Overview

Upload a JPG or PNG up to 8MB, choose a style, inspect a protected preview, then unlock the full-resolution result. Seeing a preview before paying is useful, but one protected web preview offers little room to compare different photos or styles. Cartoonie supports photo conversion only, not text-to-cartoon generation.

The service says its selection includes more than 34 cartoon styles, with additions made regularly. That breadth gives users options for a single image and may provide fresh choices over time, though the product remains focused on transforming photos rather than broader image creation.

Key features

Photo processing and privacy

Cartoonie uses OpenAI to process requests. It sends the chosen photo, style instructions, and technical request information to the provider, but says it does not send the user's name, email, payment details, device identifier, or account credentials with them. Cartoonie says it deletes uploaded originals from its servers immediately after generation and does not keep a library of user photos. It also says it does not store facial-recognition data or biometric information extracted from photos, or create biometric identifiers or facial-recognition templates.

Those protections address what Cartoonie retains and transmits, but the selected image still goes to a third-party processor. Users should consider that trade-off before uploading a sensitive photo.

Mobile creation and use limits

The iPhone and iPad app supports creating cartoons from selfies, group photos, and pets, then saving and sharing them. On desktop or Android, the web flow provides one protected preview. Normal personal use is capped at 20 cartoons per account per calendar day; excessive use may lead to cooldowns, delays, lower-cost processing, or temporary suspension. That ceiling is generous for occasional use, but the service is not an unrestricted production pipeline.

Cartoonie's terms restrict use of the service itself to personal, non-commercial purposes. They allow unlocked cartoons to be used in personal or commercial projects, subject to the terms and applicable law. That distinction matters: a buyer can use an unlocked result commercially, but should not treat the service as a commercial-generation subscription.

Pricing

The free Web preview costs 0.00 USD per free and includes one protected preview. Full-resolution unlocking and additional creations require a 10-credit pack, so the free option is for judging the direction of one result, not keeping a finished image.

One-time in-app purchase packs are available: the 3 Cartoon Pack is 1.99 USD per once, the 5 Cartoon Pack is 1.99 USD per once, the Welcome Pack is 3.99 USD per once, the 10 Cartoon pack is 4.99 USD per once, the 25 Cartoon pack is 8.99 USD per once, and the 50 Cartoon Pack is 12.99 USD per once. These suit buyers who want a finite supply rather than ongoing access. The 5-pack costs the same as the 3-pack, making it the stronger choice between those two listed options.

Cartoonie Premium Yearly costs 49.99 USD per year and includes unlimited generations for normal personal use, subject to the 20-cartoon daily cap. It fits frequent personal users who want ongoing access; the packs are a clearer fit for occasional projects. All paid plans remain subject to the personal-use service restriction and its usage rules.

Cartoonie provides purchase support by email; buyers should include their checkout email and relevant payment receipt when asking for help.

Platforms

Cartoonie lists Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows support. Its detailed creation flow describes web use on desktop or Android and an iPhone and iPad app. The mobile app listing also describes saving and sharing completed cartoons.

Who it's for

Cartoonie is a good fit for someone who wants to turn a portrait, pet image, or group photo into a cartoon and is comfortable paying to unlock the finished image. The range of styles and preview step help with that focused task. It is a weaker fit for prompt-based image makers, heavy commercial workflows, or anyone who needs more than one free preview before deciding.

Pros and cons

Pros: More than 34 styles and support for people, pets, and groups give photo-based projects useful variety.
Pros: A protected preview comes before the full-resolution purchase, letting buyers judge a result's direction first.
Pros: Cartoonie says it deletes uploaded originals immediately and does not retain a photo library or biometric identifiers.
Cons: The free web allowance is only one protected preview; a finished full-resolution image requires payment.
Cons: It does not create images from text, limiting its use to people who already have a photo to transform.
Cons: The service is restricted to personal, non-commercial use, despite permission to use unlocked cartoons in commercial projects.

Alternatives

AI Cartoon Generators is the broader category to browse when you want to compare options beyond Cartoonie's photo-first approach.

Pixelcut is a better fit when background removal or image upscaling matters alongside its limited free tools.
Cartoonize suits readers who want essential effects without registration or prefer its 6.99 USD per year annual Pro plan.
GenToon is an option for users who prefer monthly credit plans, including a free allowance of 150 credits per month.
myComics.ai is more appropriate when the goal is a printed comic book, with a free tier of 30 credits and three art styles.
Pict.AI is worth considering for users who want free web access capped at two uses per tool per IP address, with further use directed to its mobile app.
Voilà AI Artist may suit users seeking an app with a free trial and an optional monthly Pro subscription.
Comics AI is the more relevant choice for comic creation, offering a free tier with a full canvas editor, speech bubbles, and PDF export.
ImageToCartoon is an alternative for users who want a public converter with no account, subscription, credits, or payment required.

Verdict

Cartoonie is best for personal users who want a stylized version of an existing portrait, pet photo, or group shot and value a preview before unlocking the full-resolution result. Its style range and clear photo workflow are the main reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if you need text-generated art, multiple free previews, or a service designed for commercial generation.
