Overview

MobyMax is a K–8 learning platform that connects student assessment with adaptive lessons and teacher progress tools. It is a strong fit for schools seeking broad curriculum coverage and for families who want structured K–8 practice. Its range is useful, but the free version is limited and school rostering through Clever comes with enrollment requirements.

Key features

Assessment and adaptive instruction

MobyMax says its curriculum spans 115 modules from kindergarten through eighth grade. Skill Checker, Placement Tests, and state-standards-based Benchmarker tests help identify where students need support; the platform then assigns lessons based on diagnostic results and progress. That can make follow-up practice more targeted than assigning the same work to every student, though educators still need to interpret results and guide instruction.

Progress and live lessons

Teachers can monitor progress in real time and examine standards data by student, class, school, or district. Interactive Class tools support live lessons using MobyMax’s curriculum. These features make the platform relevant beyond individual practice, especially for schools coordinating instruction; district-level analysis will be less important to a family using it at home.

Rostering, access, and privacy

Schools can roster automatically through Clever or ClassLink, use Google Classroom credentials to sign in, or import a CSV. Clever is not a universal option: a school or district needs a schoolwide or districtwide license, or licenses for at least 100 students, and continued sync requires at least 11 active students per school. That makes the integration less suitable for small groups that do not meet those thresholds.

MobyMax says it complies with COPPA and FERPA, does not collect students’ home addresses, Social Security numbers, or birth dates, and uses security measures including encryption. It also hosts free live training webinars several times a week. The service requires an internet-connected device and does not offer offline access, so it is a poor fit where students need to work without a connection.

Pricing

MobyMax uses a freemium model, with a 30-day trial and several purchase routes. The free educator version and teacher free version both cost 0.00 USD per free; the former has limited access compared with licensed features, while the latter is described as having no obligation. These options suit evaluation or limited use, but the free version does not provide the full licensed feature set.

The Family plan costs 7.99 USD per month, billed monthly, and covers K–8 subjects. It is the clearest fit for a household seeking subject coverage without a school license. For school use, the MAX Schoolwide License costs 4795.00 USD per year for unlimited teachers and students for one year; the MobyMax Schoolwide License has the same 4795.00 USD per year price for unlimited teachers and students at one school. Those fixed-price options suit a school seeking broad access rather than a small class subscription.

The MAX Districtwide License has custom pricing and includes unlimited teachers and students. The MobyMax Districtwide License also has custom pricing, covers all schools in a district with unlimited teachers and students, and offers savings of up to 20% off schoolwide pricing. Districts should compare the quote with their school-by-school needs; the free and family plans do not offer equivalent systemwide coverage.

Platforms

MobyMax is available on Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows. Its remote-learning guidance says it works on any device with a browser and internet connection and requires no additional hardware or operating system. Offline access is not available, so students need connectivity to use it.

Who it's for

MobyMax suits K–8 teachers and schools that want assessments, adaptive lesson assignment, standards-aligned progress monitoring, and live teaching tools in one platform. Its district and school reporting also serves administrators overseeing progress across groups. Families and homeschool users can use the Family plan, while readers looking for an offline tool or a full-featured free plan should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros

Assessment connects to instruction: diagnostic results and progress inform automatically assigned lessons, helping teachers target practice.
Broad oversight: real-time monitoring and standards data span individual students through districts, useful for both classroom and administrative review.
Multiple roster paths: ClassLink, Google Classroom sign-in, and CSV import complement Clever for schools that do not meet Clever’s license or enrollment conditions.
Wide device reach: browser access across common desktop and mobile platforms avoids a special hardware requirement.

Cons

Free access is limited: the free educator version does not include the same access as licensed features.
Clever has thresholds: license eligibility and a minimum of 11 active students per school for continued sync can exclude smaller deployments.
No offline access: students cannot rely on MobyMax when an internet connection is unavailable.
District pricing requires a quote: districts cannot compare the two district licenses against a published fixed price.

Alternatives

For a math-focused game with a free option and paid monthly or annual plans, consider Boddle. Polymath is another free math option, with its core game supporting classroom use and adaptive practice. Choose Brilliant if a daily limit of two lessons or practice sets on its free plan fits better than a K–8 curriculum platform.

Monster Math offers a free plan and a free trial, with a 59.99 USD per year Premium plan for unlimited access, all features and content, and an ad-free experience. Mathigon is a free alternative. For other school-oriented choices, compare ST Math, which has a free plan, or Mathspace, which also has a free plan. Prodigy Math is another freemium option, with a 58.95 USD per year Core plan that includes math membership, Math Facts and Arcadia, and parent progress tracking and goals.

Verdict

MobyMax is best for K–8 schools and educators who want assessment, adaptive instruction, and progress monitoring across a broad curriculum. Its strongest reason to choose it is the link between diagnostics and assigned lessons, backed by reporting at classroom and district scale. Look elsewhere if offline use is essential, a limited free plan is not enough, or Clever’s enrollment rules make rostering impractical.
