Overview

Kinetic spans production, scheduling, purchasing, supply chain, accounts payable and receivable, and general ledger, with inventory, order, and multi-entity management as part of its scope. That breadth can reduce the need to coordinate separate operational and financial systems, but it also makes Kinetic a poor fit for organizations seeking only a focused application.

Epicor was founded in 1972 and is headquartered in Austin, Texas. Kinetic's deployment is described as hybrid, with cloud and self-hosted options.

Key features

Forecasting, material requirements planning, advanced planning and scheduling, and sourcing link production needs with material and supplier decisions. These tools suit manufacturers managing the balance between demand, capacity, and supply. Production data collection and IoT-enabled MES capabilities monitor equipment, efficiency, and quality metrics, giving operations teams a way to bring shop-floor measures into their oversight.

Application Studio provides no-code and low-code configuration for interfaces and workflows. That flexibility can help organizations adapt processes without relying solely on bespoke development, though configuration still requires decisions about how the business wants work to flow.

Integration options include REST APIs that follow OData v4, EDI and B2B integrations, and partner connections using JSON and XML. REST services can connect with Excel and Power BI, which is useful for organizations that need ERP data to work with those tools. Epicor also cites multi-factor authentication, regional disaster recovery, daily backups, monitoring, audits, data masking, and encryption among its cloud security measures.

The Select cloud package includes daily backups retained for 30 days, in-region disaster recovery, monthly updates, and a historic 99.98% SLA. It also includes the Essential Support Plan.

Pricing

Epicor Kinetic uses custom pricing. Buyers choose a platform core, cloud package, concurrent user licenses, and industry bundles, so the cost depends on the selected configuration. Concurrent licenses are not tied to a device or named user, which may suit teams whose ERP access shifts across staff or workstations.

There are no published tier prices or free-plan terms to compare. Ask Epicor to price the required package and license count, and confirm what cloud services and support are included before comparing proposals.

Platforms

Kinetic supports Android, iOS, web, Windows, API, and self-hosted access. Its responsive, browser-based mobile experience is intended to provide access across devices, while the deployment choices give buyers options beyond a cloud-only setup.

Who it's for

Kinetic is best suited to manufacturers—especially discrete and make-to-order producers—that need production, planning, supply chain, and finance functions within one ERP. Its manufacturing and planning depth is a stronger reason to consider it than a need for a standalone finance or inventory tool. Businesses that do not need this connected scope may be better served by a narrower product.

Pros and cons

Pros

Manufacturing and planning in one ERP: production, scheduling, forecasting, MRP, and advanced planning and scheduling cover linked operational needs.
Shop-floor visibility: production data collection and IoT-enabled MES capabilities monitor equipment, efficiency, and quality metrics.
Flexible configuration and integration: low-code and no-code tools, OData v4 REST services, EDI, and JSON/XML partner connections support adaptation and data exchange.
Defined Select cloud commitments: the package specifies 30-day backup retention, monthly updates, in-region recovery, and a historic 99.98% SLA.

Cons

Custom pricing requires a scoped quote: buyers cannot compare a published per-user price or plan tiers before discussing configuration.
Broad scope may be excessive: organizations seeking only a narrowly defined application may not need Kinetic's combined ERP functions.
Cloud terms vary by package: the backup, update, recovery, SLA, and support commitments described for Select should not be assumed for other cloud packages.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison of ERP products, browse ERP Software; manufacturers can also compare options in Manufacturing ERP Software. If material planning is the priority, Material Requirements Planning Software is a more focused category. For supplier-focused needs, consider Supplier Management Software; for content processes, Enterprise Content Management Systems; and for configure-price-quote needs, CPQ Software.

camos CPQ 365 is a paid CPQ alternative with cloud or on-premise deployment and custom quotes based on company size, users, and desired functions; choose it when CPQ is the need rather than a manufacturing ERP. Apparound, Powertrak CPQ, and Axonom Powertrak are paid alternatives for readers comparing other CPQ products.

Salesforce Sales Cloud has a free plan and a free trial, so it is worth considering when a freemium option matters more than Kinetic's manufacturing ERP scope. Vendavo CPQ, Cincom CPQ, and Configure One are quote-based or custom-priced alternatives for readers seeking other CPQ products.

Verdict

Choose Epicor Kinetic if your manufacturing business needs production, planning, supply, and finance connected in one ERP, with shop-floor monitoring and configurable workflows. Its manufacturing breadth is the central reason to choose it; custom pricing and the potential overhead of a wide-ranging platform are reasons to look elsewhere if your needs are narrower.
