Overview

Shiksha is a higher-education search service for students weighing colleges, courses and exams in India and abroad. It is best suited to applicants who want to compare options and build a shortlist alongside exam research. Its broad mix of discovery tools is useful, but students should consider its contact-sharing practices before signaling interest in a college.

Shiksha combines college profiles with student reviews, exam resources and planning tools. It says its information is gathered from official college, exam-body and ranking-body websites, and that it is not affiliated with or endorsed by a government organization.

The service belongs to Info Edge (India) Ltd., launched in 2008 and is headquartered in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. Shiksha describes more than 60,000 institutions and 375,000 courses on its site, while its website-and-app catalog figures are 50,000+ institutions, 400,000+ courses and 800+ exams. Those catalog figures differ, but both point to a wide-ranging directory.

Key features

College and course discovery

Search results lead to profiles covering admission criteria, eligibility, fees, placements, rankings, reviews, scholarships and accepted exams. That range helps applicants compare practical considerations in one place, though it should support—not replace—checking current requirements with the institution.

Comparisons, shortlists and predictions

Side-by-side college and course comparisons, MyShortlist and student reviews help narrow a large set of options. College and rank predictors use exam scores and historical cutoff trends to estimate possible outcomes. Treat those estimates as a way to explore likely options, not as admission guarantees. Shiksha Assistant adds counselling recommendations based on exam scores, budget, location, profile and preferences.

Exam and alumni resources

The app provides question papers, syllabi and important dates for 600+ exams. These resources can keep exam planning alongside college research, while Alumni Employment Statistics adds salary data powered by Naukri.com for another point of reference.

Privacy and support

Shiksha says it uses physical, electronic and procedural safeguards and seeks compliance with India's Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules. Its privacy policy says it may share contact information with colleges or educational institutions when a user expresses interest or is shortlisted as a potential admission candidate. The Android app listing also says the app may share app activity and collect location; it says data is encrypted in transit and users can request deletion. Shiksha's policy allows users to contact the company about access, correction, erasure, restricted processing, portability or withdrawing consent.

The platform uses YouTube API services, and its privacy policy says it may track video play, pause and mute actions. Shiksha's contact page says its experts aim to answer questions within 24 hours; Android app support is available at appfeedback@shiksha.com.

Pricing

Shiksha is freemium, with a free plan. The Shiksha plan costs 0.00 USD per free. That makes it a no-cost starting point for search, comparison and exam research; no paid plans or feature limits are stated, so there is no basis to weigh a paid upgrade or specific free-plan caps.

Platforms

Shiksha is available on web, Android and iOS. Its mobile app brings college and course search, comparisons, student reviews, exam information, alerts and personalized recommendations to phone users.

Who it's for

Shiksha fits students researching higher education in India or abroad, especially those who want to combine program search, admission requirements, financial-aid information and college comparisons with exam planning. Its predictors and counselling recommendations can help applicants shape a shortlist around scores, budget and location. It is a weaker fit for anyone unwilling to share contact details with institutions as part of expressing interest.

Pros and cons

Pro: College profiles combine fees, admissions, placements, scholarships and other comparison points, reducing the need to begin with scattered searches.
Pro: Exam materials, predictors, comparison tools and shortlist features support several stages of college planning in one service.
Pro: The free plan and web, Android and iOS access offer a broad starting point without an upfront price.
Con: Contact information may be shared with institutions after a user expresses interest or is shortlisted, which may deter privacy-conscious applicants.
Con: Android app disclosures include possible sharing of app activity and collection of location; users should review those practices before installing.
Con: The published catalog figures do not align exactly, so applicants should verify important program and admission details with colleges.

Verdict

Shiksha is a strong starting point for students who want college discovery, exam resources and shortlist tools together, particularly when comparing options in India or abroad. Its free access and range of planning features are the main reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if potential contact sharing with institutions or the Android app's activity and location disclosures are unacceptable to you.
