Overview

Organizations can recruit through website widgets, a hosted volunteer hub, social media integrations, and email invitations, then manage volunteer profiles, programs, groups, admins, cohosts, and documents. Volunteers can register for shifts and groups, including youth and guest registrations and ongoing opportunities. POINT was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in Powell, Ohio; it runs on Android, iOS, and the web.

The pricing FAQ limits availability to nonprofits in the U.S. and Ukraine and defines nonprofit accounts as charitable community 501(c)(3) organizations. That makes eligibility an early consideration for other organizations.

Key features

Recruitment and volunteer intake

Website widgets, a hosted hub, social integrations, and email invitations give organizations several ways to bring volunteers into their pipeline. Custom applications, waivers, background checks, progress tracking, and admin approvals support more formal onboarding, but application management and waiver management are Pro features. Smaller groups that only need signups may be well served by Free; organizations screening applicants or collecting waivers should budget for an upgrade.

POINT says Checkr performs background checks and that POINT receives only the check status, not reports or their contents. It also says it uses administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect personal information and does not sell volunteers’ personal information. These are relevant assurances for organizations handling volunteer data, though they do not replace a review of an organization’s own privacy requirements.

Scheduling, tracking, and communication

Shift and group registration covers basic event coordination, while recurring opportunities are reserved for Pro. Hours can be logged automatically, manually, or through self-check-in kiosks; the kiosk option, custom reports, and custom exports support more formal attendance and impact tracking, but kiosks and custom reports are Pro features. Free includes time tracking and reporting, so organizations with simpler reporting needs can avoid a paid subscription.

SMS and email, automated confirmations and reminders, push notifications, and calendar integrations help coordinators keep volunteers informed across the signup cycle. SMS add-on bundles are included with Pro, rather than presented as a base-plan inclusion. Integrations include Kindful, Okta, Checkr, PayPal, Venmo, Givebutter, Donorbox, DonorPerfect, Donately, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn.

Pricing

POINT has a free plan, paid subscriptions, and a 14-day trial. The free plan has no volunteer or admin cap, a meaningful advantage for organizations that need scheduling and tracking without a per-person ceiling. Its tradeoff is feature depth: application and program management, kiosks, waivers, and custom reports are not included.

Plan	Price	What it adds or includes
Free	0.00 USD per free	Unlimited volunteers and admins; signups and scheduling; event, contact, and group management; messaging and reminders; time tracking and reporting; website widgets and integrations; volunteer portal and mobile app.
Pro (annual)	99.00 USD per month, billed billed annual	Everything in Free, plus application and program management, check-in kiosks and QR codes, recurring opportunities, waivers, document storage, custom reports, background check integration, and SMS add-on bundles.
Pro (monthly)	140.00 USD per month, billed Monthly	Same Pro features, with monthly billing.
Teams (annual)	199.00 USD per month, billed billed annual	Everything in Pro, plus role-based access controls, admin task management, program segmentation, and branded communication.
Teams (monthly)	299.00 USD per month, billed Monthly	Same Teams features, with monthly billing.
Network	Custom pricing	Multi-organization oversight, cross-organization impact tracking, centralized reporting, network-wide admin communication, and an aggregated opportunity feed.

Pro is the practical step up for organizations that need formal applications, recurring shifts, waivers, kiosks, or tailored reports. Teams makes more sense when multiple admins need role-based permissions, task coordination, or segmented programs; organizations that do not need those controls can avoid the premium. The annual prices are lower than monthly billing, but require an annual billing commitment. Network is aimed at organizations coordinating across multiple entities.

Free includes 20-minute onboarding, office hours and webinars, and chat support. Pro adds one-hour onboarding and priority chat; Teams adds multi-session onboarding, team training, and priority support. Those support differences may matter to organizations rolling out new workflows across a staff team.

Platforms

POINT is available on Android, iOS, and the web, and its Free plan includes a volunteer portal and mobile app. This combination supports volunteer access on phones as well as administrative work on the web.

Who it's for

POINT is a strong fit for eligible nonprofits that want one system for recruiting volunteers, scheduling shifts, messaging participants, and tracking hours. The unlimited volunteer and admin capacity on Free makes it a sensible starting point for groups with basic coordination needs. Organizations that need application and waiver workflows, recurring opportunities, check-in kiosks, or custom reporting should expect to pay for Pro; teams requiring differentiated admin access and branded communication should consider Teams.

It is not a fit for organizations outside the stated nonprofit eligibility or those seeking those Pro workflows at no cost. Confirm the eligibility definition and whether Free’s feature boundaries match your program before committing to the platform.

Pros and cons

Pros: Free supports unlimited volunteers and admins, plus scheduling, communications, hour tracking, a portal, and a mobile app, making it viable beyond a tiny pilot.
Pros: Recruitment channels and multiple hour-entry methods cover much of the volunteer cycle, from discovery and signup to attendance records.
Pros: Pro and Teams add a clear progression from formal intake and custom reporting to multi-admin controls and program segmentation.
Cons: Applications, waivers, kiosks, and custom reports are paid features, so organizations with formal intake or richer reporting needs cannot stay on Free.
Cons: Annual Pro and Teams prices are lower than their monthly counterparts but commit the organization to annual billing.
Cons: Eligibility is limited to the stated charitable community 501(c)(3) nonprofit accounts in the U.S. and Ukraine.

Alternatives

SignUp.com is worth considering when a group wants a free basic plan centered on one organizer, one custom participant question, and one group page, rather than POINT’s broader volunteer-management feature set.

VolunteerMark is another freemium option; consider it if its free allowance of up to 50 volunteers and one administrator suits a smaller operation better than POINT’s unlimited free seats.

Vome is another freemium alternative, with a free Recruit plan that includes one application form, one onboarding sequence, 35 default database fields, and unlimited volunteers and admin seats.

JoinToServe offers free scheduling, attendance tracking, and payroll reporting for nonprofits without seat limits, for organizations focused on those workflows.

Better Impact Volunteer Impact is an alternative with Foundation and Growth plans.

Get Connected by Galaxy Digital is a freemium alternative with custom pricing not based on volunteer count.

Civic Champs may suit organizations seeking a paid option priced by active-volunteer band; its 1–49-volunteer plan is 49.00 USD per month, billed annually, plus a one-time setup fee.

VolunteerLocal is another paid alternative with a single-event plan priced per event.

Verdict

POINT is a strong choice for eligible nonprofits that want a genuinely useful free foundation for volunteer signups, scheduling, communications, and hour tracking, with room to add structured intake and program controls. Its main drawback is the paywall around applications, waivers, kiosks, and custom reports; organizations that need those capabilities should compare the Pro cost against their budget before adopting it.
