Overview

Zeller brings together business payments, accounts, cards, invoicing and financial reporting. The account, app and dashboard are free, and the POS software has no monthly subscription or licence fee. That makes it a practical option for businesses trying to keep fixed costs down, provided they account for payment fees and, for POS, a required Zeller Terminal.

Zeller is headquartered in Melbourne, Australia. Its UK provider, Zeller UK Limited, says it is authorised by the FCA for payment services and safeguards customer funds in segregated accounts. Zeller Business Accounts are not covered by the FSCS, an important distinction for businesses weighing where to hold operating funds.

Key features

Zeller accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, eftpos, JCB, UnionPay, Apple Pay and Google Pay. In-person Visa and Mastercard payments cost 1.3%; other cards cost 1.99%. Businesses whose customers often pay with cards outside those two networks should budget for the higher rate rather than rely on the headline price.

Online invoicing allows unlimited invoices without a monthly subscription fee. For payments taken remotely, the browser-based virtual terminal supports keyed card payments and free payment links. These tools suit businesses that need to collect money without a monthly invoicing charge, though card processing fees still apply.

The POS includes item and inventory management, receipt and kitchen docket printing, discounts, refunds and real-time sales reporting. It is free to run, but requires a Zeller Terminal and transaction fees apply. Kitchen display, tabs, table mapping, inventory tracking and complex order routing are marked as coming soon, so venues that depend on those workflows should not treat them as current capabilities.

Zeller Bank Feeds imports transactions from a Zeller Business Account into a Xero organisation, reducing manual transfer of account activity for businesses using Xero. Named third-party POS integrations include Zii, Oracle Simphony, Tevalis and Redcat. Zeller says its payment systems encrypt card data during processing and follow PCI DSS standards. Customer support is available 24/7 by phone, email and SMS.

Pricing

The Zeller Business Account, app and dashboard cost 0.00 GBP per free: there are no monthly fees or subscriptions, no minimum balance, unlimited free accounts and free transfers. This is the best fit for businesses that want a no-monthly-cost account and can use Zeller's other services as needed.

Zeller POS costs 0.00 GBP per free to download and run, with no monthly subscription or software licence fee. The trade-off is that it requires a Zeller Terminal and payment processing fees apply. Zeller Terminal 1x costs 99.00 GBP per once, excluding VAT; there are no monthly fees, but processing fees remain. POS is therefore less compelling for businesses that already have hardware they want to keep using.

Zeller Expense Cards cost 5.00 GBP per month ( £5/card per month (ex VAT)); the first card is free, and additional cards incur a monthly card fee. There is no software fee. This suits teams that need multiple expense cards, but the per-card charge makes the number of cards a recurring cost to manage.

In-person Visa and Mastercard payments are priced at 1.3%, and other cards at 1.99%. Free invoicing and payment links do not remove transaction costs when customers pay. Zeller's free pricing is strongest for avoiding subscriptions, not for eliminating payment expenses.

Platforms

Zeller is available on Android, iOS and the web. Tap to Pay is supported, but offline payments are not. Businesses that need to take payments without connectivity should look elsewhere; payouts are next-day.

Who it's for

Zeller Business Accounts are described as suitable for sole traders, limited companies, general partnerships, LLPs and trusts. The combination of free accounts, invoicing and POS can suit small businesses that want payment and account tools together, especially those comfortable buying the required terminal for POS. Restaurants needing table mapping, tabs or kitchen display today, and businesses prioritising FSCS-covered accounts, are poorer fits.
