Overview

TotalCloud covers AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure under a shared license, control plane, and TruRisk score. It brings cloud posture and workload protection together with entitlement management, detection and response, Kubernetes and container security, infrastructure as code, SaaS, data, and AI security. That scope can reduce the need to manage disconnected tools, but organizations focused on a single security function may find the platform broader than they need.

TruRisk ranks verified, attackable exposures using exploitability, threat intelligence, asset criticality, and runtime context. FlexScan supports agentless, agent-based, network, and pipeline scanning, giving teams several ways to discover cloud assets. Qualys says TotalCloud can assess resources, including transient and ephemeral ones, in under 10 minutes, and claims scanning accuracy up to 99.99966%. These claims make it worth considering for fast-changing environments, but buyers should judge whether its scanning methods and risk priorities fit their own operations.

Key features

Security across cloud domains: CSPM, CWPP, CIEM, CDR, Kubernetes and container security, IaC, SSPM, DSPM, and AI-SPM share the platform. This is useful for teams consolidating overlapping responsibilities; it is less compelling if only one of those areas is needed.
Remediation workflows: QFlow offers more than 300 automated playbooks and integrations with ServiceNow, Jira, SIEM, and SOAR platforms. Response actions include email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, PagerDuty, and Jira tickets, giving teams several routes to alert or route work.
SaaS and compliance: TotalCloud manages posture for Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Zoom, and Google Workspace, and includes pre-built frameworks for CIS, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, NIST, and other standards. This broadens its use beyond infrastructure workloads for organizations with SaaS and compliance obligations.
Development integrations: Supported integrations include GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jenkins, Bamboo, Azure DevOps, VSCode, Jira, and ServiceNow, connecting security workflows with development and service management tools.
Coverage: Container, serverless, and Kubernetes protection are supported. Supported host operating systems include CentOS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Ubuntu.

Qualys includes 24/7/365 telephone and online customer and technical support, free training, and certification with subscriptions. TotalCloud CNAPP has also achieved FedRAMP High authorization, a relevant credential for government cloud security and compliance requirements.

Pricing

TotalCloud is a paid product with a 30-day trial and a limited free license. The TotalCloud Free license costs 0.00 USD per free and is limited to API calls for control evaluation, so it is suited to evaluating controls rather than ongoing, full-scale protection.

The Qualys Cloud Platform subscription has custom pricing. Cost varies by Cloud Platform Apps, network addresses (IPs), web applications, and user licenses. This scope-based model may fit organizations buying across a larger Qualys environment, but it makes budgeting and comparing costs harder before a quote. The trial offers a time-limited evaluation; it does not remove the need to confirm subscription scope and cost.

Platforms

TotalCloud supports API and web access, with a hybrid deployment model. Its cloud coverage spans AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Container, serverless, and Kubernetes protection extend that coverage to several workload types.

Who it's for

TotalCloud is a strong candidate for organizations operating across multiple cloud providers that want posture, workload, identity, detection, container, SaaS, and compliance capabilities under one control plane. Teams with established Jira, ServiceNow, SIEM, or SOAR processes can also benefit from its remediation integrations and playbooks. A smaller team seeking a narrow function, or one that needs predictable published pricing, should compare focused alternatives before committing.

Pros and cons

Pro: Four-cloud coverage shares a license, control plane, and risk score, which helps multi-cloud teams work from a common view.
Pro: Multiple scanning modes and more than 300 QFlow playbooks support discovery and remediation across different workflows.
Pro: SaaS posture management, compliance frameworks, and FedRAMP High authorization extend its relevance beyond cloud infrastructure teams.
Con: The free license is restricted to API calls for control evaluation, limiting its usefulness as a continuing security option.
Con: Subscription cost depends on several Qualys platform dimensions and requires a quote, complicating budget planning.

Alternatives

For a free, self-hosted option, consider OpenCNAPP; it has a free plan, while TotalCloud offers broader multi-cloud coverage and a limited evaluation license. If you are comparing by category, browse Cloud-Native Application Protection Platforms, Cloud Workload Protection Platforms, Cloud Infrastructure Entitlement Management Software, Cloud Security Posture Management Software, Cloud Vulnerability Scanners, or Cloud Security Platforms.

Palo Alto Networks Cortex Cloud API Security, Upwind CNAPP, FortiCNAPP, Sysdig Secure, and Wiz Defend are paid alternatives. Consider AccuKnox for a freemium option with a free plan, or Cloudanix if per-monitored-asset pricing and a minimum of 100 monitored assets fit your needs; its Cloud Pro Posture plan is 3.49 USD per month, billed per monitored asset at month-end.

Verdict

Choose Qualys TotalCloud if your organization needs broad security coverage across AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI with shared risk prioritization and automated remediation. Its strongest case is consolidation across cloud and SaaS security domains; look elsewhere if you need a focused tool or clearer costs before engaging with sales.
