Overview

Crisp brings customer conversations from multiple channels into a shared workspace, with live chat, help-center content and AI tools alongside them. It is best suited to teams combining customer support with inbound sales or marketing; the trade-off is that seats, customer profiles and automated-conversation allowances rise by plan.

Its website chat widget also supports web apps and native iOS, Android and React apps, giving teams a common way to handle conversations across those touchpoints. Crisp was founded in 2015 and is headquartered in Nantes, France.

Key features

Shared conversations and chat

The collaborative inbox collects inbound conversations from different channels, while website chat, a chatbot, live-agent chat and visitor tracking cover both self-service and direct assistance. This combination can suit teams that want customer context and agent conversations in one place, rather than separate tools for each contact channel.

Help content, AI and workflows

Teams can create and manage help articles in Crisp’s help center. AI training can draw on website content, PDFs, knowledge-base articles, conversations and private snippets, while no-code workflows support internal automation and customer-facing AI agents. The breadth is useful for teams prepared to maintain both their help content and AI inputs; the free plan, however, includes no AI credits.

Integrations and API

Crisp’s integration directory covers CRM, CMS, marketing, messaging and teamwork tools, including Salesforce, HubSpot, Shopify, Slack, WhatsApp and Jira. Its REST API gives teams access to and control over data such as conversations and contacts, which matters when Crisp needs to fit into an existing software stack.

Security and hosting

Crisp says it does not sell customer data, uses encrypted backups, applies GDPR protections and limits access to customer data on a need-to-know basis. It says public network channels use TLS with forward secrecy and HTTP Strict Transport Security; messaging servers are hosted in the Netherlands and plugin servers in Germany. Replicated architecture and databases add resilience, though they are not a substitute for evaluating whether Crisp’s security practices meet a company’s own requirements.

Pricing

Crisp has a free plan and a 14-day trial of all features with no card required. Paid plans are priced per workspace per month. The main decision is how many seats, customer profiles and automated conversations a team needs, and whether included AI credits are enough.

Plan	Price and terms	Included capacity
Free	0.00 USD per free, billed Forever	2 seats, 100 customer profiles, unlimited conversations, no AI credits
Mini	45.00 USD per month, per workspace	4 seats, around 90 automated conversations, $ 5 included AI credits, 5,000 customer profiles
Essentials	95.00 USD per month, per workspace	10 seats, around 450 automated conversations, $ 25 included AI credits, 50,000 customer profiles
Plus	295.00 USD per month, per workspace	20+ seats, around 1350 automated conversations, $ 75 included AI credits, 200,000 customer profiles
Enterprise	Custom pricing	Dedicated onboarding, personalized SLA, enhanced rate limits, custom features and team training

Free is a practical starting point for a two-seat team that can operate without AI credits and stay within 100 customer profiles; unlimited conversations are a meaningful advantage, but the profile cap still limits its fit as a customer base grows. Mini adds two seats and raises the profile ceiling to 5,000, with around 90 automated conversations and $ 5 in AI credits. Essentials is a more natural fit for a ten-seat team, with larger profile and automation allowances. Plus is aimed at larger teams needing 20 or more seats and substantially higher quotas. Enterprise is for organizations needing tailored features, onboarding, training or service terms; its pricing is custom.

The plans are billed per month per workspace, so workspace count matters as well as team size. Crisp describes its pricing as flat, but the stated conversation and AI-credit allowances still make plan capacity important for teams relying heavily on automation.

Platforms

Crisp supports Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, web and API access. Its widget works on websites and web apps, as well as native iOS, Android and React apps; desktop apps are available for macOS and Windows.

Who it's for

Crisp is a strong fit for support teams that want a shared multichannel inbox, help-center publishing and configurable automation, especially when the same workspace also serves inbound sales or marketing. Small teams can start free if two seats and 100 customer profiles are sufficient. Teams that need AI from the outset, more agents, or room for a larger customer base should compare paid-plan capacity against expected use. It is less suitable for a team seeking an uncapped AI allowance or a free plan with more than two seats.

Pros and cons

Unified handling: Conversations from multiple channels go into one collaborative inbox, with live chat, a chatbot and visitor tracking alongside it.
Flexible AI inputs: Teams can train AI on website content, PDFs, help articles, conversations and private snippets.
Useful free entry point: Two seats and unlimited conversations allow a small team to handle conversations without a subscription, though profiles cap at 100 and AI credits are absent.
Capacity steps matter: Seat, profile and automated-conversation allowances vary by plan, so growing teams may need to move up even if their basic inbox needs remain unchanged.
AI is quota-bound: Paid plans include finite AI credits and approximate automated-conversation allowances, which teams with heavy automation needs should weigh before choosing a tier.

Alternatives

For a platform focused on SMS chatbot use cases, compare the SMS Chatbot Software category; for customer conversations centered on live chat, see Live chat software. Teams evaluating social-channel support can also browse Social Media Customer Service Software.

Sinch Engage is worth considering when SMS volumes and a small number of users are the priority: its Basics plan includes 3,000 SMS per month, one user and three automation workflows, while Conversations includes 10,000 SMS per month and two users. Both plans have custom pricing, and Sinch Engage has no free plan.

ConvoCore may suit a team looking for a lower-cost API-and-web option centered on model credits: its free plan includes 500 monthly credits, estimated at about 182 messages, and its Starter plan is 29.00 USD per month. Crisp is the more complete fit for teams needing shared multichannel support, live agents and a help center.

AthenaText is another freemium API-and-web option. Its free tier has no credits, AI replies or voice calls; teams considering paid use can compare it with Core at 49.00 USD per month. Crisp, by contrast, combines chat operations and help-center tools with its AI features.

Gupshup is an option to compare for messaging-fee pricing: its messaging fee is 0.00 USD per month, with a standard 0.001 USD fee per message and WhatsApp fees billed at actuals. Crisp is the better match when a team wants a shared support inbox and help content rather than a messaging-fee model.

TextGlobal SMS Chatbot offers a cloud contact center with real-time chat across multiple channels and an AI chatbot, with custom post-paid pricing. Consider it when those SMS chatbot and contact-center capabilities are the central requirement.

Smobi uses a standard platform fee plus per-message usage, with RCS messages billed per use. It is an alternative to consider when that usage-based RCS model is a better fit.

Jack The Butler is free and open source, with no per-message or per-room fees; hosting and AI API usage may cost extra. It is worth comparing for teams seeking a self-hosted, open-source option rather than Crisp’s managed support workspace.

Sarufi is another freemium option, with a Developer plan that includes 1,000 messages per month.

Verdict

Crisp is a good choice for teams that want one collaborative home for multichannel conversations, self-service help content and customer-facing automation. Its free plan makes a low-risk start possible for two agents, while paid tiers scale seats and customer capacity. Look elsewhere if your team needs a larger free seat allowance or predictable, high-volume AI use without plan-based quotas.
