Overview

Genie AI is a legal-work platform for businesses that drafts, reviews, edits, and negotiates agreements. It suits teams that rely on review playbooks or need to compare information across a document set; the free tier offers a way in, while meaningful document-insight capacity is tied to paid plans.

Founded in 2017 and headquartered in London, GenieAI presents the product for in-house legal, procurement, sales, founders, and other business teams. Its combination of contract workflows and document analysis is more useful to organizations managing repeat agreement work than to someone seeking only a general-purpose writing assistant.

Key features

Drafting from briefs or templates: Users can describe a contract in plain English or begin from a template. The Free plan includes 500+ templates, a practical starting point for occasional drafting, though the free AI-token allowance is limited.
Playbook review and redlines: Genie reviews agreements against playbooks and can apply edits and redlines in tracked changes. Clause comparison and redline suggestions support a structured review workflow; the benefit is strongest for teams with established review standards, not users who only need basic document editing.
Document insights: The platform can extract, compare, and monitor data points across documents in a table view. That can help teams examine a collection of agreements, but the paid tiers set document ceilings: 50 documents on Pro and 250 on Business.
Files and languages: Genie supports DOCX, PDF, images, and spreadsheets, and supports 10 languages. This breadth helps accommodate varied contract materials, although the language count alone does not establish suitability for any particular legal jurisdiction.
Workflow connections: MCP connectors, an API, and native integrations with email, CRM, cloud storage, and eSign are listed. The Microsoft Word add-in works with Word on Windows, Mac, and the web, giving Word-based teams a route into the workflow.
Security posture: GenieAI says it is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022, encrypts customer data at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS 1.2 or higher, and does not use customer content to train AI models. It says documents are hosted in UK and EU AWS data centres and that it complies with UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and the Data Protection Act 2018. It does not hold a SOC 2 report, a consideration for organizations whose vendor requirements call for one.

Pricing

Genie uses a freemium model. The lower tiers limit users, AI tokens, and document insights, so the right choice depends on whether the work is occasional drafting or a recurring team workflow.

Free — 0.00 USD per free: One user, the Full AI Document Toolkit, free-plan AI tokens, and 500+ templates. It is a sensible way for an individual to try template-led work, but the token allowance is not quantified and the plan does not state a document-insight quota.
Pro — 59.00 USD per year: Billed $708/year, billed annually ($59 per month); or $75 per month, cancel any time. It includes one user, insights from 50 documents, 10x Free plan AI tokens, and unlimited document exports. This fits a solo professional who needs more AI capacity and some cross-document analysis; it remains a single-seat plan with a defined insights ceiling.
Business — 259.00 USD per year: Billed $3,108/year, billed annually ($259 per month); or $320 per month, cancel any time. It includes five users, insights from 250 documents, and 5x Pro plan tokens. The larger allowance and shared seats suit a small team, but the five-user and document caps may not suit broader deployment.
Enterprise — custom pricing: Billed annually, with unlimited users, insights from unlimited documents, unlimited AI tokens, API and MCP integrations, a dedicated Customer Success manager, and onboarding.

Platforms

Genie is available as an extension, on macOS, on the web, and on Windows. The Word add-in supports Word on Windows, Mac, and the web, which is useful for teams that keep contract work in Word rather than moving entirely into a separate editor.

Who it's for

Genie is best suited to business teams with recurring agreement work, especially in-house legal groups and procurement, sales, or founder-led teams that need playbook-based review alongside drafting. A solo user can begin on Free or Pro; teams requiring multiple seats, greater document coverage, or implementation support should look at Business or Enterprise. It is a weaker fit for buyers whose procurement rules require a SOC 2 report.

Pros and cons

Pros: Drafting and review share a workflow. Brief-based creation, templates, playbook review, and tracked redlines address several stages of contract work rather than drafting alone.
Pros: Insights compare documents at useful scale on higher tiers. Business covers insights from 250 documents, while Enterprise removes the stated document ceiling, making the offering relevant to teams analyzing agreement portfolios.
Pros: Practical integration options. API, MCP, native business-system integrations, and the Word add-in provide several ways to connect contract work to existing workflows.
Cons: Paid plans have clear seat and insight caps below Enterprise. Pro is one user and 50 documents; Business is five users and 250 documents, so growing teams may need the custom-priced tier.
Cons: The security credentials may not satisfy every buyer. ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification and stated encryption protections are positives, but GenieAI does not hold a SOC 2 report.

Alternatives

AI Contract Review Software is a category guide for comparing review-focused tools, while AI Contract Generators is the better starting point when drafting is the priority.

Legartis is worth considering for buyers who want a free plan with one seat, two NDA reviews per month, and German, English, and French support; its free review allowance is narrow compared with Genie’s broader toolkit.
Robin AI is another paid option with a free plan and free trial, available as an extension and on the web.
Definely is a paid option with a free trial for MacOS and Windows.
DocJuris may suit organizations seeking unlimited users and 25+ standard apps, agents, and enterprise integrations under an annual platform fee sized to contract volume and enabled apps.
eBrevia is a paid option available through API, self-hosted, and web deployments, with custom quotes.
Superlegal is a web-based paid option with annual plans priced at $999.00 USD per month for Essential and $1999.00 USD per month for Advanced.
LeCHECK is a paid option with a free trial and macOS, web, and Windows platforms.
LegalSifter is a web-based paid alternative without a free plan; its Consumption Basic plan costs 2750.00 USD per year and includes 50 contracts, with $55 per additional contract and unlimited seats.

Verdict

Choose Genie AI if your business needs drafting, playbook-driven review, and document comparison in one platform, particularly when Word support and integrations matter. The free plan makes it approachable for an individual, while Business adds team seats and broader insight coverage. Look elsewhere if your organization requires a SOC 2 report or needs more than five seats without moving to custom-priced Enterprise.
