Overview

Founded in 2015, CodeSignal spans pre-hire assessments, AI-led and live interviews, learning, and skills intelligence. Its assessments simulate work tasks and job requirements; AI Interviewer agents adapt their questions and return structured evaluations. Live Tech Interviews add a collaborative coding environment where candidates can communicate with interviewers. Together, those tools cover more of the hiring process than a stand-alone assessment product, but that breadth may be unnecessary for a team with a single screening need.

Organizations can use skills validation, analytics, and benchmarking to find strengths and gaps. Assessment options include skills, cognitive, behavioral, and job-fit measures, with custom assessments, proctoring, API access, and advanced reporting. The integrations directory includes Greenhouse, Ashby, Workday, Absorb LMS, Docebo, Okta, and Slack, giving teams several routes to connect assessment and learning workflows with other systems.

Key features

For individuals, that makes CodeSignal more than a hiring platform: the free Individuals plan includes tutor Cosmo, personalized skills paths, practice-based learning, bite-sized modules, and a skills profile. Cosmo+ costs 24.99 USD per month and keeps the tutor, paths, and practice-based learning; its stated inclusions omit the free plan's modules and skills profile, so learners should weigh that narrower feature set before upgrading.

For employers, Build includes AI proctoring and ID verification, while Pro adds advanced fraud prevention and role-based access controls. Pro also lists SSO, SCIM, JIT, audit logs, data-retention controls, and custom security review, DPA, and MSA. These are meaningful provisions for organizations with stricter access and security requirements, but they sit behind custom pricing. CodeSignal says its platform is hosted on AWS and undergoes an annual independent SOC 2 examination.

Support also varies by plan: Build and Grow include weekday 9–5 PT email support, while Pro includes 24/7/365 email support. That difference matters for teams that need help outside business hours.

Pricing

CodeSignal uses a freemium model. Individuals can start free; Cosmo+ is 24.99 USD per month. For organizations, the posted Build and Grow prices are billed monthly, while the company gives a lower annual starting price of $79/mo (annual). The difference between that starting figure and Build's monthly price makes billing term worth checking when comparing budgets.

Individuals — 0.00 USD per free: Cosmo, personalized skills paths, practice-based learning, bite-sized modules, and a skills profile. A useful no-cost option for learners who want guided practice without an organizational hiring workflow.
Cosmo+ — 24.99 USD per month: Includes Cosmo, personalized paths, and practice-based learning. It suits individuals looking to upgrade, though the stated inclusions do not carry over the free plan's modules or skills profile.
Build — 99.00 USD per month, billed monthly: Five monthly credits, Universal and Core Tech Assessments, access to 2,000 questions, AI proctoring, and ID verification. Its credit allowance suits limited assessment volume; teams should account for the five-credit monthly cap.
Grow — 599.00 USD per month, billed monthly: 35 monthly credits, Go-To-Market Assessments, Sales, CS, and Marketing AI Interviewers, and basic ATS integrations. It is aimed at broader nontechnical hiring needs and higher monthly assessment volume than Build, with weekday business-hours email support.
Pro — custom pricing: Custom credits, all assessments and AI Interviewers, advanced fraud prevention and RBAC, enterprise ATS integrations, a dedicated CSM, and QBRs. Its tailored credits and additional controls fit organizations with enterprise requirements, but buyers must request pricing and should evaluate the plan against their expected usage.

Build also offers 60 annual credits when billed annually, compared with five monthly credits on its monthly billing option. Teams should match that annual allowance to their expected cadence rather than assume monthly credits roll over.

Platforms

CodeSignal supports Android, iOS, web, and API access. That mix supports mobile practice as well as organizational integrations and programmatic connections.

Who it's for

CodeSignal fits organizations hiring, assessing, and developing skills, especially those that want assessments, interviews, and learning in one platform. Individuals can use the free practice tools, while employers with modest needs can begin on Build. Teams requiring higher volume, go-to-market interviewers, or enterprise controls should compare Grow and Pro against their credit needs and support requirements. It is less compelling when all a buyer wants is a small, occasional coding screen.

Pros and cons

Pro: Assessments, AI and live interviews, and skills development sit in one platform, covering more of the employee skills lifecycle than a single-purpose screening tool.
Pro: Free individual practice includes Cosmo, personalized paths, bite-sized modules, and a skills profile, giving learners a meaningful way to start without a subscription.
Pro: Assessment coverage spans skills, cognitive, behavioral, and job-fit evaluation, with proctoring, custom assessments, benchmarking, and advanced reporting.
Con: Build's five monthly credits limit assessment volume; larger annual use or broader hiring needs call for careful plan selection.
Con: Pro's price is custom, making costs harder to compare upfront, despite its stronger security, integration, and support package.
Con: Support is limited to weekday 9–5 PT email on Build and Grow, which may not suit teams needing help at other times.

Verdict

CodeSignal is a strong fit for organizations that want hiring assessments, interviews, and skills development together, with individual practice available for free. Its breadth and assessment options are the main reasons to choose it; credit caps on lower organizational tiers and custom Pro pricing are reasons to look elsewhere if usage is small or costs need to be predictable upfront.
