14.00 USD per month, billed $168 per seat, billed annually. These plans are for teams with advanced reporting and administrative needs, making the higher price most relevant to organizations that need that additional scope. Enterprise Plus has custom pricing and adds custom integrations, product customization, a dedicated Customer Success Manager, custom onboarding and training, assisted data migration, and white labelling for organizations that need a tailored deployment.

Paid plans support credit card billing monthly or yearly. Teams with 10 or more seats can pay by ACH or bank transfer on yearly billing. Teams with 50 or more seats can request a personalized consultation. Paid team plans list scheduled phone support.

Platforms

Harvest is available on Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows, with mobile apps for both major mobile platforms and a desktop app. That spread suits teams working across phones and computers rather than a single-device setup.

Who it's for

Harvest is best suited to professional teams that want time tracking, approvals, and invoicing tied together, especially when managers need permissions, capacity planning, and roles and rates. A solo freelancer can start on Free, but the single seat and two-project maximum leave little room to expand. Teams that only need a broader free allowance or a narrow invoicing tool should consider alternatives.

Pros and cons

Pro: Timers, timesheets, and calendar imports feed a workflow that can turn tracked time and expenses into invoices with online payments.
Pro: Approvals, permissions, capacity planning, roles, and rates give managers concrete administrative controls.
Pro: The 30-day trial needs no credit card, and yearly Teams billing is 20% less than monthly billing.
Con: Free is restricted to 1 seat and 2 projects, too narrow for most multi-person teams.
Con: The lower Teams annual rate requires paying $108 per seat annually; monthly billing is 11.00 USD per month.
Con: The 30-day trial account is deactivated unless upgraded, so it is not a continuing free workspace.

Alternatives

TimeCamp is worth considering when unlimited users and projects on a free-forever plan matter more than Harvest's specified 1-seat, 2-project free cap.
Zoho Books may suit solopreneurs and micro businesses that qualify for its free plan, which remains available while annual revenue stays below $50K and includes 1 user and 1 account.
Avaza is an alternative with a free plan that includes unlimited project collaborators, alongside limited timesheet/expense, admin/finance, and resource scheduling users.
Invoice Ninja is a fit when invoicing is the priority: its free plan allows 5 clients and unlimited invoicing, while Ninja Pro costs 14.00 USD per month.
Miru is another freemium alternative with a free plan and trial.
Zoho Invoice is free for Indian businesses and supports up to two users, three projects, and 500 invoices per year.
Paymo offers a free plan for one user, one client, two projects, and 1 GB of storage, a possible fit for a tightly scoped solo workflow.
TMetric is an option for a small team that can work within its free plan of up to 2 seats.

Verdict

Choose Harvest if a professional team wants one workflow for time capture, team oversight, and invoicing from tracked time and expenses. Its range of entry methods and administrative controls make that combination its clearest advantage. Look elsewhere if the free tier must support more than one person or two projects, or if committing to per-seat annual billing is a poor fit.
